This was the best day in boot camp. There was one recruit who was deathly afraid of heights. He had a hard time going over the side. The DI belayed him half way down to get him to conquer his fear. When I went thru MCRD San Diego, they had a tower with a wooden side. The DI stopped him mid way down and knocked him against the wall a few times using the rope, talking shit the whole time. I felt bad for the guy, but he got thru it and graduated with our class. That also motivated the rest of us to not show any fear of heights! Damn if that DI was going to do that to me! haha Good times
As my dad ( a former marine ) told me when i told him i wanted to be a marine his words " many are born, few are made" the few the proud. I hope i can have the honor of being called a marine real soon.
dude, when I was in bootcamp and they demonstrated the drill instructor losing control on the wall he almost hit the ground before the di on the ground stopped him.
The drill instructors knew I was the most uncoordinated recruit so they intentionally stuck me on barracks guard duty. I missed this whole training evolution. They did the same for me for the obstacle courses and all rope climbs.
@@CJ-em4ds absolutely true. I lived it. 1999. Do you think Marines are all super warriors or something? There are recruit Mexicans who barely speak English who don't really care about the United States. They were from Texas.
You sound like the type of Marine who'll get all the meritorious promotions. At least, that's the way it was, when I was enlisted. The ones who couldn't do well on the PFT, couldn't do much else exceptional, except kiss butt, they seemed to always get out of doing the things that the rest had to do. So, how do you think this prepared you for REAL active duty? When you're in rough circumstances, and, your fellow Marines have to depend on you?
I was army and loved rappel training. The first step scared me silly but after that it was awesome. I remember tying our seats and being told if they’re not tight enough you’ll regret it later and I saw a few who did. Lol
This is probably gonna be the hardest thing I will have to do in boot camp (Yes I am joining the marines at this very moment). Mainly because I may have a fear of heights.
The demonstration of pride is excellently achieved in this documentation. Strong, fearless, respectful, and full of valor. In Jesus' name you're healed. Ask the Holy Spirit into your heart and walk a new with a Divine, loving Father.
I remember when I first did this in recruit training. I was so nervous, once I went over the edge, EVERY muscle in my body cramped up. I was walling like Frankinstine once on the ground. 1983 PLT 3038!! Semper Fi.
l enlisted at age 17 during the draft Nov 1972 MCRD San Diego PLT 2150 2149 Series i"ll never for get we arrived at 22hrd hours the receiving SGT's jumped on the Greyhound Bus it was a double decker and just started kicking us off the bus and those who when in during my time know what I"am talking about God Bliss Uncle Sam"s Marines Semper Fidelis!!
I'm 15...a freshman I am #11 on the list to go at first I was scared to go but I watch these videos for JCLC now I really want to go I'm excited I go June 10
@ALVIN MUSAI one Marine ran out of rope as the big ass ship descended fast but the helo kept its hovering steady, but he went into combat with a broken leg and in a cast...
I remember I felt ripped off because only a few platoons had the opportunity to do this while the rest of us went around cleaning up around the fucking depot
right on man, just keep pushing yourself. stay away from drugs, dont get any tattoos unless you know the marine corps order. work out, and the only thing the drill instructors care about is you giving it everything you have, good luck man, its a long road but well worth it
With that mindset, you won't. Everything is scary until you've done it. It would be fine if you said you had doubts if you could do it. But saying "never"? You just undermined your potential entirely. Think higher of yourself.
What is this weak shyt? They could damn near jump down from that one-story distance! When did they stop rappeling from up higher? When I went throughMCRD San Diego, there weren't stairs up the tower...you climbed a rope netting-type contraption up, and then, you rappelled down. We did have one guy who didn't follow instructions, and, things didn't end well for him...kinda went splat. Teaches you to pay attention, it's NOT a game!
Lol, I remember this. I didn't have the balls to go over, so the instructor just pushed me off the ledge -_-".
What happened after he pushed you? Lol
Tony Montana I got on the ground, safetly. Then they told me to go back up for round 2.
he died
+ATUSMC

Fear isn't real my friend.
I'm lookin forward to it. I ship out for San Diego in 2 weeks. The thing I'm not looking forward to AT ALL is the gas chamber.
Jonathan Richwine Ahahha! Well my friend, you'll be surprised at how much snot your nose will produce, in your whole life...
Ummm maybe you can just try indoor rock climbing, bungee jumping or maybe sky diving
Not worse than the gas chamber
I can't wait to leave for boot camp but this is going to be a challenge for me
One of the fun things in my 3 month boot camp experience.

Cesar Cisneros who?
@@briangeary5738 so he speaks your language since you know.

@1:16, recruit, top right, wearing his kevlar backwards.
Theres always one
The age limit for enlisting in the marines is 27 my dad is a staff sergeant in the usmc
I can't fucking wait 5 more weeks in sophomore year then just two more years of waiting and I will enlist
Do it?
DI at the beginning reminds my of an older Alex from Major Payne
I remember when I first did this in recruit training. I was so nervous, once I went over the edge, EVERY muscle in my body cramped up. I was walling like Frankinstine once on the ground. 1983 PLT 3038!! Semper Fi.
All females are trained at Parris Island. Only men at MCRD San Diego.
I like how it just ends with someone screwing up and we don't get to see what happens
I miss those days.
I'm joining the marines when I get out of high school
Ummmm think twice
Paul Hodgson if he wants to join he can join

I saw an instructor fall from the M in 2008. Plt 2109 Echo
It didn't matter if you were scared or not. The DIs pushed recruits over the wall. Good times.

Helicopter fast roping onto navy ship during a storm blasting in the Indian ocean...
@ALVIN MUSAI one Marine ran out of rope as the big ass ship descended fast but the helo kept its hovering steady, but he went into combat with a broken leg and in a cast...
Near end of video, hitches at rear of Swiss Seat are incorrect.
Drill's voice is toast hard to understand. ?.. But it works
Last thing you see is the right side knot coming from crotch down Under then meets waist and is tired wrong
I just noticed that too.
and the rappel was down the side the fast rope was higher than that...or at least thats how i remember it.
Do you remember how night the tower was? I remember it being 72 feet?
@@roxywyndham 60 ft if i remember correctly
I remember I felt ripped off because only a few platoons had the opportunity to do this while the rest of us went around cleaning up around the fucking depot
Did ther rebuild the tower i remember the fast rope going down in the middle of the tower but that was back in 97
No, the limit too join the Marines is you can not be at the age of 29 upon graduating from Marine Corp bootcamp @julian Rivera
Wow I'm glad I didn't have to learn to rappel and fast rope like this...
Marine Corps creation, as well as help insertion, attacks, submarine insertion, oooorah
Julian Rivera you can join at any age until you hit 42
lol, not one of them is doing it the way the instructor showed during the fastrope exercise.
Cool they get to fastrope though.
took me a second to relize why they were wearing web belts
Do you have to rappel at boot camp?
+Johann Schmitt its called a rappel tower for a reason...
I don't get the joke.
its not supposed to be a joke. Why would you not rappel down a tower called a rappel tower.
I'm just afraid of heights.
Yes
how far into boot camp is this? also is this san diego or parris island?
this is week 10 and it is san diego, I remember doing the same thing when I was a recruit
Cullen McNeil Hopefully in about 2.2 years I should be out of HS and if all goes well I will be doing this at Diego.
right on man, just keep pushing yourself. stay away from drugs, dont get any tattoos unless you know the marine corps order. work out, and the only thing the drill instructors care about is you giving it everything you have, good luck man, its a long road but well worth it
Cullen McNeil A lot of yelling and screaming... but heck that's the marines :)
its not as bad as it looks
I can never do that rope rappelling on first try. Looks too scary
With that mindset, you won't. Everything is scary until you've done it. It would be fine if you said you had doubts if you could do it. But saying "never"? You just undermined your potential entirely. Think higher of yourself.
I'm 15 and I would soooo do this

this isn't rappelling, it's fast roping
Definitely not the way they trained years ago. This is baby shit compared to repelling in the 80’s.........:
hope youre doing good haha
