I did this egr delete a few weeks ago. It solved my overheating isue due to exhaust gas going into the cooling due to faulty egr cooler. I only blanked the pipe from the exhaust that goes over to the egr cooler on the inlet side. Those wouldn't slacken. The one I tried was only offering to shear so I left it. I never disconnected the solenoids. Now after about 200miles I have the start of an electrical fire somewhere down the back of the starter motor or over beside the exhaust. I need to get the truck towed home before I can search for the wiring issue. Is this likely due to not disconnecting the solenoids or possibly caused by excess heat in the exhaust melting wiring which is routed to close to the exhaust. Any advice/pointers will be greatly appreciates since I need the truck for work and it has been broken down since Thursday last week. Thanks in advance. 2004 Mazda B-2500 2.5 td 4x4 fire behind engine after blanking egr
The burning issue you're having sounds like a coincidence. There is nothing in the EGR system that could cause that, there's no sensors to cause overfueling or leaning out that could make things run hot, in theory it should run cooler. The solenoids won't overheat as they are either open or closed (on or off) so can't be getting overloaded even if left connected. Sorry I can't help diagnose a burning smell from this description
@@DumDum306 I was informed on some other source that the exhaust on vehicles that have had the egr blanked off can glow red when in slow traffic and other conditions when air cooling is compromised. It definitely smells electrical and the battery was drained to low 12v and the earth lead from the battery to inner wing was heating up when I tried cranking the engine clearly showing something is short circuiting. I will get under it tomorrow and find the melted wiring and if not that I suspect the starter might have stuck on engaged drive and overheated. I suspect if wiring they will be beside the exhaust down-pipes and cat somewhere. The smoke was billowing out from the bonnet and underneath just before I switched off the ignition.
I think I gained a 10% improvement in fuel mileage without the plate and with the same load..I am going to try a 6mm hole in the plate next as I heard the sensors need a little Co2 to function correctly
What did you end up doing with the black Ranger? Did you get another engine or what happend ? Im going too have too weld mine up, she snapped in half.. lol
+DumDum306 Ahhhh I see, and do you notice any power difference now you've blanked off the egr? my mate says his transit goes a bit better now it's been blanked And what other easy power gains is there in a ranger?
+jonathan smith The exhaust gas when mixed with air from the breather creates a very heavy gunk that covers all the inlet tract restricting the flow of air.
You can yes but as they don't make vacuum in the same way as a petrol you need a microswitch that activates a solenoid when the throttle is closed and that solenoid needs to be in run from the vac line.
I want ask regarding My ford Ranger year 2003, The problem is when I start , indicator at meter RFW always light up, I have to reset by manual switch which is located at left stering . Last time when not like this, Always when I stop and start again I have to reset, why happen like this?? Can somebody help me?? To solve this problem??
Common problem with these bakkies. Did you have any work done on your gearbox? Sometimes the mechanics mix up the wiring. Aswell have a look under the hood. Blue and yellow solenoids. Make sure they are function properly, and that you do not have any vacuum leaks. Also don't mix the up!
Just bought a 2004 Thunder with a knackered rear diff, I'll do this straight away.
Nowadays we use catch can to catch oil from the engine into the intake manifold.

I have just removed my plate after a year as the fuel economy went up considerably..trying it without to compare.
wayne bonham how's you ute going now?

Fitting a blanking plate will that cause the engine to go into a limp as there are vacuum lines running off the valve?
No it's an old school mechanical injection engine, there's no ecu control of fueling or boost so you won't get an EML.
Nice!!
can you leave the link for this blanking plate?
What does that do to the car
Can i take all the egr stuff off and blank from the bottom
Yes you could if you wanted, it's just more work as you need to blank the vacuum line and remove and blank the pipe from the exhaust manifold.

+11MrEwan I sold it. Replacing the engine (as I'd of had to buy a crane) would have cost more than I paid for the truck.

Nope, none whatsoever. You shouldn't notice any either unless your old valve was leaking (which they sometimes do)
How is Thermos in ford ranger 2.5 td wl?
Why do you want to blind the egr?
i have a ranger myself and im curius :)

Can you put a blow off valve on a ranger
You can yes but as they don't make vacuum in the same way as a petrol you need a microswitch that activates a solenoid when the throttle is closed and that solenoid needs to be in run from the vac line.
Why would you put a bov in diesel tho

you have a vaccuum leak somewhere, check all your piping.

Here in Queensland Australia if you do this to your car it won't pass a road worthy and is a finable offence if they find it
Easy to take out and put back after
Still dirty from P&P ;)
G your engine is dirty.
