    Dark Souls has a reputation for being one of the hardest game series to come out on modern consoles. You know that when a game's tagline is "You will die," you're in for a rough experience. But is Dark Souls' difficulty fair? Is the game ACTUALLY any good, or is Dark Souls a game made difficult in a cheap, unfair, and glitchy way? In short, DOES DARK SOULS SUCK? Today, we intend to find out!
    Thanks to my buddy Jirard from The Completionist:

    I'm conflicted. I love this game. Like, it's one of my favorite games that I've recently played. And yet, I recognize that a lot of the difficulty comes from poorly-explained mechanics and obtuse puzzles that you would NEVER be able to figure out without the internet...so does it suck? No. I don't think so. But overlooking it's flaws seems a bit short-sighted.

    Does Demon's Souls suck? No.
    Does Dark Souls suck? No.
    Does Dark Souls II suck? Yes, but only when compared to the first two.
    Dark Souls is not difficult for unfair reasons. The Rusted Iron ring is not in ANY way essential. The Tiny Being's ring gift description is a typo missed in the English translation of a Japanese game. The in-game description is correct. The game shows you what effects leveling up a stat has before you accept the changes, making faulty assumptions about the stat is your fault, not the game's fault. The humanity argument is also weak, because it affects story-NPC interactions in a meaningful way. That is a good thing. Lackluster fighting mechanics? Really? How big is the list of action games with better fighting mechanics? Cheap death? The giant that throws the giant explosive urn is visible before he can ever hit you, and the ground where the explosive urn lands is scorched. By the time you reach this area you should know to be situationally aware or pay the price. All of these points against Dark Souls are impotent whining from someone who clearly learned nothing the game was teaching, or a complaint about a typo.
    This was not a deadlock by any means. If you're going to have an argument against Dark Souls, at least have meaningful cogent points.

      I don't even think Dark souls 2 is even bad compared to other games From Software has worked on but it is somewhat lackluster and it may be the fact that Hidetaka didn't actually direct this one but considering he's back and working on Dark Souls 3 I have high hopes for it.

      i like your arguments and agree with you. but i believe that his argument is scripted so that it sounds more like the common gamer to make some viable opinions from their point of view. from the common gamers view this would look like an unfair game, with not much of a storyline because most games nowadays spoon feed you just about everything

    • @Yorikoification
      @Yorikoification 8 років тому +4

      +Velexia Ombra I made a list for you:
      Illussionary walls, some of them are visible but others are undetectable
      Grab attacks, no where does the game tell you how to escape them
      Mimics...I do not need to explain why
      All NPC quest lines, they teleport away and you have no idea where they go
      Platforming elements in a game where you have no dedicated jump button
      Bed of Chaos floor collapsing at completely random places
      Stray and Firesage demon bullshit explosive instakilling attacks
      Parrying works differently for you than it does for enemies, they go into a parry stance which you'll need to feel the effects off at least once before you realize to either kick or not attack them whilst they are in that stance
      Lautrec cutting off the main interconnecting bonfire with no warning early game...cheers!
      All enemy projectiles are homing, even arrows and bolts
      Enemies in tight corridors can cut through walls and hit you while you're restricted to rapiers and spears unless you want your weapon to bounce off
      I can go on...How would you be able to know and defend yourself from any of these in your first playthrough?
      The fact that a lot of these you HAVE to look it up online shows that it is unfair, sloppy game design.

    • @TaterTeeTz
      @TaterTeeTz 8 років тому +38

      Yoriko Arran lol its unfair in design to make you learn from your mistakes. Illusory walls are supposed to be hidden for a purpose, and in no way is there a rulebook for game design saying that they need to let you know where it is (besides that defeats the purpose of exploring). As for npc quest lines your supposed to pay attention to dialogue to understand where they're going so thats on you for not listening if you got lost because i had no problem. The mimics are apart of the rogue like aspect of this game, which is to way your actions heavily and never get too careless or it vosts you dearly. As for parrying, you must not be good at it, because i notice no difference between me and enemies in that regard. Lautrec cutting off the main bonfire isnt a big deal considering its part of his questline, at the end of which the bonfire goes back to normal. And your weapons can go through walls too so i dont know why you're complaining considering you can exploit it. Your supposed to learn through trial and error, and don't need to look up anything at all, you just missed the entire point of the game and mistook it for your average hack n slash. Its unfair, but in the old school game factor that it will take many tries. The fact the complete edition say in the title "prepare to die" makes that clear before you popped it in your console or pc. In the end it comes down to you misunderstanding your purchase

      all of the "Dark Sucks" points are garbage, and you can tell he spent zero time researching. Rusted iron ring is NOT a mandatory item, and the starting gift doesn't really matter and doesn't not affect gameplay much (unless you choose master key), humanity is easy to get and even without using it game is not too difficult. As for you leveling intelligence.. You can see how each stat impacts your AR so thats on you. "block, block , block..." Yeah I bet you hid behind your shield constantly f*cking casul. ah yes, being able to walk a little faster through the bottom section of blight town and maybe the bottom of sen's fortress makes it way better than:
    Ring of favor and protection: Which increases your health, stamina and equip load.
    Havel's ring: Which increases your equip load by an insane amount allowing you to roll faster with heavy armor sets.
    Covetous Gold Serpent Ring: Which boosts your item discovery by 200 allowing you to farm items ALOT faster.
    Covetous Silver Serpent Ring: Boosts souls gained from enemies.
    Hornet Ring: Boosts your critical attacks perfect for pvp.
    Wolf ring: Just when you think Havel's armor set poise is too much.
    Bellowing Dragon Crest Ring: Boosts sorcery and pyromancy damage by 20%.
    Cloranthy Ring: An amazing ring that increases your stamina regen by an insane amount, personal favorite paired with grass crest shield.
    and finally Dark Wood Grain Ring: Which increases I-frames and faster recovery time for your roll.
    I've gotta say guys, this "rusted iron ring" is looking pretty op next to all these rings.

      The lack of direction to where you are supposed to go next.Yes you know you are supposed to find the bells after talking, but you don't know how to get there or where it is.

    • @benc6046
      @benc6046 7 років тому +38

      1. O.K. The re-skin is a definite down for Dark Souls.
      2. If you don't know where to go, the go explore, now realize, that if you go to the graveyard the skeletons are incredibly difficult to handle so maybe you shouldn't go there yet, if you go down, you can't hit the ghosts, so maybe you should avoid the area, it didn't take me long to find where I needed to go, Dark Souls doesn't hold your hand it expects you to be smart and play smart.
      3. It's called pressing the select and X button, see that it tells you that select means explanation, so press it and you will find out what each of them do and for the Weapon stats you just press X and you find out what the stats are and what scales with what.
      The reason why I love Dark Souls is it's like the real world, they tell where to go but they don't tell you how to get there so you have to go on an ADVENTURE and QUEST! It's like the medieval times, you don't have a compass that points in the direction you need to go. It will NOT hold your hand and expects you to learn how to walk on your own. THAT is what makes this game great it doesn't tell you everything. Also, if you need help on something there is a HUGE community of players that are more than willing to help, like MatPat said, "There are dozens of tutorials to help you online". I'll be frank it took me over 100+ hours to beat the game my first time WITHOUT look at strategy guides and the thrill and accomplishment you get when you defeat an incredibly hard area or boss is just gratifying.

    -lol "the rusted iron ring is necessary" Ive played through the game tons of times and I forget it exists. Shows how important it is.
    -if you looked at the spell and item descriptions, you'd notice that pyromancy has no affiliation with the int stat at all
    -the humanity comment was pretty vague honestly he just sounded butthurt
    -I can honestly think of 1 enemy that makes you wait for some time before you can do anything but otherwise they are constantly come after you making all that waiting time actually time spent dodging and finding time for an opening rather than just swinging your weapon around randomly like a dumbass
    -the death by the giant is something ill actually call bs on seeing as the tracking on the bombs it throws is so bad that a bomb will land where you were standing like 10 seconds ago, plus if you look up you can see the giant pretty easily and find its blind spot
    Ultimately all I heard form the dark sucks side is "I want games to hold my hand through the whole thing. How dare you make me pay attention to the world and punish my mistakes?" Does the game have flaws? Absolutely, especially towards the end with the bed of chaos aka bed of bullshit which surprisingly wasn't mentioned at all leading me to believe that he hasn't actually finished this game. However, just because you had a hard time with the game that doesn't make it suck. If you aren't a fan of dark souls then thats totally fine since people just have differing opinions about things, but to attack it because of your short comings and blame the game for everything is just arrogant.

      And while he attacked the game, he was coherent and relatively objective for the most part, whereas you are resorting exclusively to personal attacks which makes you come across as butthurt, not him.
      Seriously, all your comment says is "Somebody hurt my precious! He's a fat, dumb, meanie mcmeanie and I don't like him!". If you're gonna be smug, at least pose a legitimate argument instead of nothing but insults and unfounded conjecture

I refuted his claims and occasionally questioned his credibility since I'm still pretty sure he hasn't completed it yet. I've played the game quite a bit so I'm aware of its flaws, but I can tell when someone just attacks the game without any solid reasoning.
      If you think my comment was just conjecture then I recommend reading it again, then reading yours, and finally quoting where I clearly just call him fat and stupid since I'm so butthurt.Also please tell me why what I said holds no water if you're convinced I'm so wrong.
      If you're a fan of his or a hater of dark souls that's fine, but don't just claim someone you don't agree with is spouting unfounded insults while you do the same. It makes you come off as butthurt, not me.

    • @EvilExcalibur
      @EvilExcalibur 8 років тому +2

      vidsman625 So just because I disagree with you I'm a fanboy and a hater? And you have the gall to say you don't use conjecture, whilst doing so in that very same comment...nice
      Here's the thing, you assuming that he hasn't finished the game is preposterous. He never reviews any games that he hasn't finished regardless of difficulty, hence Matpat's remark about him being "trapped in the game". Moreover, when you said that he was crying for a game that would hold his hand and implied that his playing style involves no more than button mashing was also nothing but poorly constructed bait. See, another staple of his show is the absolute completion of video games, regardless of how difficult and tedious it is, and that includes Dark Souls. No one as inane as what you suggested could possibly make that claim. And finally, you clearly haven't seen any of his videos, thus you know nothing of his skills as a gamer or his tenacity in the same regard, yet you still assume that his complaints are rooted exclusively in his own short comings as opposed to acknowledging his very legitimate points in reference to the video game's design, such as it being obtuse and deliberately uncooperative. Such as the talisman for example.
      And as a little bonus, the following lines are both clearly strawmen that you set up in order to feed your own ego and further demean your target.
      "-I can honestly think of 1 enemy that makes you wait for some time before you can do anything but otherwise they are constantly come after you making all that waiting time actually time spent dodging and finding time for an opening rather than just swinging your weapon around randomly like a dumbass"
      "-the death by the giant is something ill actually call bs on seeing as the tracking on the bombs it throws is so bad that a bomb will land where you were standing like 10 seconds ago, plus if you look up you can see the giant pretty easily and find its blind spot"
      On the latter for example you ignored the context and created your own, as in the debate the point of bringing that up was that he was killed by an out of sight enemy while the camera focused on another, not that he couldn't predict the trajectory of the projectiles.
      This is a very shameless tactic that simply hurts your own credibility, as does passing on the burden of proof as well as personally assaulting someone, both of which you seem to specialize at.
      Any questions?

    Umm... The Rusted Iron Ring is far from one of the most essential rings in the game. Granted, moving in the swamp water can be a pain without it, but even then, it's trivial if you know where to go and bring Purple Mosses and Blooming Purple Mosses just in case you get nailed by a blowdart sniper and get your blood ran toxic.
    The Rusted Iron Ring is certainly *helpful* in Blighttown and that water area in Darkroot Basin with the Hydra, but you can easily beat the game without the ring.
    Also... Technically, the DS1 does tell you (albeit indirectly) where to go, since, unless you're really good at the game or managed to get a blunt weapon or divine weapon, the skeletons in the graveyard leading to the catacombs will eat you for lunch because you're not meant to go down there until you meet the requirements to survive down there. It's the reason that if you go the road leading to the Undead Burg, you only have, like... Four or five super easy hollow enemies to contend with.
    It's the same as triggering that wyvern's appearance at the High Wall of Lothric in Dark Souls 3. You don't have to go up there unless you want the loot up there and it's a shortcut leading to a spot that you were going to go to anyway.
    At the end of the day... I like to think of Dark Souls as being like the Mr. Miyagi of video games.

    The Rusted Iron Ring is FAR from essential. And large portions? Are you kidding me? The only times the water is ever high enough to warrant using the ring is Blighttown and the Hydra fight in Darkroot Basin. Also, humanity being crucial? Yeah right. Yes it does affect your stats (i.e. item find and resistances) but only ever so slightly. The only real use for it is item find, which is more of a perk than a necessity. How NPCs treat you? Yeah, they have different dialogue towards you, but none of which affect anything at all. No quests, no different results, etc. And reverse engineering to figure out how it works? What are you even talking about? The game tells you about the important stuff, like using it to become human and how being human makes online play possible, while the smaller stuff like slight stat differences and item find can be easily observed by looking at your stat screen, popping a Humanity, and looking again to see what changes. Not that hard. Reverse engineering, my butt. Really the only good point he makes is the Tiny Being's Ring description, but A: that's such a small thing it's hardly warranting calling the game sloppy and B: it's a mistranslation, so it's not the game itself, but the team that did the translating. I feel like the "Dark Sucks" side of the debate was just scrounging for straws for their points. If you want to talk about something sloppy, it'd be that side of the debate.

After watching this video, i tried playing without it and sure getting to Quelaag and fighting the Hydra were a little tedious without it on, but it didn't make the game much more difficult. I like Jirard, and he might not even think this anymore, but ever thinking that the ring is needed for huge chunks of the game baffles me. Literally the only places it benefits you is blighttown swamp, gaping dragon boss fight (I think, but if not, you still didn't need it anyways), darkroot basin, and ash lake. Half of those things are optional side things anyway lol.

    There are many clues to the iron ring. You probably see in the tutorial area, the key is clue indicating that you should go back, the guy sitting in the shrine tells you to use the crow's nest, you can clearly see the staircase that lead to it and if you paid attention when using the scalator, you would notice the path

  • @erikasakura7721

    I hate the rusted iron ring argument, it is completely unnecessary, I have gotten it in every single playthrough I had but never used it because, even though it makes certain parts tedious, walking slow in water isn't that crippling, I think the placement of this ring is genius, it makes the water areas more convenient, but you have to really look everywhere to have that little boost in speed.
    Oh, also, Fighting is just block attack block attack, or run behind a boss and smack? Just don't fight that way. Dom't equip a shield and only dodge, fight bosses head on. Think the difficulty isn't that big, give yourself challenges, the argument "this game is too easy" is completely baseless in almost every game, because challenge can always be synthesized if you really want difficulty.

I went my whole first playthrough without even finding and never requesting the ability to walk faster through water. In my other 20 or so playthroughs, even after finding I never used it once because it was never that useful, especially compared to almost any other ring in the game. I know this was mostly a subjective argument, but come on. That's the best there is to argue that Dark Souls is a "broken game"?

I play games to have fun and yes while Dark Souls can most certainly be a fun and rewarding experience, there is no arguing that some stuff is just cheap and frustrating.

    The argument that bothered me the most in this was him complaining about the last boss being lackluster. I think he missed the whole plot, and the whole point of the boss fight. (Spoilers, by the way) The last boss fight against Gwyn was supposed to be anticlimactic, because this is a lord who has given up all of his power to postpone the inevitable: the end of the age of fire. He gave up his soul to the first flame and is now nothing more than a hollow. He's a husk of a god, who once slew immortal dragons by the thousands, and brought the age of fire. You expect this huge god, casting thunderbolts at you from
    above, but instead you're given this defeated shell of what was once a great lord, and is now no bigger than yourself, and can be parried like most of the basic enemies in the game. I know I'm just a huge lore nerd, but I found that to be a really powerful use of an anticlimax.

    Just to let both of you know, there are many English translations from the Japanese version of Dark Souls that were incorrect in what they were saying, that tiny beings ring is one of them, the translator didn't know how to translate it and simply guessed what it meant, so that is the fault of the translators no necessarily the teams fault.
    And being killed by the boulder in a sense was a cheap death BUT that is your OWN fault for not exploring the area around the fog gate, see the game taught you, trained you to go straight for the fog gate, and so because the fog gate at the Iron Golem was RIGHT IN FRONT of the spiral stair case leading to the giant that throws the boulder at you in the fight, you didn't pay attention to the other doorway and instead ran to the fog gate, which was their goal all along, this game punishes you for not exploring, and by this point in the game you will already have come across false walls and possibly mimics, so you should KNOW that this game is already trying to deceive you at every turn, and there are even some enemies that look harmless but ultimately have more than enough strength to put you down.

      Midnight Raven Because of people like you. You obviously didn't learn from your experiences and so you were punished. EVERYONE I've known figured out the chest trap. Yes, the first one catches you off guard - just like real life. Before you make that friend that stabs you in a back, does a little fairy pop up and tell you "Hey watch out! He might be dangerous!"? NO! You then LEARN from this experience, which it appears you didn't. You can attack the chest before you use it and know which one is a trap and which one isn't.
      As for the giant, that's simply being more aware of your surrounding. I don't know which giant you're talking about, but anything over 2 feet tall is loud as hell when they walk, were you playing without sound? And how would you suggest them make it easier? Most of your deaths are off of things you have to learn, if you don't die to them it completely defeats the purpose of the game.

      Midnight Raven I agree, everyone has different things that make a game fun to them. I don't really get frustrated playing games so the constant death only made me ache more with wanting to succeed, obviously everyone isn't this way and I understand full heartedly why someone would hate this game haha. I also agree with a few of the tricks, items shouldn't lie, but it was a translation error, they didn't actually mean to lie (in the case of the ring). Also that's dark souls 1, not dark souls 2 ;), but ya, I tried for like 10 minutes until my brain was just like 'Something is wrong dude' and I just ran around, I thought I was supposed to use an item or throw something at him but when I found the door I just smacked my face on the desk. But have fun with the rest of your high ;)

      @reed560 9 років тому

      Midnight Raven The Game Theorists Dispersia Morock What everyone failed to bring up is that everything discussed is at the beginning of the game. Dark Souls 1 and 2 are easy at the end. Painfully easy, I farm the giant lord at new game +7 because I can. If he hits me once I'm dead, but I saw his attacks since the release of the game. Its easy! That giant is cheap, you can't know that will happen, but then you try again and kill it and move on. Most of the bosses aren't necessarily the same, but most are incredibly underwhelming. For example, the Demon of Song. Who saw that and thought, this will be difficult. I killed him first try, almost perfectly. Dark souls has issues, yet the game teaches you things you apply to other games. People speed run these games in 6 hours. With just their fists. The game becomes the same after you understand the levels. The level design is good and all but once you understand it all, there's nothing more to need. The game is unfair, but there is no doubt that if you make it out by the hair of your chin, that its a good feeling. You got lucky, don't screw it up. I run around to do things that make the game harder, because after you know what your doing. What else is there? If learning things the hard way was a game, it would be Dark souls. The whole argument about "changing the game,". This is flawed because they just took the game and through stuff in there. The pendant doesn't add to the game, you just learn to not pick it. The DLC's are all cheap, nothing fair about it. Seriously, nothing. They make stuff just to screw you over. So, Dark Souls is a game series for Masochists OR for those dedicated enough to get to the easy part.

      The game is indeed unfair , quite often actually , but in the end you have to adapt to those rules.
      I recently bought the game and finished it , and now i am in the middle of a Sl1 run.And even though that i have adapted quite well in the game i can't help raging when an enemy auto corrects his direction to hit me , even if that requires the model to actually rotate more than 90 degrees towards me.
      I know that i can dodge him but i always fell that i shouldn't have to.

      And to be fair this is one of the most addicting game ,if not the most, i have ever played.
      Many games have caught my attention and made me play for hours each session, but Dark Souls is one of few games that kept me bolted to the chair until i bested that boss or passed that area ( i still haven't succeeded to parry Anor Londo's silver knights arrows ,i always dodge them).

    Dark souls has actually taught me to PAY attention. In most games I always am like "LEEROY JENKINS" and always die over and over and over. Then dark souls came and I did that, and rushed in, and died. I did understand the slow pace of the game and understood that to play the game I need to think, pay attention to what's around me and adapt to it, and finally, and just maybe, defeat everything.
    It took me over 200 hours to beat the game, and 150 of them were lost to a save file error. I was angry, I was FUCKING furious, but I loaded up a brand new one and started again, and come the end, I had never felt SO happy for beating a difficult game.

      And forgive my wall of text but, my last run was just a normal run and I beat it around SL75. Stat levels are primarily about "I need this number to use this thing." Don't worry about amassing power through leveling. There are easier ways. When all is said and done, if you have the extra souls to drop some points here and there, cool. If not, there are other ways to accomplish your objectives. But also learn to economize your soul use. If I am doing a faith build, I don't always need to drop 50 pts on Fai, 50 on Dex and 50 on Str. You are not getting your money (souls) worth. Diminished returns. One thing you could do in such a case is get STR/DEX just high enough to handle the weapon you want to use, ascend it to Divine and drop a bunch on FAI. This way, your FAI is scaling your divine weapon AND letting you access miracles. Economy.

However, after u take the time, u know what to do, u know where to dodge, attack, heal, etc. The whole argument about the slow combat also gets on my nerves. From an aesthetic stand point, back in medieval times that was how fights were fought. It wouldn’t make sense to have this big knight in heavy protective armor zooming around the arena. If it really bothers u, I recommend bloodborne, where combat is extremely quick and rewarding to an offensive play style.

      TheZeroSbr Also, only noobs just sit and wait with their shields up. Backstabbing is a thing, and the Shotel can go around shields. Don't sit there and tell me that the combat in Dark Souls sucks, because it doesn't.
      That said, Gerard has a lot of good points about the BS in Dark Souls. The whole "revisit Undead Asylum" thing is so out of the way and stuffed into a corner that I doubt people found out that you could go back until someone opened up the game and found the coding/assets for the other boss there.
      The fact that you need to exploit a glitch to get out of certain stunlocks (toggle your weapons at the right time) is BS. The way the invasion system is handled is BS. And there are parts of the landscape geometry that are just poorly done. Darkroot Garden, for example, has several floating trees and small bushes/trees that are clearly unintended. That's just laziness.
      The geometry itself can screw you over, since certain parts are angular for whatever reason, and it can make you fall or otherwise impede your movement. There's an example of the latter in Darkroot Garden, and there are plenty of examples of the former in Blighttown.

      I also didn't get the ring until after the swamp so in my eyes Gerard's point is totally irrelevant.
      I do agree that the stats and items could be better explained and have better means of comparison.

    • @TheZeroSbr
      @TheZeroSbr 9 років тому

      theTYTAN3 The crow being there made me think "huh, maybe I can talk to him, or he'll do something for me" at first, but then I gave up after a while since there didn't seem to be a way to get to him. And then when I found out the whole elevator/rolling to the pillar, I facepalmed. Even if you know where to go, the roll to the pillar can't be done if you're playing at 60fps. I shouldn't have to cap myself at 30, even if it can be done in-game. The engine just sucks.
      It still has a lot of redeeming features, and those keep me playing. I just wish they would retool it, but I know I'll just have to wait for DS3 to come out.

    • @theTYTAN3

      The jump can't be made at 60 fps? why? I'm genuinely confused.

    • @TheZeroSbr
      @TheZeroSbr 9 років тому

      theTYTAN3 Jump is affected by fps. I don't know why, but DS2 has something similar with its durability for a while. Playing at 60 fps would make things break twice as fast.

      Gilgamesh its mainly used in the hydra battle, which is fully optional and reaps no real rewards if you dont used dragon scales or want to play the dlc, and blight town, which is a small, but painstaking segment of the total game. it truly is a weak argument, similarly the the tiny beings ring and the pyromancy. if you look in the item menu it will LITRERALY tell you that 0 int and 0 fth are needed for the spells. Another augment busted.

    I like the combat the most of dark souls because of it's repeativeness. Since the combat doesn't change you are rewarded with what you learn and know. The combat also focuses you to learn and examine close wind ups and details. Real life fights focus on you protecting yourself and learning other people's patterns and wind ups. This makes the combat immersive. Also due to the amount of attacks an enemy has that goes out of order, every fight feels different.

    Rusted Iron ring is not important. At all. It's more of a buff than it is an essential item. All it allows you to do is run normally in water. Calling the combat repetitive is a shallow analysis considering use of environment is an option. Take Sens fortress. You can lure enemies into the same traps you're faced with. Secondly, you're giving multiple options when faced with combat. Take offense. How will you attack? R1 or R2. Okay now what. Is the enemy doing a predictable attack? Why not anticipate this and backstep R1. Maybe I should parry the attack
    Or two hand the weapon dodge it and do more damage. Hell, why use a sword. I got 100s of other weapons with diverse movesets. Saying DS combat is waiting to attack is true, but ignores the details. That's not poor design, that's a poor argument. Also, humanity hard to comprehend? What's to comprehend. Humanity allows for PvP and co-op. It also restores hp. That's its only use, hardly anything one needs to know on first play through. The only argument worth note is the starting ring with false information. Its probably a typo and is a small flaw. But there's the keyword. Small. Hardly worth calling the game sloppy. I feel like the only arguments presented against dark souls in this video were highly misinformed.

    • @ImJakeFromStateFarm
      @ImJakeFromStateFarm 9 років тому +65

      As for the ending, that is highly subjective and depends on how intrigued you were by the narrative. Personally I love each ending. It gets the point across that neither ending is grand or important. The entire theme of the game is the inevitable end of all things, including the Age of Fire and Age of Man. To say the ending is lackluster as one of your main arguments is not very smart. This isn't a fact. There is no hard evidence to this claim. You can't make an argument based solely on preference.

      ImKylin Let me continue your sweet arguments. At the end, when he says the game doesn't give you the detailed information about the itens, and that people needs to hack the game to find out the exact stats of the itens. Well... in life, do you know how much of defense has a shield or how much of atack has a crowbar? do you know how much hitpoint do you lose when you stamble? that's the point... the game tries to hide the actual numbers so you will choose your equipment after you actually use it, try them all, and make you aproximate judgment... just like in real life.

And when the Game Grumps played Demon’s Souls (which has very similar combat to Dark Souls), Arin (aka Egoraptor) said that the things he said about 3D Zelda combat in Sequelitus didn’t really apply to Demon’s Souls. Arin loved the combat in Demon’s Souls

      This black sprite is called humanity, but little is known about its true nature. If the soul is the source of all life, then what distinguishes the humanity we hold within ourselves?
      so you figured out without the internet that this item, increases defence stats, makes some weapons way more powerful, heals you, makes people invade you, is farmable from rats, and is used in later quests for shortcuts better keep hold of it. and don't say the NPCs tell you because they can also lie to you.

      No, that's exactly the right word for it. Intelligent. It's fairly obvious. The item description tells you it's for online. Also, what elijah said. The only one that's fairly hidden is the Chaos covenant shortcut, which you would eventually figure out if you bothered to level your covenants. Every cheap death in this game is avoidable, either by being good at the game, or exploring your surroundings well. Use your head man, it doesn't take a genius.
