How cool!. I served on a Forest Sherman, the USS Morton DD 948. The 5" 54 cal guns were quite fast, close to 40 rpm. They had dual loaders that fed from the left then the right. This was simplified to one loader that fed from the left side only on later class ships built in the sixties, but the FS DDs kept the feature. Also had 2 3" 50 cal twin mounts, a Hedgehog launcher forward and 2 sets of torpedo tubes. We did 33 1/2 knots on a high speed run, but it shook rather noticibly at that speed. How fun to have one in game
It is cool, World of Warships had an Anchors Away tour in 2019 on a Forrest Sherman class DD 951 Turner Joy Museum Ship here in Bremerton Washington . Was reading most FS ships were converted in the 60's except Turner Joy & one other , They were the last DD gunboats that the US had and had saw action in Vietnam & was actually hit by ground artillery....& yes , even on the real ship thought the torpedoes were setup Uniquely . Never served but was born and raised on US Naval bases and my Dad was a 22 year navy BT on Gearing class dd & others.
@@Fendermender49 The conversion consisted of removing Mount 52 and replacing it with an Asroc launcher which gave them a nuclear capability. The 3 in guns and the hedgehog were removed. The torpedo tubes were replaced by trainable triple tube launcers for the smaller Mk 46 torpedo. A very large sonar dome was added in the bow. The depth charge racks on the fantail were replaced by a Variable Depth Sonar and a towed array. There were a few that were converted to DDGs by removing Mount 53 and adding a single Tarter AAW launcher. These did not get the VDS or Sonar upgrades.
The strange torpedo tube arrangement is historically accurate for the class as built. The fixed tubes were used with homing torpedoes, which are not on the ship in-game.

12:30 Yes, that is really happening, I was watching this "live"(I watched Flambass's clip from his livestream on his channel). The guns are firing every roughly 0.8 seconds consistently. For some perspective of how much DPM this ship can put out, that's 225 shells per minute.
Fun fact, we were discussing that on Flambasses video and some ex german navy gunner commented that, in theory, his 76mm gun was able to fire at 85 rounds per minute...

Fantastic ship, but instead of a third turret, we had the Standard SM1 missile. 33.9 kts is BS, HMAS Hobart topped out at 36.9 on her last day at sea, at nearly 40 years old.

Despite of "fun" aspect of 8in guns, the reload on these guns is terribly slow (like 12 rpm). WG can make them work with super accuracy, range and dmg per shell, but i think it will be frustrating at close range.

868 shells fired between the three guns surely fictional ammunition capacity right? Nope the Forrest Sherman carried 450-500 rounds per gun so even with it's insane rate of fire it really can fire that many shells.
the fictional part is those 1500 shells, each containing 3.5kgs of TNT equivalent explosive D, dont count as a citadel. also a ship would carry many kinds of shells for different purposes. generally the majority of the shells ww2 destroyer carried were AA shells, rather than the special common anti-ship shells. firing 900 anti-ship shells is definitely fictional. An AA shell could be used against a ship, but it was certainly not preferred.

This means the three single mounts on the Forrest Sherman have the same rate of fire as the three twin 5-inch 38-cal mounts on the Gearing. Moreover, these were the first U.S. destroyers to carry a 5-inch 51-cal dual purpose gun, which had significantly more hitting power than the 5-inch 38-cal. However, for various reasons, the 5-inch 38-cal was the better anti-aircraft gun, the 5-inch 51-cal being much better against surface targets, especially when firing SAP. Secondary armament consisted of two twin 3-inch 50-cal. gun mounts, each with its own radar fire control director. The twin 3-inch 50-cal was a one-for-one replacement for the quad 40mm Bofors, which was considered too light to deal with the Kamikaze threat and stand-off guided missiles. The torpedo tubes were retained because, well, destroyers are supposed to have torpedoes. These were fixed 21-inch tubes that were supposed to carry a wire-guided homing torpedo that never made it out of the lab. Eventually, these tubes were beached and replaced by two tripe 13-inch Mk.32 torpedo tubes for the Mk.46 lightweight ASW homing torpedo. The Forrest Sherman also carried a Mk.11 Hedgehog forward-firing ASW mortar, which seems to have been overlooked. Many later carried an 8-round ASROC launcher in place of the midships 5-inch gun. It should also be noted that four Forrest Shermans were converted to guided missile destroyers (DDGs), with a Tatar surface-to-air missile launcher in place of the No.2 gun. Until 2015, one ship in the class, the USS Barry (DD 933) was berthed as a museum ship at the Washington Navy Yard. When the District of Columbia decided to replace an existing moveable bridge with a fixed bridge below the Navy Yard (which would have made it impossible to get the ship into a dry dock), the Barry was unceremoniously sold and scrapped.

a note on the reload "feature" any reduction, that would be more than 1/7th a second is worth it, technically any reduction that moves over the X/7 breakpoint is worth it.
I laugh a little when Jingles talk about a ship having so many handicaps and short comings. And then the person driving the ship and playing the match seems to make the best of a bad ship, and they kick some serious tush!!
I've just recently started playing and still suck so I tend to stay in co-op so as not to cause the " Death by 1000 Potatoes" to my team that I often see on this channel. Saying that I am hoping to one day be able to send in one myself. Hope you get yours shown soon! Good luck!
@@schroedingerscat2.054 Coop only re-inforces bad habits. Yolo-ing, rushing, thinking players have dodgy prioritization like bots have. Zero incentive to get map control, to spot or to defend, only to get your shots out and take no damage in return. A lot of the bad play you see nowaday is coop infused play. Coop is however useful to get a feel for a ships maneuverability and allows you to experiment with crazy shit, and as such does help raising familiarity with the ship itself, but it won't teach you the skills needed to do good in randoms.

looked like a anti aircraft gun when his reload time went down to 2 seconds and he chewed them up big time and killed most of the enemy team alone that was a awesome battle to watch
honestly anti ship missiles wouldn't surprise me, but the only upside is they wouldn't be really OP considering BBs and the such still have armor to thick for them to Pen they're designed to damage the lightly armored hulls of modern ships not the super thick armor of WW2 BBs and cruisers
When a Sherman gets that kind of reload, what's the counter play in a BB or a DD 😂. Just sit there and accept that you shouldn't have clicked the battle button and go play another game.
Bear in mind the FS is SLOW by DD standards, so provided your teammates (or more likely your division mates), just focus him down and if he doesn't pop smoke they are most likely dead. BBs load HE, Cruisers and DDs load HE or SAP, maybe some cheeky AP hits on his broadside. But yeah, that is a terrifying rate of fire from 3 guns that can turn 360 and has both HE and SAP, they are MADE to kill DDs. Same with the Austin and soon to be San Diago, except they have a reload booster gimmick so their fire rate isn't grate.
@@CS-zn6pp only counter to that is if he dosent run an anti detonation flag and your one shell that hits and overpenetrate, blows the whole ship out of the water. and whats the chance of that?

Well the Smaland already has cruise missiles modeled on it. Post war of course torp angles weren't really needed, since wire guided torpedoes had become a thing, so you could launch, guide it onto the right bearing, release it to go into final acquisition and the self guidance system takes care of the rest.
I've played my last game this morning. Being focused by a CV and a sub when you're in a battleship with no way of fighting back was pathetic. I'm done.

Forrest Sherman is a very situational ship, but when you get that situation, my god it absolutely melts targets. F Sherman is very very very dependent the brain of the player. The torps are meme torps.
Comically there's a reason why the forest torpedoes tubes have such limited fireing arcs. They weren't Anti-ship torpedoes, it carried the "then new" Mark 35 torpedo deep diving anti-submarine torpedo, 2 per side. Eventually it was replaced with mk 46 triple tube launchers, 3 per side, but they were 323mm lightweight torps.

You failed to notice most pequliar thing in WoWs, which speaks volumes. The damage of the torpedo launchers. He got 2 busted, 2 out of opposite sides when they tubes lie side by side. And thats done by one salvo... Wargaming has a fairy to determine the damage, not even RNG
Should point out that two of the ships in this class still exist in the US and both are museums. USS Edson and USS Turner Joy
My day isn't complete without a jingles video.
this video made me get the Forrest Sherman - no regrets, what a fun ship!
Jingles, if you ever get across the pond, and find yourself in Washington State, you can visit the U.S.S. Turner Joy.
She's the only surviving Forrest Sherman Class DD in the world. She's a museum located in Bremerton WA.
Cheers.
DD-951 USS Turner Joy is not the last surviving Forrest Sherman. DD-946 USS Edson is a museum up at the Saginaw Valley Naval Ship Museum in Michigan.
@@MrZcar350 Cool, I didn't know that. Thanks for the info.
Judging by the direction this game is heading, missiles wouldn't really be surprising tbh
The reload booster definitely triggered, it went from 1, 2, 3, pause, 1, 2, 3, pause to a more steady 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8....
I cant wait to get this ship honestly. seems hella fun
a note on the reload "feature" any reduction, that would be more than 1/7th a second is worth it, technically any reduction that moves over the X/7 breakpoint is worth it.
I laugh a little when Jingles talk about a ship having so many handicaps and short comings. And then the person driving the ship and playing the match seems to make the best of a bad ship, and they kick some serious tush!!
Love the video. I submitted one of mine and I love that you never know if it's gonna be your replay featured next. So exciting.
@@schroedingerscat2.054 the fact that you know it might be a bit rough at first is already a huge step. Its a game, no one really cares so just go for it! :)
@@schroedingerscat2.054 just play randoms, and don't worry about learning, we all need to.
the most satisfying videos to see every day :p
The rate of fire with the Bull Halsey skill is absolutely shocking!
I like it!
Thanks for sharing Paul,
Cheers
WoWs - Run, Forrest, Run!

Rear Admiral Giggles
Rear Admiral Babbles
Another good video.
Nice to see Fambass still in the game - And on anther scale all the best with move ,have done five and only had little damage .
Thank you jingles, I love you dearly
O.O Am shocked to see a vid drop today with Jingles moving.. Ya a birthday treat for me :D
In the midst of a world gone mad...I have found a little naval combat very...soothing. Thanks guys.
Jingles, regarding the Zieten, you always say, that chick's dig scars and glory last forever. That's certainly what the Zieten was thinking of.
The artist formerly known as Flambass
looked like a anti aircraft gun when his reload time went down to 2 seconds and he chewed them up big time and killed most of the enemy team alone that was a awesome battle to watch
down to 1 sec, not 2 sec 😁
your videos makes me coming back to this game :)
Flambass doin'it again.
honestly anti ship missiles wouldn't surprise me, but the only upside is they wouldn't be really OP considering BBs and the such still have armor to thick for them to Pen they're designed to damage the lightly armored hulls of modern ships not the super thick armor of WW2 BBs and cruisers
Jingles...thought you are packing and moving. Appreciate the video. cheers
Hope you are doing well in your new house, Jingles!
That's pretty much how I feel every time I get shot at by a Sherman in Rank. 🤣
BB's don't have a counter play for much atm....
@@CS-zn6pp only counter to that is if he dosent run an anti detonation flag and your one shell that hits and overpenetrate, blows the whole ship out of the water. and whats the chance of that?
That's how I play all my games, watching a video, enjoying some good views on my ships and don't caring at all for the game. Still end up on the top three players in most games I don't die immediately.
WoWS is just a really shitty game.
Once you learn it you can absolutely melt someone with it easily. Torpedoe angles are absolutely horrible. With adrenaline rush you can get reload down below 1 second.
Flambass just showing off ;P
happy moving in day Jingles !
6:03
It's a shame WG didn't keep this in mind for poor old HMS Tiger...
ALL tier 10 ships SHOULD have a high skill level requirement.
Thanks Jingles. Hope your move goes well.
Replay is a Forrest Sherman replay
"Today it is sailed for us by Montanaprincess"
Hey! I've seen this one before! Classic!
I had forgotten that he had been coerced into changing his name to MontanaPrincess even after he begged to have a different one for several minutes (That on its own was worth the admission price).... still insane guns
Ah yes, the Mk 42 5"/54 gun. Autoloading with two 20-rd loading drums. Up to 40 rounds/min.
That reload ability definitely kicked in cause his reload dropped to 0.7 seconds 😆 🤣
Its a fantastic DD in my opinion and fun ! have not had this much fun sitting down in ages...
LMAO! I commented on His vid to send this to you! It's worth it!
and if I remember correctly, this was his FIRST game in this ship :o) our Flambino can be scary sometimes :o)
I was waiting for the moment that Jingles was gonna say FLAMBASS. The King of The Gnomes does not disappoint!
So the Forrest Sherman is the Destroyer version of a Worcester. Sit behind an island, spam a dickload of small shells and shoot down planes.
Thanks Jingles.
I can sleep now knowing a Jingles video dropped. thank you oh gracious gnome lord
Jingles naming Halland as the epitome of gunboats instead of Smaland? Never change my guy.
weird flex but ok
Can’t wait for the Spruance Class
I love the little cat ears on the turrets
Well the Smaland already has cruise missiles modeled on it. Post war of course torp angles weren't really needed, since wire guided torpedoes had become a thing, so you could launch, guide it onto the right bearing, release it to go into final acquisition and the self guidance system takes care of the rest.
Yeah i think Flambass has a reasonably high skill level lol
A new Dakka ship. I love quick firing ships like this, primarily because I can’t aim.
The shell arcs are very good on this ship too for 5" guns.
This ship is "a dream to someone, a nightmare to others" (Excalibur)
I've played my last game this morning. Being focused by a CV and a sub when you're in a battleship with no way of fighting back was pathetic. I'm done.
yep. but weegee won't miss you. or me. or anyone. there are more suckers coming in every day.
@@Joe-sn6ir I know. I’ve been playing since launch and to see the game degrade like this is upsetting. I stopped WOT about 5 years ago due to the “if it’s not Russian you lose” it’s a shame. Both games were excellent when launched but I just can’t deal with the crap anymore.
Hope your move went smoothly yesterday but alas with your luck some calamity must have ensued. Hugs and Sighs, A Loyal Viewer
must be nice to be able to allot so much time to learn specs of ships. sadly, i have to work for a living. this is why i went to coop. but now even that is crap. haven't played in a while, but still enjoy jingles commentary. for the most part.
"feels more like a light cruiser than a destroyer" well, it IS a cold-war DD, and US destroyers from the cold war through the modern era have all been effectively CL displacement. Power creep is a thing IRL, not just in games XD
Just got home and in time for a Jingles upload, awesome! Time to get all comfy :)
Edit: 12:08 Jesus Mary, now that is some AMERICAN Rate of Fire right there baby!
Hey Jingles. 👋
I am a DD main and LOVE this ship.
Because I know its potential, I tend to keep some distance before I know for sure it is a potato.
this ship will teach you how to play this game properly using the hard way, I am a newbie in this game and my first tier 10 was the petro (I didn't know it was op before I got it lol don't hate on me) , most my games with the petro had a damage around 40-60k, 2 days ago I got my first coal ship, it was the Sherman, after playing it for 2 days, I went back to play the petro a bit and I pulled a 144k damage game right away, playing the Sherman is so hard it makes you really FEEL how easy it is to play any other ship, the slightest fuck up and you're dead.
I’ve actually visited her sister ship the USS Edson docked in Bay City in my home state of Michigan!
I like how the guns going off at full rate sounds kinda like the stomping sound from Queens, "We Will Rock You".
Happy Moving Day. Everyone watch the adds today Jingles needs the money.
Forrest Sherman is a very situational ship, but when you get that situation, my god it absolutely melts targets. F Sherman is very very very dependent the brain of the player. The torps are meme torps.
Flambass+Jingles ... this needs some tag team games :)
YAY a Video, means the mpve must have went well Jingles??? And always a pleasure to watch A Flambass battle with The Legendary Gnome Overlord on Commentary
I decommissioned one of those DD-950 Richard S Edward in 1982 as part of the last crew
The Migthy Jingles
is making French love to Flambass! This one went completely crazy😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I love Akazuki saying "really"? at the beginning.
I got her last week... 10 battles 4 victories 40% highest score so far 52,000. Definitely a hard ship to play. The 3 torp hits I got were because of fire and forget and hope they stay sailing straight and run into them. Its true you feel like youre sail in mud the ship is so sluggish. They really should give her the homing torps like in real life.
I watched Flambass' original UA-cam video on this battle. The really amazing thing is this was the very first game he ever played in the Forrest Sherman. Think about that when you ask if he is any good or not.
Enjoy your move day Jingles.
12:10 Swiches firemode from 3-round-burst to full-auto
Unspoken point: Ships like this make it even more apparent that there's no point in playing battleships past tier 7 anymore.
