You make me wonder why I ever gave up quilting. So much love to give. Thank you for your generosity and willingness to share not only a craft but a way to pass on memories.
I'm not sure if you know just how much you help people learn the art of quilting! I have learned more from you than all my other classes put together. In fact, I no longer take classes. But I just can't really put into words how much your contagious laughter and your more than obvious joy means to someone like me! Your tutorials just brighten my day and warms my heart! Thank you so very much.
Thank you SO much! You are so genuine in your presentation I always feel like I am right there with you and you are speaking directly to me! Delightful way to learn! Love the videos as I can watch them several times to be sure I don’t forget some important part.
When I hear your intro music I relax because I know that I'm in safe hands and will not only enjoy the video but completely understand the technique. Thank you for your wonderful videos
I make banners & find that it helps to put a sleeve on the bottom as well. I can slide a dowel through & it helps the fabric hang down straight & keeps the sides from curling in. It's like curtain weights but much easier to remove for storage & cleaning & it distributes any strain evenly across the fabric. Jenny - thanks for the close-ups on the knot & the binding stitch. Those little details really help.
Thank you for sharing this tute, Miss Jenny! This was the third video I found for making a hanging sleeve and it is definitely the easiest one to follow. My pumpkin quilt looks GREAT hanging in our living room now. Miss Jenny ROCKS!
Great video! One suggestion I have is to baste the sleeve to the back of the quilt before stitching the binding to the quilt. That way it's already in place and you won't have to worry about catching all layers while you're attaching the binding.
Don't forget to pin the bottom edge of the sleeve in place (or fold ends toward the center of quilt) before you put the binding on. Mine has gotten in the way as I sewed the binding on. Then I must "unsew" the binding to fix the mess! LOVE your tutorials Jenny!!!
thanks for the video i love your videos i have learned so much about piecing and binding and things like that and every time i need a refresher course i always come back to you......... your personality is perfect for this type if teaching
I just received a quilt this weekend as a gift and was wondering how to attach a sleeve. Perfect timing as always Missouri Quilt Co! You guys are fantastic and your tutorials are wonderful. Thank you for all you do!
When sewing the sleeve at the very top of the quilt, doesn't the sleeve itself show above the quilt once a rod is inserted and hung? Usually it's recommended to sew the sleeve beginning 1" below the binding so it doesn't show when the quilt is hung.
Thank you so much for this video! I just made my first quilt, which will hang above our couch, and your tutorials have been so helpful throughout the whole process!
Jenny... Thank you for this tutorial.... I've always been afraid of making a hanging sleeve,,,,,you took the mystery out of the process.... I can do this!
I love your method. That being said, our quilt show (Trinity Valley Quilter's Guild) has a limit on how high the quilt sleeve may be. The quilt I want to show in September is longer than the 84" from the floor, so I must put a sleeve lower on the back in order for it to not drag on the floor and get dirty or stepped on. Thank you for your wonderful videos.
I use a two inch piece to make my sleeve and fold it in half and sew both sides in with the binding. There is just enough room to slide the dowel thru and put the one cap back on the dowel when I am finished. Very similar to what you do but I don't have to tack to the quilt.
Thank you for this tutorial on hangings sleeves and the bonus tutorial on the binding stitch and knots. Now I see why a judge thought my binding stitches were too long. I am now making my stitches much closer to the size you suggest. I can see using those new clips to hold the layers when sewing on the sleeve. I hate pins. :) Thanks again. Sunroomquilts
Thank you, very helpful reminder. I’m always amazed when I see the ‘thumbs down’ in the comments. How can anyone watch a free tutorial and then ‘dislike’ it.
I was given a memory quilt from my quilting group when I moved back to my home state. It is completely finished so I will be hand sewing the pocket right under the existing binding and then hand sewing the bottom of the pocket to the backing. I will also do the exact same thing on the bottom of the quilt so I can insert a wooden dowel in the bottom to keep the quilt hanging straight down. This will be displayed in a bedroom. When it gets dusty, I will be able to take it down and launder it.
ty sew much, I had wanted to place a sleeve onto the back of a wall hanging, however I could not understand the sewing process to keep it from showing above the quilt. Very clear instructions.
Hi Jenny Loved your Hanging a Quilt tutorial, any chance we could have a look at the quilt you were demonstrating on (the unbound one)? I loved the look of the colours.
I love your hanging method I'm just up to binding one that has taken what feels like forever and a friend said to enter in in a fair but I had no idea how to hang it thank you
Great video. I love the block pattern on the quilt you are using for an example. What is the pattern? Very soft an soothing with the colors you have used.
Thanks for the tutorial! I was looking into how to do this a few months ago but didn't get my head around it. This is very handy for me lol. BTW Don't forget to turn that quilt behind Jenni as the front will be fading and the back will stay bright. Thanks again!
As always, a superb tutorial Jenny. Thank you so much Can I ask what is the pattern on the quilt you pretended to put a sleeve on, it looked great. Any chance of a tutorial on that?
Wow! Thanks for the tutorial. I need to see how to hang it on the rod. I know you put the rod through the sleeve....then what? Where is the hardware that holds the rod to the wall in relationship to the quilt?
Thomasean You can use the kinds of rods and hardware that you would use to hang curtains and drapes. There are loads of different looks to have. I tend to use round wooden rods and dowels. Google these various. Terms and you'll find lots of options.
Thank you for the info! Question: What if I don't have a sewing machine? Would doing this by hand be feasible? If not, what is a good brand of sewing machine that you would recommend?
Are you referring to the Virginia Quilt Museum in Harrisonburg? My grandmother donated the first quilt she made when she was 9-years old to that museum. :-)
Would love to see the quilt you are working on and a tutorial on making it. Also, Could you please expain the duck quacking in the opening of your tutorials? Thanks for another great tutorial!
This is such a wonderful tutorial (as always), but can you add a hanging sleeve to a quilt with a scalloped edge, like that one behind you? Or is there another way that's best to hang those? Or is it just best to drape them like you have that one? Sorry if this is an obvious one, I'm very new to quilting.
Hello Jenny! I really like that quilt you are using as an example. Did you do a video tutorial on it? I cannot believe I would have missed one! Anyway, you're the best!! God Bless!
Thank you for this video. I'm not understanding the stitch completely. When you run the needle through the stitch are you staying within the fold of the binding or the sleeve or are you going through all the layers down to the batting?
Did you stitch that binding an hanging sleeve with a regular foot? I thought that you are supposed to use a walking foot? Love your tutorials and sales!
I just love this woman! She is so thorough, and explains everything is such understandingly way. She doesn't miss any steps! Love you Jenny!
Thankyou sooooo much for all your tutorials and the time you spend showing us how to quilt, you are priceless xxx💜💜💜😘
You make me wonder why I ever gave up quilting. So much love to give. Thank you for your generosity and willingness to share not only a craft but a way to pass on memories.

Sadly I only can give one like. I have seen this video several times. So thank you !!!
When I hear your intro music I relax because I know that I'm in safe hands and will not only enjoy the video but completely understand the technique. Thank you for your wonderful videos
Best hand sewing binding tutorial.

Thank you. I hadn't thought of this. Good tip
Thank You Jenny! You are my first and only "go to" quilt instructor; demonstrations and instructions are seamless!
Thank you for sharing this tute, Miss Jenny! This was the third video I found for making a hanging sleeve and it is definitely the easiest one to follow. My pumpkin quilt looks GREAT hanging in our living room now. Miss Jenny ROCKS!
Best teacher in the world!
Great video! One suggestion I have is to baste the sleeve to the back of the quilt before stitching the binding to the quilt. That way it's already in place and you won't have to worry about catching all layers while you're attaching the binding.
Still such a useful tutorial. Many thanks from Edinburgh, Scotland. x

This was SUPER helpful! Thank you so much!
A much easier way of putting on the sleeve than I have been taught before. Thank you.
Enjoyed this. I never thought about adding the sleeve into the binding at the same time. Easy breezy! Thanks!
Ah thank you for that Jenny. I was worried that I would have to pull out my binding and re-do it but the last few comments helped me vastly.
I wanted to thank you for taking the time to do the tutorials!! I have learned so much and appreciate the work you do. Thank you !
Thank you so much for taking the time to reach out, a smith! We appreciate you and are so grateful to have you in our community!
This is a great tutorial... Jenny does so good on teaching.. I have learned a lot about quilting from her .... Thanks Jenny
Thank you, Jenny!! This could not have come at a better time.
MSQC rocks!
Just saw you on the national NBC news. Good job, you're our "Shero"!
thanks for the video i love your videos i have learned so much about piecing and binding and things like that and every time i need a refresher course i always come back to you......... your personality is perfect for this type if teaching
I just received a quilt this weekend as a gift and was wondering how to attach a sleeve. Perfect timing as always Missouri Quilt Co! You guys are fantastic and your tutorials are wonderful. Thank you for all you do!
Great summary! I appreciated reviewing this before submitting to our local show. It is easy to understand and answered all my questions. Thank you!
When sewing the sleeve at the very top of the quilt, doesn't the sleeve itself show above the quilt once a rod is inserted and hung? Usually it's recommended to sew the sleeve beginning 1" below the binding so it doesn't show when the quilt is hung.
1" below binding and small tuck in sleeve for rod to slide in freely.
Another great lesson on quilting from Jenny, thank you so much.
Janet
Thanks, Jenny! This is just what I needed to know, since I am making a baby quilt that has a cross-stitch front that I needed to hang.
Great explanation covering from several perspectives! Thank You Jenny!
Thank you so much for this video! I just made my first quilt, which will hang above our couch, and your tutorials have been so helpful throughout the whole process!

Jenny, great hints, but the binding finishes too narrow for folks entering their quilts in shows--the finished sleeve needs to be in excess of 4"
I use a two inch piece to make my sleeve and fold it in half and sew both sides in with the binding. There is just enough room to slide the dowel thru and put the one cap back on the dowel when I am finished. Very similar to what you do but I don't have to tack to the quilt.
Awesome technique, Jenny! I certainly enjoy all your tutorials. I have many several quilts using your instructions. Keep them coming!! Julie Edwards
You are priceless. A huge help. Thank you so much.
Great video, I was just thinking about how to hang my quilt, and then you came along. :) Thanks so much...

Thank you, very helpful reminder.
I’m always amazed when I see the ‘thumbs down’ in the comments. How can anyone watch a free tutorial and then ‘dislike’ it.
I would have loved to see the front of the quilt you were putting your binding on, in fact both quilts. Just love looking at other peoples quilts.
thank you so much - no one seems to show how to do this within the binding but your company -- I couldn't remember some parts so t his has helped
Thans for this great tutorial. Now I know how to hang my advent calender proberly. Thank you so much.
Been struggling figuring out just how to do this, THANK YOU!!!

Great tutorial. Thank you for teaching us. So very informative!
Thanks for this tutorial, Jenny!
Thank you I have avoided doing this. I'm sure it's in a book somewhere but I LOVE you video's !
THANK YOU Jennie that will be Perfect
FABULOUS! thank you Jenny. I have been asking how to do this x
Awesome tutorials! Makes my work so easy.
This really was easy. Thank you!
ty sew much, I had wanted to place a sleeve onto the back of a wall hanging, however I could not understand the sewing process to keep it from showing above the quilt. Very clear instructions.
Hi Jenny
Loved your Hanging a Quilt tutorial, any chance we could have a look at the quilt you were demonstrating on (the unbound one)? I loved the look of the colours.
Hi and thank you so much! This is just the tutorial I needed! 🌸🌸
Thank You Jenny and Staff.
I wrote in about a wall hanging am guessing it will work the same way.
God Bless
Excellent
Thanks for a a really useful video, new to quilting and finding your site really helpful.
We just got a peek of the lovely Square in a Square quilt yin were using as an sample.... Could we please see the whole quilt? I love this pattern...
I love your hanging method I'm just up to binding one that has taken what feels like forever and a friend said to enter in in a fair but I had no idea how to hang it thank you
Thank you! Wonderful tutorials!

Very nice Jenny.
you are so good at these videos and that iron is AWESOME. Its like a little robot!
a $200 dollar robot but very cool just the same.
As always, a superb tutorial Jenny. Thank you so much
Can I ask what is the pattern on the quilt you pretended to put a sleeve on, it looked great. Any chance of a tutorial on that?

The hardware usually comes with the rod you but depending on how long it is
I love the material and the pattern of the quilt you used! How about a tutorial on that quilt and the name of the fabric line?
the fabric line is Priscilla by Lila Tueller. Couldn't see the pattern really but summer in the park would be a good one for this fabric. HTH
Jenny, love your videos! Re hanging sleeves, can they be pieced to make them long enough for a big quilt.
wow thanks for this because this is for hanging a quilt what type of fabric did you use for the sleeve
Thanks Jenny!
Thank you! This was very helpful.
How do you hang a round quilt so that the top doesn't fold over?
Hello, do you have a tutorial for the quilt used in this example? It's beautiful! Thank you!!
Miss Jenny: Since you are going through so many layers should you use a walking foot? I love your tutorials. Thank you so much.
Great tutorial! I noticed a shelf on your wall with a bar to hang a quilt over, do you mind sharing where you got the wall shelf? Thanks
Thank you Jenny, this is great!!!! I love you :)
Do you need to add the half inch on to the hanging sleeve to make up for the rod or whatever you hang it with?
Thank you for the info! Question: What if I don't have a sewing machine? Would doing this by hand be feasible? If not, what is a good brand of sewing machine that you would recommend?
I've never quilted before but you have made me want to try. I live in UK so I don't know what batting or basting are ??? Jaqui
This is great! I've been wondering how to hang my antique quilt :-)
Are you referring to the Virginia Quilt Museum in Harrisonburg? My grandmother donated the first quilt she made when she was 9-years old to that museum. :-)
Wonderful! Thanks for sharing!
Would love to see the quilt you are working on and a tutorial on making it. Also, Could you please expain the duck quacking in the opening of your tutorials? Thanks for another great tutorial!
Very informative. Thank you
So helpful! Thanks so much!!
Will it make any difference if you stitch the sleeve after binding attached and of course not turned and sewn yet
Dumb question. Do you put the rod in the sleeve or between the quilt and the sleeve?
Very informative, thanks! Do you have any recommendations for an antique quilt that has a scalloped edge?
This is such a wonderful tutorial (as always), but can you add a hanging sleeve to a quilt with a scalloped edge, like that one behind you? Or is there another way that's best to hang those? Or is it just best to drape them like you have that one? Sorry if this is an obvious one, I'm very new to quilting.
What if it is self binding. Just tack down all edges?
Hello Jenny! I really like that quilt you are using as an example. Did you do a video tutorial on it? I cannot believe I would have missed one! Anyway, you're the best!! God Bless!
Thank you for this video. I'm not understanding the stitch completely. When you run the needle through the stitch are you staying within the fold of the binding or the sleeve or are you going through all the layers down to the batting?
Thank you, you're the best!
Thank You!!!
Why do you not extend the rod pocket to the end of the top?
Do you also stitch down the ends of the hanging sleeve? Thanks.
Did you stitch that binding an hanging sleeve with a regular foot? I thought that you are supposed to use a walking foot? Love your tutorials and sales!
Hermoso todo lo que enseñas
