  • ‪@SweetheartQuiltDesign‬ presents this tutorial on how to put a hanging sleeve on a quilt when the binding is already on. Becky Johnson takes you step-by-step through the process. Learn how to secure the sleeve to the back of your quilt so the quilt won't curl around the rod when you hang it.

Very useful. I like how you demonstrate. It feels real , somehow. Slickness can often discourage..your results are inspiring.

Thank you for showing me this. I have a quilt I decided to hang long after I finished it. This is perfect.

I am on my first quilt to hang and was concerned about it hanging straight at the top. The excess is the trick! Thanks!

I wanted to figure out a way to machine stitch the top of the sleeve without unstitching the binding! I’ve used this method a lot!

When you put the fold on the quilt (before stitch in the ditch) was it just at the inside edge of the binding?

Yes, I put pins from the front through to the fold in the back so I’m lined up when I sew.

Thank you for this tutorial. Am wondering if you hand-stitched the short side of the sleeve as well so it is connected to the quilt back?

I never do but you could stitch the short part closest to the back to the backing.

Why do you use such a wide sleeve? I would think that half the 8 inch would be large enough to accommodate even a one inch dowel.

The 8” is folded in half so it’s 4”. You want the front to lay flat so the sleeve needs the extra length to accomplish that. The circumference of a 1” dowel is 3.1415… so 4” total wouldn’t be enough for the front to lay flat, it would curve around the dowel. You can experiment with this by just pinning the sleeve on and see how you like it. I’m always experimenting and trying new ideas. 😊

@@SweetheartQuiltDesign Thank you for this explanation. I think it makes sense - just have to try it.
