Good for you being the first to review! Kind of surprised they didn’t give it to magazines first. But again, now Honda’s supporting actual customers and not fleet salesmen. 🥂
Mr. Fish, you provide the absolute best bike reviews. You stick to the stuff we really want to know. I also appreciate the fact you acknowledge that some features you show are new to you, and when someone owns a bike they will learn their bike and it will all be second nature. Finally, you took the bike on a little, worn and torn country road and that is exactly where this bike belongs. Thanks yet again from another former CB500X owner.
I’ve had my NX for a week. Only been on it 3 times due to the rain, wind and work. Rides like a dream. Engine sounds really nice and got a good rumble to it. Still breaking her in but I’m very happy with it. I’m 6ft 2 and 19 stone. Fits me perfectly and lots and lots of torque.
Well done on getting in there first for such a major bike for the UK, great it’s gone to a “normal “ real life reviewer and not c large scale corporate machine platform. Looks a great bike , great real world review thank you 👍👍
Thanks for the review. Tried the CB500X and loved it. Wasn't too sure about the front end, but it's still the same bike with upgrades. Mine should be here this week. Can't wait.

Can’t wait but I little nervous. New bike, new tyres, new breaks and me a new rider plus it’s going to be wet. I’ve ordered. The bike with the comfort pack. 3litre tank bag, 12v plug, heated grips, wind deflectors, knuckle guards and main stand. I’ve got a few questions: What’s the best way breaking in this engine. Best way breaking in new tyres especially in the wet. Can’t wait to finally pick it up. Thanks for the review.
Congratulations… the dealer will tell you the run in process when you pick it up , as for the tyres just take it easy for 100 ish miles not too aggressive on the throttle ..
Dunno why the changed the name, it's a CB500X with some nice updates, and the CB500X name tells you everyting you need to know about the rest of the bike. NX name doesn't fit but that's marketing for you I suppose. Still, nice to see it on the sort of roads it's best at in the sort of weather it'll be used in 👍

I’m quite interested in this puppy and have been waiting for it to arrive in Britain for review. As usual yet another excellent road test that has made up my mind to book a demo up here in Yorkshire. Keep up the great work.
I'd like to see your opinion of the new Himmy 452 in comparison to this. The real question is if you could only have one bike (on and off-road) which would you pick, if the NX wasn't a Honda, so just on the bike alone?
nice all rounder, looks controllable with just enough power, yet not so expensive to maintain... nice job honda, i think this will be among best selling models
I have a 2020 CB500X (post 19 inch front wheel and LED headlight, but pre twin discs at the front) and can testify to that being a great bike. The NX500 looks to have some styling differences but are they enough for me to think that I need to upgrade? Nope. Granted I do like the look of that new instrument panel. Honda have made the mistake of making a bike that is too good - at over 70mpg too it even beats off the temptation of bigger bikes. In answer to your question though, yes, the rear light is a different style to the past model.
Always loved the first CB500x, decent seat height for us common mortals, capable off-road although not in the hardest stuff, but with the right tires It can get you to many places.
I was sitting on and looking over this bike when you came to pick it up in the showroom. So it is interesting to hear your view on it. I use to ride a Dominator in the 90s which I loved and I've been looking for something with a similar vibe as I am returning to biking. As a fairly straightforward and simple but fun bike I think this would be spot on. Thanks for the review 👍
I'm moving to Aus later this year from the UK and planning on getting one of these as my mode of transport. What are you using yours for? Would you think it would be good for the back roads in Oz, as it is, or would you rally raid it?
Thanks for this. Here in US we are always a year behind with new Hondas - really annoying. When we finally got the Transalp we only get black and even though the web site lists "packs", clicking any of the "buy now" buttons just takes you to standard accessories page where I guess you are to figure out which bits will make up a package.
got mine 2 days ago. it has plenty of power but it need little bit more low end torgue. when you are going and you crank the gas it moves but you slow down to the turn and the star to accelerate from 30km/h with 3rd gear and it starts to jerk. more torgue and it would not struggle with that kind of situations. the kick stand is bad because the little stick you kick it down is too close to the left foot peg. and the egnition is way down in the front so i have to hop of the bike to take of the key. windshield should be way bigger and it doesnt have fuel range
Yep thats much better looking than the outgoing CB500x. Shame the new Transalp looks more like the outgoing x - would be better if modeled after this one lol. I had an earlier version of the CB500x and whilst it did everything i asked of it, it wasn't the most exciting bike - another 10-20 hp and a 270 degreee crank and it (and this) would be a stormer no mistake!

I did put Trailmax Raids on this past summer and while they stick great, they take some of the zest out of the on-road experience. Definitely slower and less nimber, louder. I might try to change back to the OEMs but I wanted to try off-road. Cheers from Canada
Brilliant video, informative and in depth. I’m thinking of getting my a2 done soon, and this would be my first “big” bike, how different is it to the older cb500x? I’m just wondering if it’s worth the extra money if I’m planning on a nice uk tour
I speak using my hands a lot too Mr Fish. Drivers looking at you via their rear view mirror must think you're mad at them 🤣. Great vid mate and thanks for sharing. I was seriously close to ordering the CB500X but saw this at the show in Birmingham, Nov last year and was told it was replacing it. Looks very similar but needs the extras to get it bang on (imo)
Honda would have to try pretty hard to F*** up the CB 500 X. In some ways I was disappointed when they finally revealed the NX as many were hoping it would be a more off-road capable variant of the X, with more clearance, tubeless spoked rims and increased travel. As things stand, if owners wanted to do more involved off roading they'd have to carry out the same modifications as they do on the outgoing model. Shame Honda didn't follow the same route as Suzuki with their two versions of the same DE platform. That said, the CB is a great bike (I've owned and loved mine since 2016!) and I imagine this latest iteration will be just as much fun to own and ride. Props for the first UK road test Mr. Fish!
I'm so glad you called the things under foot pegs 'hero blobs'. I remember having a discussion about this and I told the bloke that riders from the 90s always called them 'hero blobs' and he didn't believe me (her was a millennial) 😄
It seems a good bike, def road focussed as you mentioned. I do hope Aprilia bring out an A2 ADV bike with the new 457cc engine, but maybe a little more dirt focussed than this, but similar power and seat height, but a bit lighter
Nice intro to the bike. Yeah the 12V output should be standard, but I actually would prefer an USB outlet there. The tail light has now a red glass, previous transparent/white glass. Otherwise it looks quite similar. I like the new front fairing, the windshield is a bit different(larger also?), hopefully it gives more protection. I loved the previous TFT (many didn't) but the new seems to be OK, nice that it's possible to get info from your phone like weather and nav. The bike has now traction control.....hardly needed on such a small engine...but I its there 🙂 For most other parts the bike looks unchanged. A great bike 🙂 Congrats, you are the first (as i know) to get out some impressions, when the 2019 came I was the lucky one 😀
When I first saw the nx500 logo I was ready to get my wallet out and count my money. Then I looked a little closer only to find out that this is a rebadged cb500x and not a single cylinder bike. Can't say I wasn't disappointed although I believe this is a good improvement over the 2023 model.
Great review that will be hard to top for the other vloggers! Its the NX500 or the Triumph 400X I am keen on buying i need to test ride both but i really do like the Rally Dakar look of the NX500 now it reminds me of the older Versys 650 cyclops headlight look much better looking bike than the older CBX IMO
Love my cb500x 2019 was considering the 2023 with improved brakes and front end little did I know they were going to do this much improved. Good review thanks. Just don’t know if I am done with this type of bike need to test more bikes before I consider new purchase. The wife is considering a triumph tiger so don’t think I can keep up on a gravel track on a retro type bike. But I good would it be to not have crash bars, hand guards, sump guard and all that expensive protection.
I’ll go with the new one. Old light was famously bad, and to me the new design is more sporty, less conservative, more of a rally image. And better lighting and windshield.
Good review and very nice changes!! The roads you ride are awesome, any chance you could share the route you took with road numbers? Please include the green lane if you can!!
Great review. Saw this bike at the NEC in November, and have to say, I didn’t like the front end too much. Whilst on the seat, could see a lot of road through the yolk/front end. Don’t know if this one is slightly higher than the old bike, but it certainly felt like it, and as a short legged person (28inch) seemed a bit too tall for me too. May need to do a test ride.
Nice review! Im thinking of getting one but I need DCT I don’t think it’s available on the 500. I had the rebel 500 (same engine)for 3 years rode all year round through the worst of the uk weather! It still looked new when I sold it. I now have the Nc750x Adventure pack with DCT. I got it from Doble the best bike dealership I’ve ever used!
I had the Rebel 1100 DCT and liked it but felt cramped. I recently sold it and bought a Transalp after trying the CB500X. Both are good bikes but the Transalp took the cake.
Will you review 500 Hornet too? I'm not sure if there's anything different compared to CB500F aside from traction control and new dash/media system, still, would like to see a ride on it. Thanks!
Serious question. Can you put a skid plate on this bike at all? The engine is a stressed member. It has no frame, and therefore no frame to engine motor mounts. Skid plates generally mount under and to the bike frame rails, and crash bars use the frame to engine motor mounts as an anchor attachment point. This motor has no frame rails or motor mounts. How would a skid plate or crash bars mount? I think the engine would have to be designed to provide attachment anchor points for these, or else I don't see how.
21:25 'clutch is NON adjustable', wrong! Bought mine today and I've already adjusted the clutch, which is done by rotating a wheel to lengthen or shorten the cable. Same as on Japanese bikes in the 1970s.
As in the lever adjustment I meant (the wheel on the lever for span) the cables connections are always adjustable .. I’ll make it clear in the next one , thanks for the feedback
i rode it today. it is really an a2 license bike. pulls good, does bumps well. very much a beginners bike or for a girl; however it is a proper good bike nevertheless. brakes are good. not a bike for a seasoned crazy biker who sleeps in the woods
The old 650 single Dominator was a VERY desireablebike, for those who didn't earn enough to pay for a Transalp! This bike looks a good and a worthy successor! Be VERY interesting to hear your comparisin with the NEW Himalayan 452cc, from Royal Enfield?
I think my Honda CB300R would be just as good and being lower probably easier to control on that "off road" that you drove on. The Honda CB500F would be better for the road and that "off road" being lighter and lower.
size does matter, I am quite tall, and ride a kawasaky versys x300, so flat footing it is no problem/ just a bit odd to have my thighs at an angle toward the road instead of flat like my prior motos. geometry of each motorcycle just has to fit you for your choice, enjoy your ride.
people say it sounds like a sewing machine, but I am so old, to me it sounds a lot like George Jetsons Flying car. (or is that supposed to be Jorge Jetson), One reason I bought it, is simple it was in stock.@@leeinwis
The Dommy/Tenere style square'ish front fairing & screen looks promising... and then you look down & see the weedy forks, cast wheels & the boring CB500X silhouette. As a commuter? - Excellent. As an adventure bike? - No chance!

They have a mind of their own 😂
Love from India 🇮🇳 bro ❣️
Hi 👊
Like your video, keep it up buddy… greetings from Baja Mexico.
Thanks! 👍
Ordered mine in the pearl white with accessories pack. Should have it 2nd week of march.
Nice , you should enjoy it
Honda would have to try pretty hard to F*** up the CB 500 X. Fish!
I guess they figured most will only use it on they road , plus probably don’t want to take sales away from the new transalp
I'm so glad you called the things under foot pegs 'hero blobs'. I remember having a discussion about this and I told the bloke that riders from the 90s always called them 'hero blobs' and he didn't believe me (her was a millennial) 😄
What do they call them ?
peg sliders I think he said?
Excellent review. The first uk one I have seen 👍
Thanks! 👍 , first one to ride I believe 😉
It seems a good bike, def road focussed as you mentioned. I do hope Aprilia bring out an A2 ADV bike with the new 457cc engine, but maybe a little more dirt focussed than this, but similar power and seat height, but a bit lighter
This ☝️
🙂@@CuriousGoose
You can’t have any more bikes Pete
@@Mrfish2015 he's selling one so there's room for at least one more 😁
Nice intro to the bike.
I think the traction is mainly for Europe as they have cobbles that can be slippery in place
When I first saw the nx500 logo I was ready to get my wallet out and count my money.
Then I looked a little closer only to find out that this is a rebadged cb500x and not a single cylinder bike. Can't say I wasn't disappointed although I believe this is a good improvement over the 2023 model.
Yeah a strange change of name for this one
Good job. I subbed!
You deserve more subs btw
Thanks for the sub! I’m a 100% in agreement 😂
I dig how it looks
I think it looks better than the outgoing.. project for you 😂
I just put down payment on mine.I have to wait for a month for him to arrive. Can't wait!
Nice one , you’ll enjoy it
awesome video mate!
Thanks a lot!
Thanks for that 👊
Thank you for information test ride. About the seat; on cb 500 x it is slippery, when you go in the brakes, it looks like the same seat on nx 500 x.
Didn’t have any issues with the brakes , it’s abs front and rear (switchable)
Love my cb500x 2019 was considering the 2023 with improved brakes and front end little did I know they were going to do this much improved. Good review thanks. Just don’t know if I am done with this type of bike need to test more bikes before I consider new purchase. The wife is considering a triumph tiger so don’t think I can keep up on a gravel track on a retro type bike. But I good would it be to not have crash bars, hand guards, sump guard and all that expensive protection.
Buying new bikes is always a good dilemma to have 😆
Sorry John, don't like the new front end and new headlights, I have a CB500x and can't say I would swop for the NX.
I agree. I prefer the gold USD forks on the CB500X too. The TFT dash on the NX looks like an improvement though.
It looks WAY BETTER than CB500X. CB headlight was just ugly.
@@podunkman2709 NOOO the old one looks like a rabbit.
I’ll go with the new one. Old light was famously bad, and to me the new design is more sporty, less conservative, more of a rally image. And better lighting and windshield.
By the way, I like the front end design better than the Transalp. Again, too conservative.
If only they put a Dash like that on the NC 750X.... you've even got Twin Discs upfront
Maybe next time they update it
Good review and very nice changes!! The roads you ride are awesome, any chance you could share the route you took with road numbers? Please include the green lane if you can!!
All around boxhill surrey and the lanes are in coldharbour in the surrey hills
Great review. Saw this bike at the NEC in November, and have to say, I didn’t like the front end too much. Whilst on the seat, could see a lot of road through the yolk/front end. Don’t know if this one is slightly higher than the old bike, but it certainly felt like it, and as a short legged person (28inch) seemed a bit too tall for me too. May need to do a test ride.
Yes , I’d suggest a test is always the best way to go
Nice review!
I also have 1100 rebel DCT but it’s uncomfortable after an hour or so. I’m short and really need DCT bike due to left hand arthritis! I
They are pretty spot on … no dct on any 500s in the near future I’m afraid
Reminds me of an old Vetter Quicksilver fairing.
Just googled 😂
Brilliant first impressions! We all hope Mr Fish gets on many new Hondas this year 😁👍 I'm looking forward to the new hornets
If I get them I will do it .. thanks
Will you review 500 Hornet too? I'm not sure if there's anything different compared to CB500F aside from traction control and new dash/media system, still, would like to see a ride on it. Thanks!
I should be on one soon
Serious question.
Can you put a skid plate on this bike at all? The engine is a stressed member.
It has no frame, and therefore no frame to engine motor mounts. Skid plates generally mount under and to the bike frame rails, and crash bars use the frame to engine motor mounts as an anchor attachment point. This motor has no frame rails or motor mounts.
How would a skid plate or crash bars mount? I think the engine would have to be designed to provide attachment anchor points for these, or else I don't see how.
I’ve got one on mine .. sw motech
When is it coming to the usa
?
Brilliant review. Thanks for the product insight.
Glad it was helpful!
nice test as usual, so did you noticed any difference compared to cb500x?
It’s more cosmetic to be honest
21:25 'clutch is NON adjustable', wrong! Bought mine today and I've already adjusted the clutch, which is done by rotating a wheel to lengthen or shorten the cable. Same as on Japanese bikes in the 1970s.
Very useful review though, thanks!
As in the lever adjustment I meant (the wheel on the lever for span) the cables connections are always adjustable .. I’ll make it clear in the next one , thanks for the feedback
I like the protection the fairing offers, but... it looks like it would be a time-consuming job to take it off (to get to the valves, etc.).
Get your mate to do it 😂
Great review sir! Hi from Ireland.
Hey, thanks!
i rode it today. it is really an a2 license bike. pulls good, does bumps well. very much a beginners bike or for a girl; however it is a proper good bike nevertheless. brakes are good. not a bike for a seasoned crazy biker who sleeps in the woods
The previous years had adjustable windscreen, I guess they traded it for the updated dash screen.
Not a lot of people knew or bothered to do that .. an adjustment on the fly would be nice
Nice review. I had the nx650 very good bike. Can you get the e clutch for this bike.
No , normal clutch on this
NX750 is what I want, great vid mate. (transalp engine obviously)
What helmet you wearing?
Nexx X,wed if I remember correctly
Also for India the only proper review enjoyed it thank you ❤
Glad you liked it!
Great new bike review. This with a Transalp red, white, blue paint & gold rims would be sharp.
I said the black would look better with gold wheels too
Its pretty much adventure styling on a sports bike. Would be fine as a daily commuter .
I wouldn’t call it a sport bike 😉
The old 650 single Dominator was a VERY desireablebike, for those who didn't earn enough to pay for a Transalp!
This bike looks a good and a worthy successor!
Be VERY interesting to hear your comparisin with the NEW Himalayan 452cc, from Royal Enfield?
Like I said to someone else . If Enfield want to lend me one I’ll happily ride it
I think my Honda CB300R would be just as good and being lower probably easier to control on that "off road" that you drove on.
The Honda CB500F would be better for the road and that "off road" being lighter and lower.
Being lower you’d lose the exhaust lol
size does matter, I am quite tall, and ride a kawasaky versys x300, so flat footing it is no problem/ just a bit odd to have my thighs at an angle toward the road instead of flat like my prior motos. geometry of each motorcycle just has to fit you for your choice, enjoy your ride.
The engine noise of the x300 weirded me out .
people say it sounds like a sewing machine, but I am so old, to me it sounds a lot like George Jetsons Flying car. (or is that supposed to be Jorge Jetson), One reason I bought it, is simple it was in stock.@@leeinwis
Great video...Does it have a centre stand as well as a side stand please?
Only as an option not as standard
Sorry to see the CB500X gold forks vanished on this one.
The Dommy/Tenere style square'ish front fairing & screen looks promising... and then you look down & see the weedy forks, cast wheels & the boring CB500X silhouette.
As a commuter? - Excellent.
As an adventure bike? - No chance!
Might chop my Duke 390 in on one, need a new commuter and liking everything about that (except the 19" front hoop) MPG good (assume so)?
My old cb500x used to get around 80 mpg so I’m guessing around the same or more
