By far the best place I ever lived in my 68 years was on a 60 Acre Farm , in Northern Virginia Horse Country. It was a friend's place and I lived in their home for a while. The main house was maybe 150 years old --- and there's nothing like waking up to all the animals and the open space and rustic buildings. So I feel ya and good luck!

Having lived with a dug well like you have for many years, I'd recommend getting the water tested; the water might look clean & OK, but it might have bacteria that can't be seen or tasted. And can't wait for upcoming videos
Outhouse Tip: keep a 5 gallon bucket in the outhouse and fill it with Lime. In the bucket keep a cup and throw about 5 or 6 ounces of lime down the hole each time you poop. The lime will kill the smell and also disolve the poop so your outhouse doesn't fill up. Still have the outhouse at the camp we built in 1973 and it's fine for use to this day.
I'm new to the channel. You had me at "Making old shit look like a million dollars. I love it!". I lived in a old farm without plumbing for 13 years. And loved the simplicity.

Love what you're doing. Small thing, if the corrugated roof is asbestos, replace it with proper protecting yourself. I did my 160yr old rural house, also some of it. The rest, just a giant, never ending(or dull) puzzle. You'll love it, sometimes a pain; but you are free!!!

I like this place....especially the barn. It's built really well! Nice old wood floors in the house too. But more than anything, I like seeing someone I like, HAPPY! Makes me smile!😌😎🚜❤
Hiya, When I was younger we moved into at least three houses like this no running water but had a spring well right out side of the house , use to warm the water up on the wood stoves to take a bath , The last house we lived in like that had the water in the house the well was under the house and had a pitcher pump in the kitchen that was great no more going out to get the water it did had electricity but one outlet per room and no lights just kerosene lights or candles , in the winter we would get up to fire up the wood stoves and would have snow on the floors till it warmed up the house had no insulation so the snow would just blow in under the doors and cracks but we lived in that house for 5 yrs and fixed it up better but owner passed and the family sold it but it was a nice pre civil war house it had hidden rooms in the walls , But its all gone now just an empty field , But I like what your doing here one of my other channels told me too check you out so I SUBBED hope thats ok and anytime you need help trying to fix something just let me know be safe and take care
Internal access from the house to the attic would be a good idea. I am sure once you have got ridden of all the last owner stuff that you don't want or cannot re-purpose , plus the piles of rubbish in the out buildings and against the house you will have a much better idea on how you want to use the areas. I'm surprised they never ran a water line from that well to the house. Even if it just had a hand pump in the kitchen for water would be nice.
For a septic tank here in the U.S.A. a couple of decades ago it was still common just to bury an old fuel oil barrel. When they put in natural gas lines everybody had a fuel oil barrel they didn't need anymore so rather than scrap them, many ended up as a septic tank.

I realize I'm coming to this more than a month after the fact, so I don't know how much exploration you have done there. One of the first things that I would do when I buy a property like this is to MAP it. I don't know if G--gle Maps works there, but if it does, use it. Make a screen-cap of your property. Or use a Real Estate web-site to get a map with the property lines on it.
For me, that's the first thing to do.
If you have a drone, I would do something even better...
First, I would walk around the property boundaries and I would physically mark the property-lines. Even if I don't put in a fence or something like that (eventually I will), at least start with some sticks or poles in the ground. Start with markers in all of the corners, with a ribbon or a small flag to mark the corners. Or perhaps corner-stones? Next, walk the property-line and put more markers in the ground to mark the lines. Tie a wide bright-colored ribbon such as construction Warning tape (just like police crime scene tape... but not for police) and attach that to all of the markers, going all along the property lines... so that all of the property lines are marked and drawn with that ribbon/tape.
Once everything is marked and outlined, now I can go around and just LOOK at everything from the outside. Go to each corner and look across to all the other corners and boundaries and really look at the total area, so that gives you a much better perspective on all that Land. This way I feel like I will gain a true FEEL for the totality of that Land.
Here's where a drone comes in handy.
Once I have my property lines marked, I can then fly my drone up just high enough to take a good picture of the whole property and get good views off those ribbons and corner-stones and lines. This imagery can be used to map everything on the land and plan where to put gardens and decide what to put, and where.
That Map of the Land is a great Planning tool.
ALL of those buildings look to me like an excellent opportunity to Start Over. I realize you can't afford to just tear it all down and start building a new farm house. But, if you can use one of the out-buildings as temporary shelter, starting over is what I would do there. First of all, I would want to build a house with a cellar. Do you know how high the water table is there?
BTW... I saw what looks like it might be some kind of hatch in the floor in your living space. You might want to check that out, to see if there is access to a space under that floor... and if so, is it a good cellar space or is it just a small space under the floor. You might want to look around the entire house for a cellar or crawl-space access door, to see what's under that house. ALSO, you may want to look thru the house to see if there is an indoors opening to the attic space. It might be full of interesting things. Or maybe just spiders and dead rodents. Who knows?
LOOK carefully for the possibilities and for the opportunities. You might be surprised what you'll find there.
Look for a root-cellar. There may be one somewhere near the house.
YOU were talking about mysterious wires. I see what looks like a bunch of wires going in the well. THAT could be wires for a well pump. You probbly want to pull those wires out of the well and see if there's a electric pump in there! This is for-sure one reason to Start Over. Building a house with plumbing!
I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with this place. I have a feeling that, even with all the hard work, this is going to be a whole lot of FUN.

Love the old farmhouse and out buildings. I wish I had a passport and could visit. I'm an Australian pagan and love old farms like that. I want to buy an old farm like yours and become self sufficient. And I would host like minded people so they can have simple holidays on a pagan farm. Being in touch with nature on that level would be absolutely awesome. Blessed be.

It’s a great house and a good amount of land. It just needs a bit of love but it will be beautiful in the future. Don’t throw anything away until you have given each item a good amount of thought. Lots of good stuff there that will be useful or you can sell or swap for stuff you do need. Good luck, I’m super jealous
Wow I live in central illinois on a old farm stead its said to say but I tore down a old 2 story farm house that was much better shape then White Witch's house she Bought I wish her the best oh I did restore the old summer kitchen from 1850 and that's what I live in

you can easily fit a rain gutter that collects water and stores it inside in a big container. Rainwater harvesting system
Well you've certainly got a major project there Leila which will keep you busy for many years. I'm glad to hear you have a friend who is going to help you with it. Yes, the electrical wiring needs major repair/updating. You should be able to get a proper water supply into your house from the well outside by using an electric pump and plumbing. Good that you are starting the project now, so you can get it watertight and warm for next winter. Best of luck with it all. Dave x

I think it's a great idea. You are young and full of energy, If you add friends willing to help anything is possible. Years ago some friends in New Orleans bought a house at auction with the condition that it could not be inspected. It was an old crack house. They had to take out around the first meter of the dirt in the back yard because it was full of used syringes. To top it off this was in a very crowded neighborhood so the couldn't get heavy equipment in. It was all one wheelbarrow at a time through the house. Now it looks beautiful.
You truly have bitten off a big chunk of real estate , But it's your new home and it will look like a million dollars when it all comes together . I do look forward to following your progress over the weeks , be safe & I do hope you have an offsider ..aussie bob.
There's an old saying, "Buy land, they aren't making any more of it". Wonderful place you have. Here in the USA from the mid 1960s to 1980s I grew up in an old farmhouse originally built in 1890. No electricity when built, electrified in the 1930s, my dad upgraded the wiring in the 1960s. In the kitchen there was a flour grinder built into the cabinets. Lots of interesting things like that in old houses, like you said all the magic happens in the kitchen. #1 priority is to keep a good roof on the house. No water stains on ceilings so it looks good from the video. Looking forward to seeing all of your progress.
Great farm , but I'd suggest salvage as much materials as possible.
Then design a new dwelling and just build a new simple and smaller home. Believe me , you'll be much happier with it in the end and not constantly trying to patch a patch.
Then you can concentrate on growing things , livestock and have a dependable living space.

Holly s..t.that is a lot of work. Being a builder all my life that would be a fun project. I could hook that up fast.i love those kind of projects.i would make sure the walls are stable. Then replace the roof .And then it is show time.replace the electric. Run a water line from the well.then make sure all the wood burners are replaced with working ones.i wish I knew her.i love those projects.dam that would be fun.BUT .I hope it is not haunted. I have been down that road. 😆 but she is called a witch.so she should be ok.lol.

Wow Leila,...at first glance it looks like you're taking on a mammoth task there and i know a lot of people would be put off by that thought but,....knowing you, you'll get stuck in and work your butt off getting the place how you want it and making a real good go of it. You certainly ain't no slouch when it comes to putting in a bit of hard work. All i say is,....please take good care when you do things and work in a safe way the best you can but i think you've got your head screwed on well enough to know that anyway. Definitely have your work cut out for you and if you decide to tare down the small storage shed. You should be able to reuse most of the materials to fix the main barn and other projects.

Save the barn, save the wood stove from the house and then call the fire dept. and do a controlled burn of the house, and build a new small house. That way you would save money.
You have quite a project on your hands. It will be fun to see how you whip it into shape.

Hi Sweetheart! Looks like you won't be traveling too far in the next year! Lelia, repair the roofs first thing, then weather proof. A leaky roof causes the most damage. Even if it's just a cheap tarp tacked down with nailing strips. You want be sorry. The rubbish and waste piles can be sorted, organic and soil turned into compost. If any, erosion will take care of rubbish. I'm sure you will be using solar power for lighting. but wind might be better for pumping water. Keep us up to date on your progress. Can i give you some advice ask a buildings surveyor and civil engineer to give you a structural survey.
You have a lot of work to do on this house. What i can see is possible ground movement large gaps in dor fromes probable walls have moved.
My gradmother had outside privvy toilet in the country very cold in the winter but do able.
Rebuld is a big project but should be possible in time. Well done

Having a homested deep on the countryside and doing physical labour in the nature in fresh air must be some of the cornerstones of physical and mental health. And a good diet and enough sleep. Living self reliant presents mostly two problems: Electricty and fuel. You will need a small tractor.

The house as they say has good bones. Never understood why some people pile garbage in and around their house. It will be time consuming just cleaning up around there but in time you will make a beautiful home & property. ✌️🤙
