    You exude Presence. :) It is so charming to see. The spaces between your words speak more than the words themselves. Now you know how to find peace within. You need never lose that. Thank you for sharing your joy, my friend. :)

    Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us!
    I didn't ever watch your videos before, so I don't know what you used to talk like, but you seem really clear-thinking, and really comfortable with silence. Most of us don't pause as much in mid speech, and fill any gap with words or "um". It's really calming to listen to you talk - maybe because you are calm and at ease as well. I've been considering Vipassana for a while, and I'm going to go sign up now. Thanks again for taking the time to share with us and open up. It's always nice to put a face/personal story to an experience that is otherwise full of the "unknown".
    I'm excited for this journey!

    I have to say Vipassana changed my life. It was so tough at times. I too at points thought I could not get through this. But I stuck at it and I am so glad I did. I did mine in Cambodia and the person that went in was not the person that came out. I think we all have issues deep inside of us and Vipassana helped me to identify some of them and taught me how to breath again. I would like to see more people do this as the world would be a better place if we all knew how to breath.
    May all beings be happy. :)

      :) I feel the same. A different person when I came out but still the same. More understanding, calm and patient. I would like to see more people do this too. Much benefit from it for everyone in my opinion. Thanks for commenting :)

    I just watched it...your eyes said it all...
    my partner went kitesurfing to
    Sri Lanka for 9 weeks. And suddenly decided to do the course there...I was (still am so astonished). His personality has been always so black and white. He is a very good and honest person but tormented by his anxiety - some desire to strive better and better for his family. He understands that work is not something he should be anxious about so this part is ok.
    He started his 10 day course yesterday....i am happy for him but feel so anxious as I would love him to benefit from it to feel happier in life....i watched your video and you touched me very deeply

    Matts, here what u have done is a noble deed. Your expressions speak for themselves in the video. I congratulate you for sharing such a near true experience of Vipassana. I had thoughts to start, its happening on 21 sep near New Delhi, India. After watching your video, n specially the near true experience you have brought, I find it easier to say a yes. God knows how my body n soul react to it when I hit the deck!, but for now I feel I should do it.. like mark twain has said it, "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did so. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."..................... Matts, I see Mark's words true thru ur Kaleidoscope and I will come back with my real experience for other viewers to utilize. Thanks again, Matts you have been phenomenal in keeping this as least polar as possible. Peace Bro.. May you succeed n turn around a few lives around you. Take care. Peace Bro.

    Congrats on your experience! Just a tiny caveat: unfortunately, not every mental problem can be solved with vipassana, and the rules even explicitly discourage the attendees from coming if they have a major mental health problem (because in all likelihood such a person will start digging into themselves, freak out and break down). Not saying vipassana is not available to such people, but a 10-day course might not be the riight thing. Cheers!

    Its funny, been looking at the different experiences with retreats on here. The negative ones I've seen haven't finished their courses. This is my best advice for people going to a retreat. Finish the damn thing. Its only 10 days. Going for like 6 days for example would be such a mistake.

    I just finished the 10-days. I got home and now I'm feeling very overwhelmed and lost. The noise around me is so loud and I feel like I had forgotten everything I learned in the last 10 days!
    I need to find my balance and equanimity.
    Does anyone have any advice for me?

    • @ItsPlushie
      @ItsPlushie 5 років тому +5

      I know how you feel! It is overwhelming to get home after being in such a sanctuary for almost 2 weeks. I went on my first course a year ago and when I got home I didn't even know what to do. I didn't want to get sucked back into the trance that the majority of people are in (me included), caused by unconscious lifestyles and all kinds of overstimulation, mainly from media.. I had a hard time feeling comfortable being on my phone, watching series and movies etc, because I knew that the unsatisfiable craving for more would come back - and it did.
      My advice is to keep doing the daily recommended practice of 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the evening. I gradually stopped my practice and I regret it every day. The benefits are truly incredible and I can't wait until my next course. Keep it up and you will adapt just fine. And well done for completing your first course! :)

      Yes! I had a dark night of the soul... I'm still on it ten years later. Meditation retreats can damage some people.

    • @mikeyo1234
      @mikeyo1234 5 років тому

      @Wesley Lubbe It depends what came up for him. Severe trauma, dissociation, psychosis, anxiety, existential crisis? There are charlatans who will claim they can fix your friend! Sadly, even registered professionals can be awful but it's your best chance. Terms worth googling are Dark Night of the Soul or Zen Sickness. If you contact the course leaders they'll probably not help. A psychologist could help the most I think. Mike

    • @mikeyo1234
      @mikeyo1234 5 років тому

      @Wesley Lubbe Yes, the break-up wouldn't help, however it's more likely that lots of stuff buried deep down inside him surfaced. Meditation is like digging deep down in your garden, you might end up purifying the soil by finding and removing weeds or you might find all manner of unpleasant things that you didn't know where there. I got very severely burned myself... still recovering so many years later, but some people will mend more quickly. Tell him I'm thinking of him, and of course it's difficult for those who know someone suffering. Best wishes. Mike

    • @mikeyo1234
      @mikeyo1234 5 років тому +2

      I'd recommend treating meditation like weight lifting... build up slowly. Meditate 10 minutes a day to start with. Go for quality not quantity. Some people say push on through but I think that's potentially negligent. Some meditation places now insist people have meditated for a few years as a beginner first. They don't allow novices. Avoid the spiritual ego. Self-compassion. Good luck.

      I'm back bro it was awesome. Went to the center in GA. Overall it was hard, enlightening, and rewarding. I haven't really got to see the effect its application in life but I felt some positive vibes today for sure. I wanna go back soon. Like a couple months. I had the flow but overall I kinda feel like I just got started. Definitely glad I did it.

      Diddy Gator what Is the name of this retreat? I stay in Alabama and this sounds like a close one for me. Can I email you about it?

      +justin scott www.patapa.dhamma.org/ there you go brother. They stay booked up like 3 months out pretty much always. I got lucky and scored an opening the day before a class when I went. nice place and if you're in Alabama it's way closer than anything else.

    the only thing that worries me is sitting...I am scared that will I be able to complete

    • @FishermansLife

      Sitting was hard for me too because I have knee problems from playing basketball. After the third day the pain was too much and I asked the instructor for a chair. After that everything went excellent. If you can't sit no matter how much you try, you can always ask for a seat. Do whatever to make yourself comfortable so you can get the most out of the experience! :)
