How to: Test and change GLOW PLUGS (ford courier / mazda Bravo)

- Just a quick video showing hot to test and change glow plugs in a diesel engine. This was in my Ford Courier 2.5L ute, it is the same as the Mazda Bravo, and Ford Ranger, Mazda Bounty in other countries.

Cheers mate. Excellent production, just the facts and clear video showing what is going on. I just bought new plugs for my bravo today. I now know I want some small sized deep sockets and anti seize before tackling the job.

Excellent guide mate, thanks. Found my faulty plug in a blink. Only difference is 7mm nuts on my '05 cheers👍
7mm? That's odd. I wonder if an imperial plug was used, and it actually a 9/32".

I was lucky to get 12 months before another would blow, I just replaced them as needed. Or do the set and keep the good ones as spares for next time on drops out.

Hey bro, good tutorial vid there man that helps me out im having those exact issues with my glowies, quick question, why the antiseize? done a fair amount of research before i dove into changing my plugs but nowhere mentioned using antiseize on the new plugs lol, cheers bro

You really dont want to snap them off in there.
@@FirePantsFabrication yeah that makes sense, was wondering if there was a certain time period where ill be safe to pull them out again if i diddnt originally use anti seize? I couldnt get my hands on any when i installed my new plugs but i have some now nd want to take them back out to apply the antiseize but yeah i really dont want to snap them in the process haha, its only been about three weeks since i put the new ones in there

Thanks mate that helps me heaps.I have the same engine in my bravo and I had problems starting it.I was going to replace glow plugs but this video saved me from wasting my money.
I have problems starting mine so I got a new battery and replaced the fuel filter but when cold it still won't start without a quick spray of start ya bastard and then it runs fine with no smoke ,no missing or farting.I turn it off and while hot it starts straight away so I don't know why it won't start cold.Any tips.
Try giving the had primer a few pumps before next cold start, if it fires right up it’s likely bleeding fuel from the pump. The diaphram can fail and let’s fuel bleed back out of the pump. Fairly simple fix, you can get replacement primers from repco.
Is the antiseize an absolute necessity, I forgot to get it when I was at the parts store.
Will it be ok to run the car for 5 minutes to get it home and then take the plugs out again and put antiseize on later?

Hey mate, I recently got a td courier, which glow plugs would you recommend?
I had a good run with my Bosch ones, only changed to ngk after getting a better deal on them.
Overall more people seem to prefer ngk ones.

If you have to check your plugs before removing the power wire and rail could you have just taking the battery poles out and use the tester
Im not sure what you mean, but you cant isolate which one has failed when they are joined together by the rail.
my ford ranger is like that now when its cold i need to give gas when i start and i have no idle when cold but when its warm i have can it be the glow plugs.
the white smoke is a good sign of a glow plug or compression issue.
Pull the rail and check for continuity through the glow plugs, then youll know for sure.
Mate , a couple are feeling super tight , should this only be done with a cold engine ? Thanks
shouldnt matter, cold or hot. but dont break them.
If they are tight when cold, try when hot, or vice versa.
so what was causing the white smoke when cold starting

white smoke is unburnt fuel, without the glow plug, and a cold engine it was missing on 2 cylinders, but still injecting diesel.
