I've always loved minimalist camping, it can definitely get you away from the crowds. And I love seeing you back in your environment. I think it's great what you're doing on the mountain, but it's the sound of those waves on the rocks that truly is Fisherman's Life.
You showed us how people from the past lived, spending the whole day to work and provide for the necessities to sustain life and making it a fun adventure!!! Enjoyed this episode!!! Mahalo!
That piece of plastic on the guy lines of the tent are rope tensioners. It allows you to put your stake down and tighten the line without have to move your stakes every time. Back in the day, I camped for years not know what they were until someone pointed them out and they were a game changer.
A little pro tip: tampons make great fire starters. They come individually wrapped and will stay dry. Add some chap stick to increase the burn time. Love the video.
Redondo is nice! There is some good camping around there if you know where to look, especially on the nearby secluded beaches of Palos Verdes, just gotta find the right spots
Survival rule #1: Always make sure you stop at a Safeway somewhere off I5 while on the way to the beach to get a barbecue lighter and some McCormick salt and pepper grinders. Freshly grinding your salt from the raw rock form is far more flavorful and is the way the ancient San Franciscans would disperse their salt. A dull pocket knife is also essential lol. Love ya fisherman’s life
Good job Matt! Fun video as usual! You’re a pioneer bro! Usually survival bushcraft happens in the woods but I really appreciate how you’re doing it by the ocean
I really enjoyed this format. As well as all the other videos you post as well! Makes me want to go out and be out there near the water and nature! Thank you I’m always checking for new videos. God bless!
I've also heard that the moisture could also lead to mold inside your air mattress. Some mattresses have bags that double as pumps or Flextail makes nice air pumps.
"I even have some avocado that i stepped on"😂😂😂😂. Man having a fire is everything!! Absolute game changer!!! For many reasons, cooking and warmth obviously but also for morale!!!! Im an absolute fire bug!! Its my favorite part of camping, hunting or fishing!!
Matt, great job! Totally enjoyed this video, and I'm love your products. See you at the fair and please do more videos like this. I'm planning on doing this with my son in the spring.
My first time watching your vlogs - they're terrific, portrays a simple & easy solo adventure out and about, so nice to watch... reminds me of the past with my dad, and my adventurous hunter gatherer friends
I always enjoy your videos. I am a truck driver and spent a lot of time on the road and these type of videos. Relax me even just listening to them and glancing here and there. Is trout season you should be hitting up the mountains closer to home.
Heck yea I’m going to recommend this video to my uncle as he enjoy the coast and is always asking me when we are going to take a trip as we live in Sacramento, this is 100% true camping.
This is honestly my new favorite video of yours and I’ve been watching you for years 😂 I love this type of video 👍🏼 hope you keep doing these type of videos.. maybe more work to make but way better
So glad I found your channel! Enjoyed this camp!! The fire by the ocean is awesome! Did that once in Oregon with the driftwood! Wished I could of camped but wasn't prepared. Will be watching more of your adventures!!😊
def do more. set up tent a few days b4 trip. "Camp Dry", any walmart. 1 good coat, dry weather, let ry 90 min, apply 2nd coat. JUST lightly, both times. neosporin, x strength oragel (amazing topical anesthetic) and band-aid. Infection prevention, pain relief. DEF a nice alternative format. well done
Hi Matt & Family ! May the New Year be filled with Life’s Endless Blessings for you all ! This was a great little format, keep up the great work ! I hope I can make it to the street fair to meet you in person. I live in Idaho, but my Son’s live in SF near Ocean Beach. Stay safe & keep smiling !
I have been subscribed to your for some time and really enjoy your videos. Very genuine content, not trying to sell anything and in all serious-ness I think youre extremely hilarious. (I thought that was a seal but was just a rock) lmao keep making these videos!!!
Normally I almost never comment on videos. I've been watching your videos for at least five years. I think these catch and cook/ camping/ bushcraft style videos of yours are very good. Thank you for your work and keep it up. greetings from Germany
Also for these camping adventures, you should pack in some of those big feet warmer pads that you can put in your sleeping bag at night! I camped in Colorado and that was a cheap luxury!
I love the smell of old growth redwood driftwood fires on the beach. The lost coast is not for the faint at heart. Any bear sign? Bonus... a new way to cook perch! Thanks, Matts
@@melbaelba5706 bears used to not worry me. But now that I'm near 60, as much time as I've spent in the wilderness in this part of California, my luck has to be running out. One about 10 yards away didn't see me, and another mother with cubs about 100 yards on the other side of a ravine. Bears like to walk beaches because of all the stuff that washes ashore. I've seen bear tracks at Dry Lagoon beach and they went on for about a mile before I turned back. You can depend on a grizzly attacking you, so I'm glad we don't have those. But black bears are unpredictable. Most won't. But there's always a chance.
I LOVE these videos where you go back to your roots and fish with very little gear whilst being resourceful scavenging bait from the land. Please be careful out there. How do you sleep by yourself out in the open boy???!!!! And.....more please! 😂
Matt, I'm 100% down with you doing more videos in this format! Please next time bring some garlic and onion for your fish patty. That dinner was mouthwatering for real. LIKE BUTTON SMASHED!
Love this video. I grew up on Californias Lost Coast, this reminds me of good times. Fire starting tip, alway bring a paper grocery bag with you. It weighs nothing, and takes up very little space. Tear off strips, and roll the strips into "logs" to start fires with. They light easy, and burn for a while. To make them burn longer like a candle wick, rub some of your butter on both sides of the paper before rolling. Easy, light weight, free fire starters.
@fisherman'slife, Mat u one of the realest fisherman I know, u putting raw & cooked steak on a rock and munch it without hesitation, that's a true outdoor meal. Improvising and using nature to your advantage. Very authentic. Nice content as always
man i love your content for some reason it stopped popping up on my favorites !! glad to see your back on my dailys !! keep up the great work man ! wish i lived out near the places you go they are amazing
Another great video! I enjoy all your videos rainbow perch is my favorite fish to catch years ago I remember they were so easy to catch deep fried they are the best next time do a burger with that perch filets!
Buy yourself a Bark River mini Bushcrafter. It's a very lightweight, full tang, fixed blade made with 3V steel. Absolutely fantastic little camp knife, feather sticking would be infinitely easier for you. 3V steel holds and edge for a long time, is incredibly tough and is pretty stain resistant to do the chromium levels. Not that expensive either and you can find them on the secondary even cheaper. Probably doesn't weight more than your folder.
Was introduced to your show from Watching Outdoor chef life. I’m Asian American enjoy nature , outdoor fishing , kayaking and good food . This is a good video in nature 😊
Man your videos are incredible! You’re very educating as well. Thank you for taking the time to put together this amazing content and risking your life and health doing these solo missions! Be blessed bro, respect.
You, Outdoor Chef Life, Die Hard Fishing, and other fishing UA-camrs should do a 5 week survival challenge on a deserted island. Like The Island with Bear Grylls. That would be sooo awesome to see you guys smash it, surviving on what the ocean provides.
Another PO thing to consider is to make sure your fire poker isn't made out of it, or (if you can tell) was sitting in it. I made that mistake once and then got the oil inside my sleeping bag. Had it all over the place! Not fun to be itchy everywhere.
I love these videos. I can't do anything like this myself (as a woman alone, it wouldn't be safe), but I really enjoy watching your adventures. One thing that might help on a future trip...bring a zip lock bag of dryer lint. It can be smashed down to a very small package, it's very light and can really help getting a fire started. 🙂 Just a suggestion. Thx again for a great video.
I use a bottle of the fuel additive “Heat.” it’s just alcohol and will dry out wood on rainy or snowy days. I know it is not minimalist, but neither is a lighter using the same alcohol fuel. Just sprinkle some on your starter twigs and you get things started.
I LOVED THIS VIDEO PLEASE MORE!!! me and my friend watch you all the time and we are considering making a channel like yours in the future. We are based in socal though, soon brotha!
Ive actually missed content like this. Way back in the day they used to be my fav.
Can't forget that peanut butter cup, butter and broccoli.

Perfection. Love the vid format Matt!
I love this format, please do more

been liking some camping/shelter videos lately. taking interest in fishing too. so if this format combines a hike-shelter-catch/cook im here for it
A little pro tip: tampons make great fire starters. They come individually wrapped and will stay dry. Add some chap stick to increase the burn time.
Love the video.
So glad I (re)found this channel. Please do more of the overnight camping catch and cooks!
Greetings from Redondo Beach CA USA 🇺🇸. Your video just took me to a camping from the comfort of my home. Stay warm and be safe. Cheers 🥂

Salt is salt. Pepper is better freshly ground.
Nice with the early morning upload! About to watch this while I get ready to head out fishing.
All through the years... the scenery never gets old... just beautiful
Spring is on the way and Matts is uploading again finally the year is getting good!!
Awesome video as usual! This is also a shout out to Grandpa Jim in Medford, Oregon. Thanks for introducing me to this channel! Aloha from Hawaii!

Flextail is what I use, they're so small and extremely portable.
Mold honestly shouldn't be a problem
Air is moisture lmao 🤣 read a book
@@rodrigoboyz8618 don't you mean air contains moisture?
Is the mold a hindrance when camping?

From filleting fish to battoning firewoods, that sure is a multipurpose knife..😮🔥
Really cool video. Got to live vicariously through you, and pick up some great outdoor survival tips along the way. Thanks for the video!
