**Thumbnail and title have been changed. Didn't intend the original thumbnail to be so clickbaity, but a shocking number of people REALLY believed there was a blue king boo discovered in a Mario game that's 20 years old. Go figure.
Stranger things have happened!! Like the shiny costumes in Pokemon Battle Revolution. (I uh... Was one of the people who thought there was a shiny king boo)
I believed it but only because I know nothing about Sunshine, so a lot of others might have been in the same boat 😅 The actual video topic is much more interesting anyway
Sunshine is my favorite Mario game so I should of known better, but i thought you were referring to some sort of glitch that had a super low chance to occur which would make king boo's texture blue or something. So i can see why people would get confused, they wouldnt think it was 'official' but some sort of cool rng dependent glitch you were trying to show off.
> "Day 8" > 520+ attempts > 40+ minutes left in the video > Title is "My *18-Month* Shiny King Boo Hunt in Mario Sunshine" I commend this level of dedication for such a small portion of this game. Trey's putting in the work no one else wants to. His luck's so bad the SMS IL gods just gave it to Samura1man to balance it out.
I'm astounded by how much entertainment value was in this video. Big props to the editting. Good job making essentially the same 2 minutes of content entertaining for 50 minutes.
As someone who mainly speedruns ILs and has spent 50+ hours on a single IL, I loved this video. Gambler's fallacy is real, you will inevitably try to find new strats and fail at some point in your journey, and you get so bored at some points you do stuff like name the different cycles. The entire video was exceptionally edited too. You got a new sub from me!
Watching this video was bittersweet. It caused me to reminisce about the many months I spent watching you grind King Boo. Despite the pain you experienced, you always brought a smile to my face. I'm going to miss the consistency of the grind, but I look forward to whatever you decide to stream next. Excellent video!
It's honestly a miracle how you managed to make an hour long video about a two minute IL so entertaining the whole way through. Might be one of the most enjoyable speedrun related videos ever. Editing is on point.
Just rewatched this video again. The editing is so good, and there are so many gags that actually had me laughing out loud. Combine that with the grind and your commentary and this is easily the coziest and most fun speedrunning vid on youtube. Definitely going into my favorite YT vids of all time
I love how this video perfectly balances and switches between the super nitty gritty technical details of SMS phenomenon like the sideways fruit throw in-between two wheel rings and the tangential montages of long drought bad luck. Also, can't forget Versus. Congratulations, it's a grandma! Fantastic video, Trey!
So much pain at two people getting it before you 😭 this was such a fun video to watch, love the editing. 10/10 content, so it WAS worth it taking long as hell 🤣
Bruh, I see three speedrunners I watch (AstralSpiff and DarkViperAU) then I see the king himself. The chances of that happening on a video about a very low chance of something happening is very low.
The *CONTENT* is back. Your editing style got a lot livelier and funnier, too. I'm not on Twitch so this doubled as a good compilation. Looking forward to the 120 Shines Redux vid.

It’s hysterical that during 49:23, when Trey got the Coin/Question Mark/Fruit slot roll twice in a row, that’s technically the same odds as double cycle skip - it’s the odds of one specific slot consecutively (1/64^2). And who says Trey isn’t lucky lol
20:21 By the way what the JP Hotel Manager in Sirena 6 says: Text box 1: "We've got trouble, Mario-san!" Text box 2: "As you can see, it's the electric graffiti (=goop)." Text box 3: "So, please help us, Mario-san." Text box 4: "Because you're the only one with the pump (=F.L.U.D.D.)" Text box 5: "You've got 3 minutes. Ready~? Go!" Sadly, not that exciting haha.
I just got back from a long trip, and seeing the notification for a new Trey video really lit up my night. The editing on this is incredible. Very entertaining video to watch. Glad that you chose some clips with cycle skips, some when bad things happened, and some when nothing happened. Really encapsulates the vibe of an IL stream if you have never seen one before. Mostly inane conversations/references with chat and then from nowhere suddenly "the run" happens. RTA runs last longer than ILs and since you typically have splits even someone who has never even played the game before can tell if "this is the run," meanwhile in ILs, especially if the game doesn't have an IGT you can't even tell what is happening unless you have enough knowledge to obtain the time yourself and you are paying full attention to the gameplay. The way I summarize this is: Chat during RTA WR pace: "this is the run!" "hi youtube!" Chat during IL WR pace: "do yall put parmesan on your spaghetti? ... oh gg"
An admirable amount of editing done, good job! Always fun to see a long grind be turned into a story including the thought process and intricacies to why/how it was done.
