On the issue of pronunciation of Balao, personally I've always thought of it as bah-low, similar to allow, but having Jingles mention it in this vid got me wondering so a-googling I went. As for the fish it was named after, looking at various dictionary, wiki and online pronunciation sources that seems to fall squarely in the bah-low camp. As for the fleet sub, that seems to be split between bah-low (Drachinifel pronounces it that way for example) and bah-lay-oh, and I found an old thread from '07 on the subsim forums discussing this very topic with the camps being about evenly split between both pronunciations, with one guy claiming his WW2 vet dad and his friends pronounced it bah-lay-oh. My guess is that when the sub got introduced, the submariners didn't know how to pronounce the name of a small bait fish (and why would they tbh), started mispronouncing it and that mispronunciation became commonplace enough that these days all the armchair admirals are "Well ackshually"-ing over hearing the correct pronunciation. So, in short ladies and gentlemen, I present you with Dave the submarine.
Bah-low is close enough. It's a nasaled diphthong in the original Portuguese (balão), so you should add an "m" at the end, so more like: bal-om[ega]. The "a" sound can go both ways: a "u" sound like in "up" (PT-PT), or an "ah" sound like "at" (if given a Brazilian intonation).

The video was at 30 Seconds when the Match started....
And the Match took the whole 20 min...
And there was a 50 sec "outro" AFTER the match ended...
=> Video should be at least 21:20 min long.
So how in the hell is the video only 19:56 min long?
The U.S. submarine service has some interesting pronunciations. They do indeed pronounce Balao as Buh-lay-oh. Gato is Gay-toh. Submariner is sub-mareen-er.
I play this build from time to time. You won't carry a game. And the thing that annoys me is the constant "1234" dmg on single salvos.
LoL. That was very entertaining to watch. One of those you think you could, but you can’t kind of videos 😎👍
I like a modified version of the line you said. "Close only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, and nuclear weapons."
How about ‘close only counts in horseshoes and all kinds of explosives (except for shaped charges and HESH where it’s really important)’?
this reminds me of the frenchman on the castle wall in Monty Python, "Now we shall Taunt you for a second Time!"
Started the battle with 4 charges of the repair party.
Used one earlier, used a second, and had 2 charges left.
"He's used his heal for the first time."
Never change you old bastard.
I’ve been running this build on my Henri, just not to this extreme degree.
I run that same exact build. It is brilliantly hilarious
Damn, that's like stripping off, painting yourself in woad, and charging into battle - naked to the world, and *all* eyes are on you!
Ballsy (heh!) but impressive as hell if you can pull it off.
*Happy Gallic chanting*
If you look up the movie "Down Periscope", you see a crew tasked with taking on the US Nuclear navy in Balao Class.
It's a hoot.
WHAT
IS IN
THESE CANS, BUCKMAN
Run this build in the Italian cruiser line all the time - I don't think I'm unique in that regard by any means. The smoke generator gives you a get-out-of-jail-free card that you don't get in the Frenchies tho.
Good video, as always. Tough that constant sound whenever he got different speeds was highly annoying.
And here we see a French pseudo destroyer cause why not
Yes it is Ba Lay O for USS Balao. At least that is the way it was pronounced in the movie "Down Periscope". (A funny naval movie I highly recomend)
Ok, but this is the ship that you take down the middle at two brothers.
Loved this one!
The 'same' machine. Ok, Jingles
