@@Patrick3183 Thanks for that insight. Just listened to those 2 songs. Killer music and evolution of style. Without shading all the work on "Into the Groove".
I just think it’s cool that it’s basically just a break beat. Man, music was just so much cooler back then. I mean, this is a pop song. And it’s friggin’ cool! Hip hop was something new. It wasn’t completely overrun by the vultures. It hadn’t yet been made a mockery of. I’m not only glad I was alive then, I’m glad I was a child in NYC of all places. It was during the 80’s what San Francisco was during the 60’s. The epicenter of cultural movements. You could feel the energy. Nowadays you can barely even see traces of that. Still a vibrant city, but nothing like it was when Madonna could be heard all over the place.
You are a champ for including that screenshot at 0:33 - like, I can't see your cape in the shots but I'm assuming you own one because you're a hero. This is what so many people leave out, consciously or not. This is so well done, and straight to the point. Thank you!!
I spoke to Jellybean who produced it and he said the original bass was from the Minimoog. This is really good, well done!!! Sounds just perfect. All hail the Juno!
It is indeed from the minimoog... but all these analog synths can produce extremely similar sounds. I'm liking the sound the Juno here more, but that could be a lot of factors other than the synth, from processing to just pure loudness.
Minimoog could make sense - it defo can sound like that - but it would be (to my simple opinion) weird in an aesthetic & technological perspective. The song was produced with toptier technologies of the moment centered around a MSQ700, so rather MIDI, DCB and timecode sync ; typically what a Minimoog doesn't have. Lots of the tracks were sampled with an Emulator II, I sometimes believe the bass would have been sampled too, which would give this super rigid sound. The Minimoog phases out a lot when you play it, it can't be that regular! If the original producer says it was a Minimoog, then I'd rather think it was a sampled one x) But as the other instruments were Obis and Junos only, it seemed logical the bass would come from a 106 too...
This is actually phatter than the original! Hat's off dude! What interface do you use to record your analog synths into a DAW? Would be much appreciated :)
Yahuuu thanks :D Actually it was straight to my lil Scarlett 6i6 at that moment ^^ Probably sounds a bit better than the original recording because my sidechain amounts were stronger than on the original song - that has apparently no sidechain (sounds like bus compressors but no other glue things)
@@AnthonyRochester lol!!!!! Flock of Seagulls were one of the first bands to use sequencers live.....such a tremendous invention, it is the heart of my MIDI studio......drummers HATE playing along with sequencers, because now, you have to keep perfect rhythm....fortunately, with mine, I can break the song down into various parts so you can keep your concentration up better as you perfect each section...of course, playing LIVE you don't have that luxury..
@@AnthonyRochester honestly Anthony, I don't know.....the reason I do know about the Flock is because I was in on the synthesizer revolution back in the early 80s and used to read up on a lot of the groups and what they did...I have bought so many of these keyboards in my days, but that was the beginning back then and it was a revelation. this is one of the dopest bassline ive ever heard, and i heard a lot of them, amazing re-creation here, congrats ! this analog ound drive me crazy since forever
Fantastic job!! Excellent playing! I just have always loved that bassline. It really grooves that dance beat hard on the floor. You can’t help but get on the dance floor and move to it!
Such a beautiful track. It's definitely getting me in the groove. I would definitely play this track if you would make it into a full instrumental track.
Nothing cheesy about the unadulterated electronic beauty of vintage analog synths. They got ditched during the digital age because they couldn’t accurately emulate “real” instruments; they always sounded electronic, always like … synths? But I think now most of us realize that the fact that they couldn’t sound like “real” instruments is the whole point. The pure, raw electronic sound of analog synths is beautiful.
Who needs a sequencer. We got you. It speaks so well of the original synth. I own at least 3 VSTs of this synth. It motivates me to tweak my presets to see if I can get there. Great video.
its crazy how fast and easy it is to get these KILLER sounds out of the Junos. can you get these sounds out of other synths? of course. but is there just something about the Juno the lends itself to making great sounds simply? hell yeah. love it.

Madonna really did surround herself with the very best musicians. Not enough credit is given to the studio musicians of this period.
Indeed! Not enough credits nowadays either...
👍🏻💯

I have to say Madonna’s songs back then were some of the best. Her first album was gold!

what a killer bassline! well played too
Thanks so much Woody! ^^

Praise indeed coming from Woody piano Shack !
Love 80’s synth bass sounds!! ❤

Yep it hits good with a nice sub
Go listen to a load of old 80's pop music. You'd be suprised just how much of it has these funky bass lines.
That heavy bass that hangs over at the end of the phrase is amazing!
