I used to watch this with my late mother. They were broadcast on PBS during the britcom time slot. Along with keeping up appearances. A lot of good memories. Thank you for posting.
Hi Philip I'm sorry about your mom and it made me think about my late mother Vassa who passed away 31 years ago on October 16th 1988, she died in her sleep from a brain aneurysm she was 38 years old and I was 16 years old when I found her body :-( but I remember watching the show in the early 80's too. Hope you have a good and a safe weekend sir
Phillip Edwards...how can get it get better than both of them! Although, I live in the US and in the 90s they had characters from different sitcoms make cameo appearances (no wonder when produced by the same eprson) and they turned even worse (i.e. Seinfeld - sorry, but I thought that was the worst of all - even worse than Friends).
Shared experience, sorry for your loss.... I watched with my Grandma who is thankfully still with me when I was in 4th or 5th grade.... I was probably the only Hispanic little girl watching British television on PBS in the Bay Area. Amazing memories though💕🇺🇸🇲🇽 🇬🇧 👵🏽👧🏽📺🌉
I grew up watching the syndicated reruns of this on PBS in the 1980s. While I did get some of the innuendos back then, there's a lot more I picked up re-watching it now in my 40s. It's just crazy think that the earliest episodes were 50 years ago. Miss Brahms was one of the sexiest characters in TV history but Wendy was 9 years older than my dad.
@leeproctor7622 you're not the only one who doesn't care about P.C I'll always enjoy are you being served. The story's were funny but getting weird towards the end
I used to watch it with my Grandpa every Saturday night in the 90s on PBS. He especially loved the German Week episode! He always thought Mr. Humphries was hilarious.

Nicholas Alonzo...here! I watch these over and over with a little break between them (so I get some breathing time, he he). Almost every time I see something differrent that's 🤠🤠 You're not going to believe, but Molly looks identical to a cousin!!
My favorite one: Mrs Slocombe: I haven't forgotten the war. I remember those German bombs knocking me down, flat on my back? Mr. Lucas: How about the American soldiers knocking you up, on your back?
Thank you, PBS (WHYY Channel 12 Philadelphia) for broadcasting these episodes back in the '80s. I didn't take to Are You Being Served? at first but once I came around this show has been a constant companion over the decades. Nothing better for a lazy weekend morning or a rainy day than this show.
Comedy programmes of today will never match the comedy programmes of the good old days especially British comedy they were the best. I always got a laugh out of Captain Peacock getting easily distracted by Rumbold's numerous knockout secretaries or a pretty customer. He'd always flub or slip up staring at a pair of nice knockers and was supposed to be the gentlemanly suave and debonair former officer. It's what made the show-the characters' quirks and personalities.
Really good show. I wasn't into it until I started watching it on PBS affiliate WXXI (for those of you who are British or live in the UK, I'm American) where it would come on at 9 PM on Saturday nights. When I first started watching it in 2018, it would be followed by another great British show called Fawlty Towers which starred John Cleese of Monty Python fame. Shame that Fawlty Towers doesn't get shown after AYBS these days.

God, I love this show so much. The humor's so sharp and on-point.
The two ingredients that provide laughs - double entendre and sarcasm - both contained in AYBS - which is why it’s still so funny decades later.
I would add that doing it in front of an audience you get that extra special quality
The magic is that neither double entendre nor sarcasm was overdone.
