really great that you are still using the G9 for video as you have the Gh6 i think the g9 is a great camera for both stills and video and it doesn't get the praise it should as most videographers/ photographers on here are Sony/Canon/Nikon users. thankyou for the info.
@@RedFrameTech not sure if you have already covered the topic, but how about how to shoot videos in manual mode and how to use a variable nd filter when shooting videos. You can do both in the same video.
Thank you for producing this video, very helpful. I never tire learning from more experienced people than myself, and you definitely are one of those. I am using more ProRes full 5728 x 3024, 422 HQ, LPCM at 15. Gpbs and am enjoying it greatly. The sharpness and color depth is amazing and I wonder if you use this file format for your outdoor video as well. Thank you
Thanks for watching! Yes, I do sometimes use those codecs and resolutions with my GH6. And there’s a clear sharpness and color benefit to it. Especially for outdoor/wildlife. But for storage reasons I don’t use it all the time.
Hello, this is information with which you as a hobby filmmaker can really start something, thank you very much for that. A subscription, of course. Best regards from northern Germany, Bernd
Hi I think I have watched most of your video's and thoroughly enjoy your presentation's. I use the G9 and the 100-400 combo the same but I have a small problem maybe you or any of your subscriber's may be able to help with. The contact between the camera body and the Lens has a slight twisting /rocking movement especially when using the stiff zoom, it is not a lot but I wonder if it would effect the weather sealing, or anything else, it's also a case always being aware of it which is a nuisance and a bit of a worry. Many Thanks Terry
Hi Terry! I have the same thing with the G9+100-400. I think it is the design of (some copies) of the 100-400. I’m planning on getting it to a shop to have it looked at, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. However, I don’t think it can do much harm. And I think the weather sealing is still there, as the lens is still against the flange. It just has some play in the bajonet locking mechanism of the lens mount. When I get around to having it looked at, I’ll make sure to make a video about it.
@@RedFrameTech WoW, thank you for the extremely quick response, It got to the stage where I wouldn't use the the Camera and Lens together, although the camera was ok on my other Lenses, 12-60,,12-35 etc. I like my video's so I bit the bullet and bought a Canon HF G50 Video Camera, it has a 600% zoom range, gives a great picture, and is a delight to use, bit of overkill I know but as I am an older retired guy I really needed the convenience without the worry of the Camera and Lens falling apart. It also looks like I will let the shop have a look, although I do not have a lot of faith in them having been bitten in the past. I look forward to your video on this and all your other content as I am sure many people will. Have a great New Year and many thanks Terry
Useful video. I have the gh6 and the 100-400mm and I have rails and base plate, just veen trying to work out a way that I can mount it and still swap in my olympus 300mm and 2x tele for when I want more reach and dont need the zoom. Might have to make a video myself when I finally put it together! Do you have the Image stabilisation on when using on the tripod?
Thanks! Yeah, swapping lenses on such a rig can be a bit of a faff.. to be honest, I don't think there is a perfect way of swapping different(ly) (designed)lenses on a rig, unless you use cine lenses. But that's no good for wildlife. How is the Old 300+tele working for you? Haven't tried that lens myself. I do have DUAL-IS on with the 100-400 on the tripod. No weird thing have happened so far. Subscribed to your channel, waiting for the video you're going to come out with. No pressure 😄😉
Very interesting indeed. I especially like the rails for your camera for the100-400 lens. Hopefully this will give a more stable base for my GH6 + 100-400 lens. I also like the big battery at the back powering your Ninja. Could such a battery power my Ninja and GH6 at the same time? For personal preference I have two ND filters of 3-Stop and 6-Stop. They cover me for everything all the way from night time to mid-day harsh sunlight. I realise that a variable ND filter speeds things up, because it really can be a faff to change my filters. Its a case of what you lose on the swings you gain on the round-abouts. 🤣😂 If you are looking for ND Filters with zero colour cast, then I can highly recommend Breakthrough Filters. They are a company based in San Francisco and they have never let me down yet with their brass construction with ridges all around for better grip.
Hi Frank! Yes, the battery I use can power both your GH6 (trough USB C) and power the Ninja V (D-tap). Thanks for the tip on the ND filters. I am definitely going to look into those. I have been playing around with some square fixed NDs in my matte box. But it’s such a faff..
@@RedFrameTech I've been considering a Matt Box but it would be quite spendy buying more ND filters, and you suggesting that it is a bit of a faff has put my mind at ease and I won't invest a shed load of cash in a box plus filters. May I ask what kind of battery and rail system I should be considering please?
@@RedFrameTech You probably already know about this, however I recommend you buy ND filters for the largest diameter lenses you use. You can then use step-up or step-down rings to get the filters to go on smaller lenses. When I started using ND filters, I only had three lenses all the same filter size (58mm). And, then I got sucked into the expensive hobby of buying bigger diameter lenses. This required me to smash open my piggy-bank to buy duplicate ND filters for larger glass. Because of all the glass I bought for my MFT lens, I could not afford to move up to full-frame. It would cost £20k to replace my glass. 😭😭 And considering I get around 100 views per episode I put onto UA-cam, my other half would kill me.
@@frankinblackpool Hi Frank. The battery I'm using is the FXLion Nano One. But I have to say, it's probably better to go with the Nano Two since both the GH6 and the Ninja are quite power hungry. I had a shoot for a documentary the other night and the Nano one last about 3 hours powering only the ninja. I was freezing cold though, which affects battery life quite a bit. The rail system is really nothing special. just some 15mm rods and a baseplate and then you can customize to your own needs. There are links to some parts in the description, but it's really something you need to tailor it to your own needs. But if you want to know anything about a specific part, let me know :)
@@frankinblackpool I do buy large diameter filters when I buy them, but thanks ;) I am considering a similar ND system to what you're using. It's a never ending quest for the perfect solution..😅
Can you capture clean HDMI in ProRes on the Ninja 5+ while capturing h265 on the internal v90 cards on the G9 2 simultaneously? FYI Your videos are great! I’ve learned a lot from you.
You know it’s a smaller mirrorless because the tripod’s center post is raised all the way up. ;) That probably wouldn’t work well with a DSLR and 100-400 telezoom.
I have a problem and its making me feel so, so, so sad.😭😭 I took my G9 out for its first video project along with my GH6 to film the local Starlings murmurating at the beach. And I was shocked to discover that my G9 has a recording limit. AAaaagggggg! Do you know of any way to remove this disgraceful limitation on my desire to fill my SD card with unlimited ones and zeros? Cheers
I know… it’s a shame. But it is the way it is, unless you use something like a Ninja V. That’s how I work around the recording limit on longer shoots. It’s one of the things that doesn’t make it a GH but a G series camera. I do think it is bs though and they should lift the limit in a fw update. Which unfortunately is not very likely to happen. But it’s still great for video imo within its limits
A few reasons; I can place my microphone a bit more forward, it makes it easier to attach other accessories and when I use an external monitor I don’t want to put to much stress on the hot shoe of the camera. So I mount it to the cage
Wow! Good teacher
Thank you!
As always, intelligent and practical suggestions with good explanations. Thank you.

I like the way that you set up the g9. I think keeping it simple, as you do, is the best way to go.
Thanks. Yeah, I think keeping it simple makes you focus more on what you’re filming
More G9 videos pleaseeeee!
There will be 🙂 anything in particular you’d like to see? Let me know
