Ex-Project M Dev here, always great to see people outside of general smash circle talk about it and some of the history so long after the shut down. As a little treat of an info that isn't very widely known; back when Disney Interactive still existed, they contacted us in the PM Dev Team with the idea of making Disney Smash Bros. We even did a skype call with them (though I didn't participate), but not that long after that the studio was shut down, which I guess explains why there was no follow up. Small correction about Brawl: Sora ltd. is Sakurai's company, which he set up after leaving HAL Labs to make it easier for companies to work with him. HAL Labs is still around as a company as a Nintendo partner making mainly some really nice and cozy Kirby games. Brawl's dev team was indeed mostly GameArts people but Sakurai has said that there were people from many companies there, but I don't think that anyone from HAL worked on the game. Also, Smash Ultimate is technically on a handheld.☝

Two platform fighters they didn't mention: Digimon Rumble Arena 2 and Battle Stadium D.O.N. Digimon Rumble Arena 2 is amazing! You can notice the jank (combos are really short) and the general collect orbs to win thing is such BS, that i find crazy people complain about Play Station All Stars but not this lol. Still a great game overall. What i would give for these two games to get a sequel or a re release port... Great episode you four!
With a core sense of the definition could Joust be considered a platform fighter if you decided to do 1v1 while the AI was putting obstacles. The lava pits on the bottom left and right of the stage was also death so maybe?
The outfoxies was so hybrid and weapon based that is more like a 2D Arena Fighting/Shooter with platforms than a platform-fighter, like a Metal Slug VS Mode with healthbars. Digimon Rumble Arena 2 All joking aside, the game's not bad but it's also not remarkable outside of being a decent licensed game, I just realized that DRA2 is probably one of the few platform fighters released for the og xbox. Another funny thing about Digimon is that it has more than one platformer fighter series, along with Rumble Arena there's also the Battle Spirit series which was on both the Wonderswan and GBA. There's also All-Satr Rumble but that seems to fall more into the Power Stone/Arena style of gameplay
Fun episode! As a big Cartoon Network fan, it's awesome to see how well MultiVersus turned out compared to CN's OTHER platform fighter, Punch Time Explosion (which I hoped would be talked about on this episode as well)
The 90’s & 00’s were the golden age of platform fighting games. And is still fun even to this day especially when wise gamers like Justin, Max, and others keep it alive.

I will always remember the super smash bros commercial on n64 I love it, like matt said i seen and and said i gotta get it and i remember getting it for Christmas 99
If you're a Smash Bros fan and were born in the 90s or grew up in the 90s, you've gotten the true Smash Bros experience. NASB could've been a potentially rival to Smash Bros if Nickelodeon backed the first game. Unfortunately, Nickelodeon doesn't see the potential in the NASB series. Multiversus definitely got people pissed when the game wasn't getting enough content, and the game going offline for almost a year I hope the game does well, but I don't trust WB i how they will handle live service game. Not after Suicide Squad. One platform fighter series that the crew forgot was Digimon Rumble Arena. Though, I doubt anyone knows about that series. For those that do, reply.
Who else wants to start playing multiversus again when they lunch it again and I am totally playing Jason Voorhees, 2nd time as guest character but this time he is hunting rabbits.
What about the Godzilla: Destroy All monsters games, do those count as platform fighters? Honestly, I think they are entirely their own thing. Which is AWESOME!!! 🤩
Hadn't heard of this game, but I'm looking it up now! Thanks for letting me know 😊 We also had Fraymakers on the agenda for this episode, but ran outta time 😅
Just wanted to follow up on this: you and another person commented on this video about COMBO DEVILS, so I actually looked up more on the game.
As a big Cartoon Network fan, it's awesome to see how well MultiVersus turned out compared to CN's OTHER platform fighter, Punch Time Explosion (which I hoped would be talked about on this episode as well)
I always enjoy Sharpie's energy and enthusiasm!!! 😁
The 90’s & 00’s were the golden age of platform fighting games. And is still fun even to this day especially when wise gamers like Justin, Max, and others keep it alive.
Soul Calibur and Virtua Fighter would have a word
The Capcom Onimusha Platform Fighter was sweet!!
Game Arts also made the TMNT Smash Up game.
1:28:43 Multiversus
They didn't talk about Jason and Agent Smith, characters Maximilian Dood would be hyped for...
those characters were not out at time of recording - We recorded on May 17th and those characters were made public on May 20th
Soul Calibur is a platform fighter
Ok now I can't un see this
I mean, you're TECHNICALLY not wrong.
I miss DIgimon rumble arena 1 and specially 2. The evolution factor made it pretty cool and different back in the day.
DaPurpleSharpie is great! I love all the info. Please have her back, or have her be a full time researcher lol.
I cover bi-weekly FGC news on my podcast FGC Cast. We broadcast every other Tuesday that you can't find Triple K.O. and we're on almost all platforms (I personally recommend UA-cam tho) 😘
@@DaPurpleSharpie I started playing skull girls because of you! I love it but I suck lol .. I'll keep practicing
@@MelloMcKinney I also suck , but the important part is that we suck less than we did yesterday 😭 Hope you're enjoying the game 😄
The foxy game reminds me of the movie smoking aces I wouldn’t be surprised if they got the premise of that movie off that game.
Glad Jump Super Stars/Ultimate Stars was brought up here, those are amazing titles and it sucks that licensing rights kept those games in Japan.
I was really disappointed when i try to play multiversus day 1 but it was not available in my region. I am sure if asia region were able to play too at that time, the active player count would explode. I hope this time we are able to play also on launch.
Anyways, awesome podcast! Subscribed!
Eyyy let’s go Sharpie! ❤
I hope you get your chance to join TKO VERY soon, Baberuthless.
I seriously hope they realize how eager I am to see them discuss sfa2 Australian Outback, T5 Moonlit Wilderness and T6 lighting storm, Smash melee Final destination and Fountain of Dreams and roughly any Samsho/Last Blade stage backgrounds you can manage to get away with highlighting!
thanks a bunch, sis !! we still gotta do a video together one of these days ~ HAVE FUN AT COMBO BREAKER !! 💕
@@DaPurpleSharpie would absolutely be down 🥰
12:40 KoF 96 gave us Goenitz and Chizuru and had team Boss. It's great if only just for that.
Also gave us the best Arashi no Saxophone and Esaka.
1:18:00 I fully understand and agree with Dan's reasoning here, that being said I will never forgive him for not including dust and will consider him one of history's greatest monsters from now on
Nice finally talking about Smash!
I will always remember the super smash bros commercial on n64 I love it, like matt said i seen and and said i gotta get it and i remember getting it for Christmas 99
More people need to learn about and put respect on Tom and Jerry: War of the Whiskers.
Lets go!
I never knew The Empress of Tomorrow was in Brawlhalla
A good platform fighter to talk about is smack studio
I’ve been playing Jump Ultimate Stars on Delta and it took me so long to figure out how to unlock characters
Multiversus definitely got people pissed when the game wasn't getting enough content, and the game going offline for almost a year
I hope the game does well, but I don't trust WB i how they will handle live service game.
Such a great guest 😂👍🏽! Love this EP!
Love when theres guests in here guys and she fully took over and guided the episode in a great way! So much knowledge gain from this!
What about the Godzilla: Destroy All monsters games, do those count as platform fighters? Honestly, I think they are entirely their own thing. Which is AWESOME!!! 🤩
I'd call them arena fighters, myself.
Was hoping to hear a shoutout to Combo Devils tbh, pretty sick upcoming platform fighters that does more to integrate traditional FG stuff
After joining the discord, I was able to get two of the lead developers/creators to agree to do a sit-down interview with me on my show LATE NIGHT SETS WITH SHARPIE, so I wanted to thank you for bringing this game to my attention!!
What a great episode
Cool now Max have Kenny and Steve watch this podcast so they stop saying smash isn’t a fighting game
Soul Calibur is a platform fighter, you heard it here first, folks
NASB2 is amazing and is a hidden gem.
The only smash inspired game i ever loved was the viewtiful joe one.
Imagine a world where bandai never touches smash
How have y’all not done an episode based around how bizarre anime “fighters” are? Plenty to talk about. Or better yet your suggestions on how to fix them.
