ABOUT MARION
Marion Grasby is a food producer, television presenter and cookbook author who's had a life-long love affair with Asian food.
Marion is a little bit Thai (courtesy of her mum) and a little bit Australian (courtesy of her dad).
Marion lives in Bangkok, Thailand and travels throughout Asia to find the most unique and delicious Asian food recipes, dishes and ingredients.
My family has no Indonesian roots whatsoever, I am from the Netherlands, but due to our (sadly) colonial past, there is a lot of Indonesian food available, and my Dutch mother and grandmother would make nasi goreng often. It really holds a special place in my heart, even though the ingredients they used likely differ from original nasi goreng. Thanks for the recipe and making me remember those times from my childhood! :)
Hello there colonizer. (It's a joke guys, it's just a freaking joke. Chill out, unclench your buttholes. Now, back to what I'm gonna say.) I don't know if you know this but there's a song called Geef Mij Maar Nasi Goreng by Wieteke Van Dort that tells a story about her being repatriated to the Netherlands in the 50s and how she missed Indonesian foods mainly Nasi Goreng.
@@RifqiMainGitar haha no worries I get it's a joke! Interesting to know! Thanks for that, I will check it out :)
many people who like Nasi Goreng. Sweet soy sauce seasoning makes it unique
shrimp paste, sweet soy sauce, prawn crackers and fried shallots.
booiiiiiiiii we eating good!
Hallo from an Indonesian here. There are so many ways to cook Indonesian fried rice. Your version looks so good and we, Indonesians, love MSG. Haha Marion, you are awesome!
Mantap ! Nasi Goreng nya ❤️
5 May 2021 🍒
It's okay with MSG. But it's better to use chicken stock

It’s amazing how much my pantry items and condiments have changed since I discovered Marion. Thank for broadening my cooking skills. 🇹🇭🇺🇸
I had to laugh....how true this is in my home too
same!
the bloopers here and there are what makes these videos fun. yummy food and funny moments. 6:02 earring falls out and decides to join the party. Lol 🤣
Indonesian here, adding directly the shrimp paste is rare. But we usually add sambal and that has a bit of shrimp paste inside. But other than that, this version of nasi goreng looks lovely!
Bener bnget, tapi sekrng mulai bnyk yg pke terasi, tapi kloyg gsuka yaa mmm kmbli kw selera sih,
I’m watching this instead of working - love these rice recipes! 🍚
Perfect!
#NOODLEZZZZ INSTEAD,
CUCUMBER!😂😂😂😂😉😘😎
You bring every Asian Cuisine to my Kitchen Marion! Thank You soooo Much! Love from Philippines 🇵🇭
I put cabbage, cucumber and carrot in mine so I feel that I am eating a little healthy. Still very tasty even with a lot of vegetables.
Hi Marion, I just wanted to let you know that you truly inspired me to cook Asian food and love Asian food once again. I've learned to embrace heat and spicy foods because of you too. You're such a natural at this and I can tell you're doing this because it's your passion, and not just some sponsor pushing and making you crank out videos (unlike other channels). Hope you and your family are doing alright during these times! Have a good one :)
The funny thing is not all Indonesian nasi goreng use kecap manis.. I born in region with no kecap manis in nasi goreng. Only chili for red color and spicy, shrimp paste, garlic and red onion. You can add any kind of protein you like.
Maybe you can try this one.. The fragrance of shrimp paste and chillies will bring you to another level. 😆😆😆
Kecap manis is essential, if you’re not using it, it just a regular fried rice.
@@AlexDeni no, it's not. it's called Nasi Goreng Merah Makassar.
You are really gentle ma'am while cooking.... I love your Chanel
Fried rice is my comfort food too, and over the past year your cooking videos have been my comfort-tubes! Cheers from Chicago!
I went through a stage about 8 years ago where kepap manis went into or on top of almost everything- then it became kepap manis with sweet chilli.
I love drizzling it over a plate of spaghetti bolognese or macaroni. Gives it a great pop of flavor and sweetness.
Kecap Manis
Kecap Manis = Soy Sauce
@@astapriatama1477 Kecap Manis = *Sweet* Soy Sauce
kalau Soy Sauce = Kecap *Asin*
Oh iya.. Awalnya saya mengetik begitu.

Waiting for Marion to cook other Indonesian dish. Ayam Penyet, Gado2, Bakso, Mie Ayam , Soto Ayam etc 👏👏👏
Marion pernah bikin soto ayam lho
You completely right about kecap manis, we even add a bit of kecap manis when cooking the hottest spiciest nasi goreng such as nasi goreng gila or mercon.
That bowl of rice looks divine to me.
I've been making this recipe for a year now after watching your recipes. Very tasty! I make mine with crab and Shrimp and use brown rice. Thanks for the recipes!
For best taste of *Kecap Manis* try to spread kecap manis side of nasi goreng on pan with high fire until it smoke (become caramelized) then mixed with nasi goreng, guarantee taste will more than just spread on top of nasi goreng while cooked it
More Indonesian recipes please!
Don't know if this is traditional in Indonesia itself but my Indonesian grandmother also added leek and celery leaves at the end, gives a really nice flavor
You can eat with acar which is pickled cucumber, shallots, chillies
I’ve been making this recipe for over a year now it’s so delicious and better than anything I’ve ever bought
Love when you post a new recipe and I have all the ingredients! Totally making this tonight with a fried egg😁
Perfect! Beef Nasi Goreng is good every morning for breakfast really like it, this recipe Delicious.Thank you for sharing Marion's Kitchen.
“Nasi Goreng “ is Fried Rice in Malay. There are various though but each time you show fried rice is different version thanks for that. This beef fried rice looks delicious and it’s a must try recipe.
lol ngaku'
Yes, in Malay language. But in the archipelago there are many races, for example Papuan, Timorese, Minahasa, etc.
Put "fried rice" in your video description for more search hits ;)
Marion! Your channel has been such a wonderful discovery during the pandemic. I have been so inspired by nearly all of your recipes and videos, so much so I'm on the hunt for the perfect wok! I've been cooking up a storm trying as many of your recipes as I can, who knew wok cooking was so much fun!
Much love from Canada!
I randomly stumbled across your channel a few weeks ago and I’m so glad I did! Your videos are amazing. Your passion towards food is evident and I love your energy 🤍 Also, I may have found Uncle Roger’s Aunty Helen 😉
Yum! I’m really missing our holidays in Bali, so this is perfect.
i love to eat shrimp paste as a dipping sauce n love the smell.
I would recommend adding acar (pickled cucumber) with it, it’s so good.
Love your recipe, Marion! Next time when you make an indonesian fried rice, for a "cheat" version just use sambal oelek with kecap manis and you're set! Sambal oelek usually already has the shrimp paste in it (so you don't have to worry to dissolve it) and kecap manis will make the sambal less spicy. Oh and lots, lots of shallots. Since our shallots are smaller here, we tend to use 1:3 garlic and shallots ratio. But since yours are bigger, maybe 1 medium shallots to 2 garlic is enough (this is because we don't use onion here, the key is to cook the garlic and shallots in margarine / butter) 🥰
Basic Indonesian nasi goreng, sambal and kecap manis, or even without kecap
Wow.. ! Yummy Nasi Goreng beef ❤️👌
Yassss, thank you. Can you also teach us how to make Mea Goreng? Please and thank you 😉
Yummy and love watching you cook
Delicious
Literally me : An Indonesian who just eaten a plate of nasi goreng and then see this in my youtube recommendation
OMG, you raised the bar on my fried rice menu at home! LOL! This and the garlic mince pork fried rice with gojujang is my favorite!
But wait, where is the sunny side egg?
Shrimp paste and kecap manis we get in the UK is incredibly strong. Use both sparingly. I've made Nasi Goreng that was inedible cos it was ridiculously fishy and salty.
Just a small amount is enough. Every kind of shrimp paste have strong flavour. Grill it before use.
@@ufaalvaro Thanks. I'll try that.
Hola marion saludos desde Costa Rica siempre vemos tus recetas
I really need a wok. Looks like a game changer!
I've made at least five recipes!!! All yummy. I purchased a cast iron pan from Amazon preseasoned with two short handles on both sides and it came with a glass lid with a rubber edge. I highly recommend it. This wok she is using must be used on a regular basis or it becomes moldy...per Marion. She is the only one I watch. I just do not make my dishes as hot. Lol Enjoy!!!
@@cindymarie2475 Very interesting! Thank you so much for the info!
I do use cast iron too, I have a dutch oven from Le Creuset, I use it all the time even in my videos. I love it!

An inspiring cuisine, even for me, a proper chinese, who have cooked for my family over dozen years.
This rice recipe look so good
My goodness my mouth is watering
This looks incredible!! Will definitely be trying this sometime soon!
Hi there. Basically Indonesian fried rice has lot of varieties. You can add something to strengthen the flavors as the game changer. Marion adds a shrimp paste. I usually add rendang or sambal ikan cakalang (also from Indonesia), which makes the nasi goreng more spicy. Good work, Marion. Also, I like your earrings ❤️
The nasi looks delicious
Terima kasih untuk resepnya. Nasi goreng selalu enak dan lezat👍🇮🇩
I know you said very high heat to start off cooking the beef mince but your wok doesn't actually look like its cooking that hot, there's no smoke and it generally just looks like a low to medium heat.
Love your videos your recipes your sense of humour and that earring that fell priceless glad you didn't edit it out. We going to try this recipe too yummy blessings Penny and Wilfred Cape Town South Africa
First of all, delicious fried rice Marion. Secondly, I had to have a plate of food infront of me whenever I come across your cooking because they're always mouth watering. Thirdly, I really don't mind you adding the MSG because regular people use it for that extra flavour kick. 😄😄
Another great dish done. Thanks Marion from Fiji.
Soy sauce, shrimp paste and all umami flavor things are either naturally containing msg or have msg added to them
Im watching this while it is 9am here in the Netherlands.. you have made me to cook fried rice in the early morning.... 😂
Some household even makes nasi goreng for breakfast here in Indonesia. My mom sometimes pack me nasi goreng for lunchbox back in the school days
@@hananurra6122 wow yum!!
All Marion's recipes are so easy but I'm that lazy to make it. Thanks for sharing!

Good Morning Melbourne! 🍒
I always anticipate that "yum!" at the end of your videos. It wouldn't be a Marion video without it. 😅
Lovely!
Only one thing could make this better..... crispy fried egg on top. Love this Marion. Will make it for sure
I should be studying right now... But seeing this video makes me want to drop everything and cook!
My favourite dish 😍😍😍😍
Miss M, sometimes when I'm browning beef like that, I don't seem to be able to get a nice sear when it starts to release liquid. I will then use a paper towel to soak up the liquid. is the flavor I lose worth the exchange for the texture I'm looking for?
Hi im so happy to see you make nasi goreng the way we make it too and we use msg and kecap more for the color but by itself the shrimp paste gives a nice brown color wish i love the taste and texture by theway yummm😍😍😍😋😋
I am salivating...
Awesome
These videos make work from home better...
That looks SO GOOD
Made this tonight! Soooo goood!!! Next time I'll reduce the soy sauce and add replace with more kecap manis, cos I like it a lil more sweet and lil less salty.
perfect
looks yummy
more perfect if you put "acar & kerupuk"
Awesome thanks so much 👍👍👍👍
Your good recipe
Looks amazing!
Your kitchen is literally dreamy 🥰
Shrimp paste is like what people say about anchovies
Tastes really good
❤️I will try this tonight.. And Made my homemade kecup manis. 😊
Actually stock cubes, maggi or any variation is MSG ! so she's just having another type of MSG (not ve-tsin) but another form.. I really am sure how this dish , with all the sauces/shrimp paste, is identical in taste if she didnt put that stock cube. :)
Sure but it's only actual msg that makes my heart race. Stock cubes are fine
Aku Indonesia, i love nasi goreng ❤️
OMG got to ask my Indonesian mom to make this !! Delish
Girl, we must always have our nasi goreng with kerupuk and acar, that is what make it Indonesian. Shrimp paste straight, nope we don't do that, we roast our shrimp paste first, make into a sambel and then use that for the fried rice. You forgot to incorporate the egg(s) too. Also, shallots dear, not onions, shallots are way more fragrant and flavorful for an Indonesian Nasi Goreng. Make the shallots, garlic and chilli fragrant first then sear and stir fry the protein, then add the eggs, then when all is fragrant, rice and the rest you got it right. 😉 Also, Indonesians don't really eat friend rice with sambel, the spice level is always predetermined before hand. If it is still not spicy enough, chopped Thai chilies is best. 😉😉
If you use cut beef 🥩 instead of ground beef it will taste even better
Amazing work
Thanks a lot 😊
Thanks
You can put an egg on top, Indonesian sometimes do that
Yum, yes an egg on top is so good
We Indonesian are big on MSG.. Or sometimes we substitute it with the mighty TOTOLE 😀🍄
Hello marrion thank for your recipe and your video thanks so much♥♦
Oh yes please. Looks delish!
Hi Ms Marion, we really love your earrings, always look good on you ^^
Actually, we always come to Marion's Kitchen for "Nasi Goreng" (FRIED RICE) Recipe - You have got the best ones on UA-cam, Cheers.

I can smell the nasi goreng from here 😍😍👍👍yummy.
if you eat it with crackers (or shrimp crackers) it would be very very delicious😋😋
Just added your fried rice with fish chips or we called "kerupuk". Believe me, it will be so totally perfect.
