My N47 BMW has 210k miles on it and everything the engine is original, nothing has been changed apart from oil and filter.... looking at doing the serpentine belt now though cause it has cracks, and squeals periodically. But the ein ngine sounds exactly like your does, much off the noise is from the injectors I believe. They are solid engines and I think sometimes people think they should sound like a petrol engine, rather than a diesel....
My f30 had been great only changed the alternator and coolant flange on it, its at 155k miles the previous 3 series was terrible but the f30 is bulletproof, just needs to be looked after with regular oil changes,

Because diesel engines, we can't be sure if there is a problem with the engine or not by hearing some noises. Mine bmw e92 have some noises, but I still have been driving the car for over 2 years. Nothing has happened .
The engine sounded reasonably healthy before you changed the chain but I know it's always good to do preventative maintenance. I have a 2013 320d with n47 engine and got the chain change at 195 k by BMW dealer under goodwill gesture. It's now on 235k and still going strong. I really can't say a bad thing about the n47 because it has been trouble free for the 4 years I've had it. I've put more than 100k on the engine and there has been no issues.
@@zlita73 I got BMW to do a test for €60 to check the chain and they said it needed replacing. They said they would cover it under goodwill gesture as it shouldn't be giving a problem with a 2013 n47.
@@huggy15 Over your ownership, you didn't change the belts or crank pulleys? I'm asking because mine which is now at 90 000 kms always makes a small rattle sound at front of engine so I'm not sure if it's the chain or belts or pulleys
320d 2009 350k on board never changed the timing chain! Just regular maintenances! Still sound the same from when i bought it 135k till now still running strong!
I have a 120d 2012 with almost 300k on the dash. Chain has never been replaced. Engine still running like new. All maintenance done in time with original parts and Castrol 5w30 ll oil. In my experience this is a very very strong and reliable engine.
I have a 2012 320d and the timing chain broke 2 years ago. My mechanic said it had a slight rattle when servicing it 6 months before. I was lucky it broke when I was crawling in heavy traffic so just needed new chain pack, camshafts and a few other bits. Still cost over €2000 though. If you're in doubt, get it done.
@@richie5897 It had about 200,000 km on it so about 124,000 miles. After I got it fixed it drove better than before it broke. The turbo shaft was bent and the DPF was 70% blocked but my mechanic sent the turbo away to be reconditioned and he cleaned the DPF. The car drove like new after that.

Mechanic noticed turbo needed to be reconditioned, and dpf cleaned for good measure.. nearly identical to your problem only my chain didn't go thankfully
Theres a weird noise (before service) on the left side of your engine, my 320d makes that ticking/rattling sound when it's cold not when hot though. I'm on 80 000 km. Do you think maybe it's my crank pulley or timing chain?
Anyone know the engine code for 2014 325d m sport twin turbo? And reliability? As been looking on line and not much information on them as they are rare on the f30.
I am considering buying a 2017 320d with 70.000km. I heard that the models after 2015 they fixed the issue, not sure this is true. Nevertheless, after the first replacement does it stop breaking prematurely?
Bmw changed the chain position on lci. 2013 n47 have a chain in the back ( joint with gearbox ). 2017 lci have a chain in front of the engine. Where every car with chain shoud have. Bmw made a hudge fuk up putting the chain in the back.
The sound is exactly the same. The n47 engine is a very noisey diesel. They all sound that bad. At least you know you have the chain replaced so this give you pease of mind.

@@zlita73 iskreno ne znam kako bi motor i rad motora trebao da se cuje u kabini, kod mene motor dok je u P ili N modu radi skoro pa i bez zvuka, ali kad se ubaci u D ili R dok drzim kocnicu krene motor da se cuje ili opet kazem ne znam da li je to motor. Cim pustim kocnicu i auto krene voznja je bez zvuka bukvalno. Sad ne znam da li je potrebno da se menja nesto zbog tog zvuka kad se ubaci u brzinu ili je to normalno da se cuje s obzirom da je automacki menjac i on je uvek napnut da sam krene a ja ga drzim na kocnici? I koja je bila cena zamene lanca u motoru?
ja sam radio veliki servis čim sam ga kupio... uz lanac zamenio sam i remenicu radiice, stavio corteco...zamena lanca podrazumeva vadjenje mora napolje. sve to košta 1000e... zamena ulja u menjaču pod obavezno! sve to rade momci u pro sportu... oni će ti reći i da li je sve to ok... vlasnik servisa takodje vozi f30... tako da to je pavo mesto :)

Brate f30 320d 184ks menjan lanac pre godina ipo,menjam ulje na 10.000km u zadnje vreme se desava na prvom paljenju da prolupa neki par sekunda i se odma smiri.Zar moze da bude opet lanac sa novim imam pregjeno nekih 30.000km? Hvala
Navodno polovinom 2011 svi modeli sa n47 motorom imaju poboljšan sistem lanca najveće probleme sa lamcem su imali motori 2007-2011. Izbeći probleme sa lancem je najbolje što češćim menjanjem ulja u motoru 15-20k maks i ne momentalnim gašenjem motora posle žustrije vožnje.
@@nixon9714 Ja sam posjedovao najzlogasniji e90 sa 177ks 2010god i kad sam cuo razne price u njemu nakon par mjeseci sam ga prodao medjutim zalim taj dan sto sam to uradio... i opet sam u planu kupit e90 istrazivao sam isto te forume i kazu da bas u martu 2011 je rijesen taj problem sad koliko im je vjerovat.. a onda sam cuo price da je tek sa b47 oznakom (2015godiste) motori da je tad rijeseno ne znam kome vjerovat vise..
@@johngotti7429 ja imam 530xd 2007 nisam nikad imao probleme sa lancem ali je to m57 motor imao sam najviše problema sa strujom ccc mi otišao dva reglera akumulator mehanički je auto top prešao sada 291 000km radi ko sat linijski šestak mda tako i ja 10-12k km menjam ulje
Care nije mi jedna stvar jasna. Kada si snimao prije servisa, snimao si na 50°možda i niža temperatura ulja i čuo se jasan zveket, a kažeš nisi imao problema sa lancem. E sada nakom servisa snimaš ali na 85° i ne čuje se taj zveket koji se čuo prije mijenjana lanca. Što predstavlja taj zveket, ja sam mislio da je to udaranje neispravnog lanca.
Ovaj zvuk je pisutan prije zamjene i to stoji, samo je pitanje da li je lanac u pitanju. U vecini slucajeva ovaj "metalni" zvuk svi okatakterisu kao zvuk lanca i mjenjaju lanac jer tu ima dosta posla koji se naplati. Kad se vec dodje do samog lanca onda se moze vidjeti stanje, ali kasno jer oni ga vec rasklopili i zamjene ga preventivno. moguce da je i ovdje taj slucaj, nakon zamjene lanca jos uvijek bio prisutan zvuk i skontali da je remenica. imam slican zvuk kad je auto hladan, kad se ugrije nista se ne cuje, vjerujem da ce svi reci lanac, ali prije nego izvadim motor hocu da budem 100% do cega je.
pre nego što pitaš Boga, pitaj dobrog majstora 😂 šalu na stranu, mora da postoji neko curnje. Ili ga sagoreva motor, što bi rezultiralo plavim dimom na auspuhu.. ili možda curi na turbini.. svakako majstor može lako utvrditi gde odlazi toliko ulje. Mnogo je brate.

A u BMW ovlastenom servisu kazu da je stav BMW-a da motor smije potrositi do 0.7 l ulja na 1.000 km, i ako nema vidljivog curenja, dima ni traga, oni ne ulaze u kontrolu motora ako ne prelazi tu granicu. I karike su ok. Ne znam vise za sta da se uhvatim.

There is no problem brother. The engine was perfect before. Dont fix if not broke.

Two thing are important, frequent oil changes and disabling the start/stop automatic for chain health!
Can you disable it for more than just one journey?

My friend sayed that in bmw service told him that no reason for changing chain preventativ... I did it... But my service told me that chain was good.

I'm on 108k nothing changed and all is smooth and fine, just regular service every 5 & 10k over that last 6 years
Mine had 18k oil changes from previous owner lol. Rattling at 148k

My mehanics said that timing chain was ok, but crankshaft pully was for changing. My car is on 182000!!! Big difference 😊

I have changed crankshaft pulley and all vital parts 😊 cos engine goes out whrn you change timing chain... So ideal for refresh all. 👌

Najvažnije ti je da vidiš jel ti auto ima opoziv zbog EGR ventila. Da ne izbije požar. Proveri na sajtu
