They're definitely working on it. If they weren't, they are now. This collection got coverage on CNN from the guy that's literally fixing their last game, Capcom listens. Remember, they had that survey and we're literally seeing the fruits of that. The fgc took that survey to heart after max and Matt covered it
I remember half a year ago when Max was joking that MVC coming back was nearly impossible, he was resigned they he did his best and it was never coming back. We are in such a better place now lol.
The golden age of fighting games was the nineties. I don't care how good it gets, you don't understand how popular they were then. They were half of all games for awhile. Right now they are like 3% of all games.
Man, I played the hell out of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and I loved every second of it. Got the DLC and everything, too. Even took it to play during rainy days on the beach with a friend - we played the treasure hunt mode in co-op and it was a ton of fun... My main was Lee Chaolan/Violet.
There was a Mortal Kombat collection of the first 3 games on PlayStation Network on the PS3. I only know because I used to go through the PS store every week back in the day.
I’m on Switch and I can confirm that you can definitely find matches other than MVC2 on the collection. Literally lastnight I got a couple of matches of COTA, MVC1 and X-men v street fighter. Ps. I can also confirm that the Juggernaut glitch update has NOT hit the Switch yet. Pss. I can now confirm the update is out on Switch!!
I FORGOT how much I loved the arcade version of X-Men vs Street Fighter because of how dumpy the PS version was. That's been my hero of the collection so far.
As a casual player, I *loved* Tekken Tag 2. It had a huge amount of characters and you could add your own custom music to it which was a lot of fun. My friend Shannon and I played it endlessly and had a ton of fun. Never knew it was so hated by pro players. Weird.
1:33 Probably Mew2King with Melee is the ONLY comparison I can think of. Seeing as he was the father of a lot of character data in that game actually being documented with him just... Buttoning down and developing an insane level of knowledge and figuring out what characters could do.
When it comes to TTT2 not selling enough, this is gonna be a controversial take but it reflects the challenges of 2D and 3D fighting games unable to co-exist. When Tekken first exploded in the mid to late 90s alongside other games like Virtual Fighter, Soul Calibur, and Dead or Alive, it came at the expense of 2D fighting games like Street fighter no longer being in the mainstream and heck even MK going from 2D to 3D happen in the same time. But with SF4 resurrected the fighting game genre, 2D fighting games became popular again but in the late 2000s to the mid-2010s those same 3D fighting game series I mentioned became to lose popularity and now Tekken is the only one of the big 3D franchises that manage to maintain momentum and popularity.
It feels so vindicating to finally get to play these games against other FGC peeps after spending so much of my youth practicing execution by my lonesome since I managed to miss out on the PS3 port of MVC2 due to my lack of disposable income as a young'un (my childhood friend tried his best to indulge my passion for fighters back then, but Vampire Savior were the only fighter that I managed to get him to feel genuinely invested in learning, which, granted, were a pretty dang great game to pick if he had to choose only one).
I love the matches on COTA, i always think im gonna get whopped but the matches are pretty fair, usually in my favor since i already had somewhat of an understanding of the mechanics from playing some fightcade
True on the Switch version. I bought one first for PS4 (played on PS5). First day, matches were good and people were getting sweatier by the hour, sometimes you get a slogfest of MSP and MSS. Second day, some matchmaking delays here and there but generally still has good matches. Third day, OK we're hitting something here. I ended up watching YT videos while waiting for some matches. Then a few days later I bought it on my Switch OLED and I was like, holy sh*t matchmaking is getting fast here. I tried the others like COTA and MSH, and man I still got good frequency of matches. Granted, it'll come down soon and maybe it'll slow down on a comparable parity with PS and PC matchmaking, but still, I think Switch is where you can get more matches because of the sheer number of its casual playerbase.
I personaly don't have an issue that it's "just" the arcade versions, since I dunno what the console versions had to offer to beginn with, even in the Collection 2 next year, SF3 Upper is like the only exeption where I know what I'm missing out but that's only a few characters (I think) and Dramatic Battle... I know there is also a World Tour mode and shit ton of other stuff which I never played myself tho.
15:09 The danger room might just be my favorite stage in all of COTA. Avalon is a close 2nd, though. I think the only stage I didn't care for that much was the Savage Lands. Thank God Wolverine gets a better stage than that in MSH.
Another great episode, gents! Can't wait to play the Marvel/Capcom games again...in November. Seriously, I hate how Capcom staggered the physical release: it seems obvious they're trying to convince players to double-dip, which I'm not gonna do. I'm not an online player so I don't need to worry about dwindling playerbases or anything, but I figure that could also inadvertently penalize physical-only purchasers, too. I hope they don't do that with CFC2 since I don't wanna have to wait that much longer for CvS2. I've been playing the PS2 port on my PS3 for far too long...
The only person I can think of with a similar amount of expertise of a fighting game, especially one with a huge roster, is Knee. You can almost expect Knee to make True Tekken God rank with every character with each Tekken release. And when deciding which character to play competitively, the whole roster is in his holster.
What if…WHAT IF…the next MvC ends up being Marvel vs Capcom vs SNK? I mean, if people had a bad experience with Infinite, this would be a sure fire way to erase any bad mojo. Plus, can you imagine that announcement trailer. Talk about a dream scenario!
That discussion about not including console-exclusive stuff really bummed me out. I fucking loved playing World Tour Mode and [Reverse] Dramatic Battles in SFA3 growing up, and it sounds like Capcom will never release another version of the game with that stuff in it. I'm sure it'll play great in the upcoming collection, no input delay and all that, but MAN, that extra content is so fucking fun. I get it'll be expensive and take too long to develop a version that has it and is still arcade perfect, but it genuinely sucks I can't have an updated, legal version of that anytime soon.
Bloody Roar 2 secret boss Long also is a one chance and you're done fight. Uranus from Bloody Roar Primal Fury/Extreme is too, but that's because she's the boss of the survival mode.
MVC2 actually just got patched, fixing the Juggernaut glitch and matchmaking problems -pretty funny how the podcasts are always just behind the news. Maybe switch to Wednesday or Thursday at this rate lol
When it comes to this collection, the arcade roms tweaked the way they did em here, was rhe best decision. However, when to comes to the alpha series (2 and 3); i rather they went with the Saturn or PSP ports.
Since they already allowed the cytorak glitch to be turned on or off, I wish they implemented at least a switch for MvsSF to have Hyper combo to hyper combo cancels with a single character as well.
One other thing that really hurt Tekken Tag 2 was that it had on disc completed DLC- and it was only a couple months after Street Fighter x Tekken got roasted for the same thing.
The arcade version of SVC Chaos doesn't have a cap of how many quarters you can put in. The reason you have limited continues is cause they're using the AES rom

They completely remade vf5 for PS4. Not remastered, it was a remake, so it's valid to have skipped over that I feel. It's gotten love, it's just still just as niche as it ever was in the west
I would've paid 40 - 50 for a Dreamcast version of MVC2 standalone. All the other ones meh, I'll take the arcade version lol. The Dreamcast version is so badass because it encouraged you to play it and learn characters because you unlock stuff. It is something that smash bros does better than everyone other fighting game. Justin is just built different. Those who know, know. For those who have a problem getting whooped on MvC2 might want to find another game. That or toughen up and get better. It should be a motivating factor to go up against Justin. It shows you how far you have to go.
I think the whole "which fighting collection is better" isn't as clear-cut as Max says, and even he's gotta admit, there's a personal bias there. As somebody who grew up in Latin America, SVC was waaaaaaay bigger than MVC since SNK and KOF were so much more popular over there than in the US. SVC was like the IMPOSSIBLE crossover and had way more hype around it than MVC ever did. So yeah, for me (and I bet many others) collection 2 is the actual hype one... MVC is eh. Besides, Collection 2 has freaking Rival Schools 2, dude.
Am I the only one here who would not at all mind if Capcom made a Marvel Superheroes 2025, with every character featured up to infinite, and some new ones?
I’ll never forgive the Tekken fanbase for letting TAG 2 fail like that. It was the last game to get so much love and attention from devs and it was fun as hell. Then we got T7, nearly devoid of all personality, and that becomes the best selling one. 🤦🏻♂️
