Hello everyone and welcome back to Age of Wonders 4! Today, the Supreme Necromancer learns the hard way that even the Undead must care for their economy. All was going swell for our uncharacteristically diplomatic Lord of the Dead with a new friend at 11:35, recruiting a new meatshiel- I mean Hero at 16:48, helping out said Hero at 27:27, and even ascending to the third tier of magic at 31:15 where I resolved my previous misunderstanding about the Seeds that started at 12:30. However, my grave misreading of the situation at 52:20 has lead to a dangerous situation... for next time! Thanks for watching! (:
To be fair. they should have included such a minor detail as declaring war in the tooltip at 52:20. Yes, the text let can be interpreted as declaring war... but the tooltip didn't mention anything about it.
@@Grothgerek I agree! I definitely thought I was just insulting/heavily reprimanding them and telling *them* to muster an army to defend their now weakened city. Ah well, I'll just get to break them.
okay so I skipped a episode here just to complement the title of the video. Idk the phrase "Supreme Necromancer Faces Economic Collapse" sounds like a really funny article to read on The Onion or something and it made me chuckle. Well done! For the magic victory, which you are worried about from the AI, they have to research magic tome rank 5, they have to build 3 seeds of affinity ( each takes more resources to be built and only one can be built per city ). Once that is done, a spell must be casted which takes 15 turns. Once the spell is casted it changes the world environment. For example, Age of shadows makes the world dark. Any destruction of a seed of affinity breaks the spell, then the seed must be rebuilt and the spell recasted. When the spell is successfully casted, magic victory occurs.
I eventually resolved my misunderstanding, but thank you for the clarification! I'm wholly convinced the AI are going to pull that off sooner rather than later. I imagine the world will ignite in war at that point. XD
@@Fableheim when you start the spell, the AI throws everything they have at you focusing at one single seed. I play on normal, but imagine on brutal, even your Allies may start a war to stole the victory

A tip not relevant to this campaign, but relevant should you play any more - how to get Pantheon unlocks quickly. Create a custom realm with a single continent and no oceans. Set size to small, number of factions to 2, and distance between factions to Close. Create a Mystic culture with the Shadow Walkers trait. Build scouts every turn and set them to auto-explore. Don't do anything else - just explore with the scouts. Once you found the second player - declare a war on them and immediately surrender. The second faction now gets a Military victory, and since you are their vassal - you also get a military victory. Which gets you 500 pantheon xp and 1 pantheon point. The whole thing takes about 5-10 minutes per run, I usually find the opponent by turn 4-5.
LMAO that is 100% going to be patched out. I might do that to unlock some society traits but I'd also kind of like to earn pantheon points. Maybe 50/50. Thanks for letting me know! (:
13:30 Seeds are Tier 3. There are more improvements at tier 4 and 5 which are necessary for the magic victory. Being only tier 2 at turn 50, you are behind the 8ball. But you got a pretty challenging start.
I eventually realize my misunderstanding. My heart skipped a few beats when I thought they were already getting ready to trigger the countdown. Thanks for confirming what I feared... and the sympathy points. (:

This entire episode in a nutshell: "Well.... shit..." Jokes aside i'm curious about one thing: is it possible to get one of those mythical units into your army? Like the bone dragon, the living shadow and other stuff? Last but not least, in a scale from 0 to 10, how much would recommend this game? I gotta say that your playthrouth hás caught my interest.
You can definitely acquire Mythic units. Some Mythic units come from the final tier of research like the earlier discovered Horned God, but I *think* the others (like Dragons) come from Golden Wonders, kind of like the Blessed Soul I've recruited from the Desecrated Temple under my control. You can also discover units from clearing out infestations and stuff, so maybe if you clear a dragon infestation, you can find one? They were recruitable in Age of Wonders 3, albeit with a lot of effort, so that's what I'm basing my confidence off of. I'd give this game a 9/10 but I also absolutely loved Age of Wonders 3. If you're on the fence and not feeling the itch, I'd recommend waiting until the first DLC releases during the summer, since there are still some stability issues that should be ironed out by then. Otherwise, I think this is great foundation for a game that will get better over time and is currently as fun as your imagination can make it.

if you are doing a melee unit focused run you can go into materium to get 30% crit chance on melee units, paired with sundered blades and you can do a lot with them.
@@Fableheim remember to build a hero for support, getting precision training, endurance training, and strength training will help make them hit harder (that 30% crit becomes 40%) and more tanky allowing you to keep them around longer and even level them up to make them stronger.
The map size is dependent upon number of places and distance between them. I'm currently playing on the largest map I could with 9 total players with Far distance. There are map customizations like predominant biomes, specific enemy types, and modifications to Free Cities, but you can't go in manually and sculpt the map itself. There is a Pangea-like setting you could use to generate something like Middle Earth and some fiddling around you could do, but it would still be randomly generated. I imagine modders will find a way to manipulate map generation in time, since AOW3 has a pretty active Workshop even to this day.

Generally you want gold. Gold is required for units and buildings, and everything else. Having more production or draft will increase your gold drain because they build things requiring gold faster. Notice that getting the boosts for buildings only gives you a one-time income of gold and production when you decide to build a boosted building so having them might not be necessary, especially in the start. You also want a workable amount of mana, depending on what you like to spend it on. With a lot of units, enchantment upkeep goes way up, especially if you use summoned units. You should not build too many units, since units cost upkeep. Lower tier units tend to be more cost-effective but you need more of them. They do also sometimes have a place even in a powerful army.
