As a Lawyer, am always very conscious of my use of language when interacting with non lawyers. The essence of communication is the ability to convey your message properly without confusing your listeners or mentally tasking your audience to understand you. Great tip. Thank you always. 👍

You were born for this topic, Vivienne! :)
The Atticus Finch reference was right on point. I think one of the easiest ways to re-train your ear for eloquent speech is watching the classics, like To Kill a Mockingbird.

Thank you. Many people don't realize how they sound. I learned the hard way to slow down and use $2. Words to suit people, not $50. Words. Look at something facing your audience. Let your eyes meet a few faces I found myself staring at one person, making them stare back, probably making them feel uncomfortable no. Very little hand gestures, flat footed speaking with authority. I found someone I like to emulate. This was so helpful ❤

You've inadvertently picked up the tendency of articulates to speak in 92 bpm.
Yes. That's quite likely something you never even considered - and yet, here you are.
Well done mate - it's something 99.9% of people know, but 100% of the great speakers do - and this isn't limited to English specifically.
Now you're aware, try to recognise it.
And forgive me if it's something you mention later in the video, I paused pretty early so I could type this without losing focus on your words.
Either way, very well done mate.

Vivianne, could you make video(s) on the harmfulness of OnlyFans and similar platforms where young girls show off their bodies, mistakenly thinking it is empowering? This needs to be adressed, perhaps you can pull out some of these girls and bring them back to the path of elegance.

This is a wonderful idea and I would be very interested in seeing that subject matter covered. So many people put no thought into it what their online presence conveys and that it will be available forever.
This video made me think about the young women who post videos, many of which have a great message, but ruin them by their constant use of expletives.

Thank you, this timely subject is exactly what I was hoping for! It reminds me of a news report I saw yesterday, where the woman being interviewed interjected 'uhh...' every few words with long, droning sentences. I was unable to listen, which prompted me to question my own communication skills. There is definitely room for improvement, but I'm fortunate to have your example of polished speaking.🌹

Excellent advice. Please don’t over do it though. Speech should still sound natural and not contrived. I particularly liked your last point. Although I learned public speaking in high school and college leadership positions, being a trained singer helped with voice placement and knowing how to round the tone. As you said, it is very useful to listen to and repeat the phrasing of someone who speaks well. Watch films that depict upper class or refined people and mimic their phrasing and stance. Rehearse when alone.
When in my 20s, I was thrown into Washington DC high society due to my ex husband’s work as a journalist. It was necessary to learn to speak with and hold the attention of many notables, Ambassadors, Senators, heirs to shipping fortunes, even producers like the Pedas brothers who fiancéd Cohen Brother’s films, world famous intellectuals like Christopher Hitchens and celebrities such as George Stephanopolous. I carried these lessons forward so that many years later when my now partner/fiancé heard me speak in a professional setting he was so impressed that he approached me and asked for my business card. He always references how listening to that exchange convinced him that he not only needed to hire me, I was practicing law at the time, but he watched me to see whether I might become his second wife. Little did I know that this man was a billionaire.
So, please ladies, listen up. You rarely get a second chance to impress and you never know who is watching you. ❤

Interesting story. I agree, it shouldn't be overdone. And while it's good to know the rules of elegance and good speech, being yourself is more important than following rules all the time and can make others feel relaxed when they see you're imperfect.
People I first meet tell me I come across as proper and classy, but my boyfriend (as well as myself) noticed a lot of people seem like they can't be themselves around me. Til they get to know me, and find out I'm not so proper as I first appear. I just find the elegance within and whip it out in certain settings because some of the rules just feel unnatural and forced. Anything that feels too unnatural is overdoing it, IMO.

    • @m.s9146
      @m.s9146 Рік тому +1

@@anacom4238 thanks for responding. It depends on your purpose, I think. I’ve found that all people respond to your interest in them. Many very high ranking men know how to establish a flow and enjoy entertaining you. When I met Senator John McCain (he and my fiancé were great friends), I found his charm overwhelming. He carried the conversation and loved to tease so you only needed to be yourself. The most difficult person for me to meet and hold my own was the former Greek Prime Minister, Mitsotakis, father of the current Greek Prime Minister. He asked to have tea with me to thank me for an article we’d gotten printed in the Washington Post which helped the Greek tourist economy enormously. I was a bundle of nerves that day! What a kind man, though.
I also practiced law for many years (30) and had to train myself, as it seems you have, to not take over conversations. Fortunately, my mother was a soft spoken southern lady, married to a very powerful man, my father, so I learned the ropes from her. Think being raised around people with high position helps as well.
