The extra shine hoaxes always got me as a kid, especially when my brother had 2 shines left to get and didn't know what he was missing. I read something that a guy in Ricco Harbor wanted you to get Yoshi from Pinna Park and come back to him and he would give you a shine, but nope, not a thing. My brother just needed to go blue coin hunting.
I really like these kinds of World Record History videos and with this amount of editing, both in terms of the clips and music used, I could watch for hours straight.

Speedrunning documentaries have had a few years now to establish themselves, NONE are entertaining as this video. I'm serious man, this really is the GOAT of all SpeedRun videos.

I've don't even know how many times I've watched this video, the any% history video, and your GDQ run. All 3 of them are so well-commentated and thorough. It's also because I played SMS casually as a kid but have speedran other games, so all of the strats and history of SMS is new to me but also are things that I can appreciate from a speedrunner's perspective. I know for sure I am one of many people who fall into that camp of "played SMS casually but appreciate/have done speedruns", and I think these videos did the SMS community a great service from an outsider's perspective by showcasing the rich history of this game and also the discovery/evolution of all of the crazy strats that are mindblowing to a casual player. Thank you for making them!
You are so good at creating these videos. I feel like a part of the community after watching them! You are so brilliantly knowledgeable these are awesome.

Dude, you're so thorough, you're passionate, your music choice is great, and you never lack personality. Besides your speedrunning talent, your editing and producing talent is bloody brilliant too.

It was amazingly edited, I dont even wanna know how long it took you to collect all this footage and put it together. Great vid

A truly incredible video, I've never heard of an indepth documentary over a speedrun before. It's been an absolute pleasure to stumble across this video.
And fyi, you accomplished sub-3 on Australia Day. I am astounded for you.
Well I hope you've found summoningsalt in the meantime but if you haven't check him out
The extra shine hoaxes always got me as a kid, especially when my brother had 2 shines left to get and didn't know what he was missing. I read something that a guy in Ricco Harbor wanted you to get Yoshi from Pinna Park and come back to him and he would give you a shine, but nope, not a thing. My brother just needed to go blue coin hunting.
If your profile picture is from an anime, your -opinion- world record doesn't count.
Fire Emblem OVA. Busted. ;v
(Nice videos btw)
YTSunny true
Down with the anime overlords! -_-
YTSunny NOO MY 1 WR RECORD ON THAT 1 GAME
Damn
Your videos are amazing, best speedrunning content on youtube imo. This is exactly the quality content the speedrunning community needs! =)
Favorite thing about this is that there's a skip called "Slow-ass Boat Skip";
I really like these kinds of World Record History videos and with this amount of editing, both in terms of the clips and music used, I could watch for hours straight.
As some1 who often spends months at a time working on single videos for youtube, I can appreciate the sheer amount of work that went into this video. Thank you!
0:18 I love how he put "jumping" as a possible restriction

i know this video’s old now but the way you laid out this video just made it really pleasant and interesting to watch throughout. it’s super hard for me to pay attention to anything for longer than 3 minutes but i sat and watched this entire thing through. good video man
Speedrunning documentaries have had a few years now to establish themselves, NONE are entertaining as this video.
I'm serious man, this really is the GOAT of all SpeedRun videos.
Its been a year since the any% video? Jesus...
It only feels like a few months ago. I guess it was just that good (Mario Sunshine is my favorite game, i watched your video a lot).
same here, didn't realise it was that long
5:12 “the part that sticks out like a fat chick in a Victoria’s Secret catalogue”
god damn I’m glad we’re out of the internet era where everyone thinks they’re the funniest most edgy mf on the planet lmao

This voiceover was the best part of the video. Can I get this man to voice more random speedrunner tweets?
I was howling with laughter that entire time.
You and Summoning Salt are the best at these progression videos. Thank you for this.
The absolute madman.

You are so good at creating these videos. I feel like a part of the community after watching them! You are so brilliantly knowledgeable these are awesome.
Even though it's outdated, this video is still so entertaining to watch. An absolute masterpiece Trey.
this is an incredible video. I watched it like a documentary and it was soo good. This was one of my all-time favorite games when I was a kid, fantastic to see this. Keep up the great work!
“Nobody’s actually gonna do it”
“One day, somebody did it”
Now that’s speedrunning
“Take notes by the way;That’s not a pineapple”Samurai 2012
Just got done watching your most recent AGDQ run (which was easily one of the best I’ve seen) and now I get to watch this! The SMS AT marathon has begun :)
This video is great due to your first hand account of events. Yet, as it's a super video because of the matter of perspective, I'd love it if you did more videos like this, covering the speedrun histories of other games. Dude, you're so thorough, you're passionate, your music choice is great, and you never lack personality. Besides your speedrunning talent, your editing and producing talent is bloody brilliant too.
i love this video so much, along with the any% one. despite how outdated they are currently, i still watch them pretty consistently, mainly when im trying to sleep though lol. great background noise to help with sleep with my insomnia, or just to have on in the background while doing something.
Absolutely incredible video. Never imagined I would watch an hours worth of a game that I haven't played in a decade. Was fascinated throughout it's entirety and can't wait to see what other videos you have waiting for me on your page. Destined for success with this caliber content brother.
53:16 This is actually the funniest thing I’ve ever seen, amazing editing
i feel like i should have payed for this amazing well edited "film"
good job holy shit!
Okay, This Is Epic .
(seriously though, sick video)
Wait 20 shines is a category?
Finally a category I can run without dying 100000 times trying to get a skip
This was frickin amazing. I personally don't speedrun, and I've never actually watched one live (sue me why don'cha) but I love these kinds of videos. It's honestly shocking how much I know about running when I've never actually directly been involved with the thing itself, haha. No gatekeeping or anything, you kept things unbiased. It was amazingly edited, I dont even wanna know how long it took you to collect all this footage and put it together. Great vid
I already watched this but I needed to watch it again and also because it's the last video I watched in 2018 now. Also I changed my favorite sunshine runner about 20 times.
4 YEARS LATE SQUAD WHERE YOU AT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
I watched the original video literally at least 15 times. Probably will watch it after watching this one at least twice
Just 3 days ago, Paperario got a 2h58m27s time. The tenacity of speedrunners will always amaze me, great video! This was awesome.
Trey, I have never ever seen Mario sunshine, as I was born after it came out. Yet, I have watched this video 3 times. This is amazing content and I hope you grow much much bigger.
Can we have a big thanks for AveragsTrey for making this an go support him! Big insperation too the SMSS community and has help me through speed runs making it possible with all the information needed. Another thanks and history in the making, good luck AverageTrey. Also love from the UK
Thanks so much for making these interesting WR history videos, and doubly so for adding CC! My gf is deaf and adores these.
you 120 shine runners never fail to impress me. Regardless of skill, the mental fortitude needed for this kind of run is just... stupid. I can't handle it :P
Sup man
This video was a fun ride.
And it got even better when the Soulcalibur II music kicked in.
It's astonishing how well documented this all is. Congrats to all the speedrunners in the video for contributing to and perusing something they love.
Hell yes, last year's history of super Mario sunshine was so entertaining, I can't wait for this one. Heating up popcorn while I type this 🍿
I loved it, the jokes kept me laughing. nice choice of music throughout!
Those Love Live splits from ShadowMario got me wildin lmao
1:01:06 this man traveled back in time
loputosu a run so legendary he saved time by two years
I still come back to this video every now and again tbh. It's great.
Doodan's pure hatred of DEATHS is so palpable.
