I'm very late into the New Year, but thank you so much for watching! Have had a LOT of personal business to tend to but the next few week should be pretty loaded with videos. I've had a lot of great friends from all over the WORLD help out to get these old cars OUT and bring the new ones in (and hopefully get them working)! Wishing everyone a Healthy and Prosperous New Year!!!
Not so sure about that emblem swap on the airbag though... looking at the old airbag, it kinda looks like the cover is designed to split around the emblem during deployment... wondering if the swapped emblem might cause deployment issues that could injure you (e.g. a flying emblem to the face!)
That was actually a great update. Good to see so many companies producing kits for manual conversions in this cars, the reality is that for a 360 is not the price that stops the F1 system to be repaired, is the parts that are getting hard and in some cases impossible to get, so manual is the only option for keeping them on the road. And Happy New Year Sam
Toyota and Lexus owners wondering what the big fuss is about mileage. 25,000 miles is Toyota delivery mileage. 250,000 miles is low/break-in mileage. Thanks for the great videos Sam🙏
In your situation with that pan plug stuck behind things, I'd use a ball valve type replacement plug that won't start draining until you plug the drain hose into it. It's $50, but stainless steel and once it's on you never have to worry about spills, mess, crush washers, or stripped drian plug threads again, as it's good for the lifetime of the car.
Hey Samcrac..copper crush washers are reusable. All you need to do is heat them with a propane torch until cherry red. Let cool, clean them off, and they're good to go. I've used this method for over 20 years on oil pan lugs, as well as banjo bolts for brakes, etc. Never had a failure yet!
These cars use Magneti-Marelli ETM's and these suffer from wear on the resistive tracks. It makes the throttle judder and ABS/CC fail. (Same as Volvo S60/V70 2000-2003?) A company called Xemodex makes coversions where they convert the ETM from mechanical to magnetische. Way more reliable. Recommended.
Excellent update! That should infuriate the person who spent about 1/2 mil on a vehicle only to find out the same parts are used in a variety of other Italian brands belonging to the major Fiat company... Oh well.. at least this helps keep the vehicles on the road after a crash. That Dr. S kit is fantastic! Pickup a reasonable 430 and swap out that awful F1 system. Can't wait to see the next installment.
I always change oil on my Mercedes and VW cars with an extractor. It's factory recommended for Mercedes, and on VW, there's not but maybe a teaspoon or two of oil left in the pan. This is made up for, by using the extractor tube to suck the old oil out of the oil filter mount after removing the filter. As someone else said here, be careful the dipstick tube doesn't "curl up" when it hits the bottom of the oil pan when you insert, otherwise it will poke up from the bottom of the oil pan, and you won't get it all. I carefully move it around. Finally, he was using one of those cheap plastic electric extractors commonly found on Amazon, with mixed reviews and varying failures. I spent about $20 more and bought a metal one. It works just fine, and seems like it will hold up.
Vw and most Merc's are not dry sump engines, these have multiple low points other than the sump and thus have mulitiple drain plugs. A dip stick suction will not get to the oil in the other low points. This engine has four some lambos have 8, a Bugati veyron has 12....
A recent discovery on my 4200. When changing the oil with the front end raised up, a lot of oil does not drain until the car is lowered back down and level (probably about a quart!). I've got a really low profile oil catch pan that I purchased from the Harley dealership that still fits under there when the car isn't jacked up. Just a tip for your next oil change. Also, when I bought mine it had been almost 5 years from its last oil change!
you always helping out viewers with how to and new ideas on getting parts on the best way possible and its such a great help knowing that people can save on your research. .keep up the great work 😀🤑
This is gotta be one of the coolest Internet upgrades, hands-down. It beats any stupid video of straight, piping a car and calling that video. This conversion is going to be so important to so many people with so many different cars. My only question is the ECU! What programming needs to be changed and who updates the program.?
The Maserati airbag was close but it has an embossed horn logo since the Maserati has a normal horn where you push the airbag. The Ferrari has two horn buttons one on each side of the wheel not the airbag. Is it worth a coupe of grand not to have an embossed horn logo where one shouldn’t be? That depends on how original you want the car, in the case of this 599, the answer is not worth it with all the other non original parts. Just pointing this out for those people who think you can swap Ferrari parts for cheaper ones from a similar model and they are 100% identical. Heck with Ferrari sometimes different models with the same part number are actually different internally and don5 work the same. When ordering Ferrari parts you sometimes have to give the model and chassis number to get the right part which makes used parts really fun.
There's a lot of premium cars out there like this, reason being many folks that buy them have no money for service or even premium tyres. Seen these many many times.
ohh , I miss that Maserati so much !! was sure you already sold it. Here in Europe the 4200 finally gets the recognition it always deserved - Especially the manual gear (got one) Honestly it's the nicest car you got there. Did not see the video yet ..Try to change the pill in the remote -if not, try to reset the car by switching it completely off with the switch in the trunk above the battery. Mazal Tov ;-)
The oil change sticker doesn't necessarily indicate when the oil change happened. I have some that are stuck on because the idiots at the garage used a paper sticker and it's one of the things I never get around to removing properly.
This, many people don't take the stickers off if they do it themselves or even some mechanics don't remove it as they don't want to clean the windshield
Ha Ha.... As an electronics hobbyist, I love how you glossed right past that 'surface mount' soldering job. You made no mention of magnifying loupes and the ensuing curse words!
“One of the most beautiful engine bay ever made…with these Powder coated, red VALVE COVER GASKETS, with the Maserati script on top”. 😂😂😂😂! Love it Samcrac
Penzoil is great, I always buy it on sale at Walmart, it flows so much better than conventional oil. However, for engines with a lot of mileage, full synthetic oil flows so good that the engine can develop oil leaks. That's why, for worn engines, I prefere conventional oil.
Joo Sam, I really don't recommend doing an oil change by sucking out the old oil simply because you don't get rid of the sludge in the oil pan. I know a few manufacturers do it this way, but it's just silly and could cost you big time in the long run. Just my two cents. Love the V8 Italian, keep it up brother.
Hey Sam since you might still be lurking in the comments. 1) Pennzoil is the best, I agree. 2) Going back to that C4, can you make a fun video and sell it to me for essentially nothing "Selling the Cheapest C4 Corvette in the USA."
Always enjoy your videos. Lots of information on the various projects you are working on. I also appreciate the camera work where you show what is going on, what will be done and what it looks like after the repair is complete. Great job Sam!!!

those are the same pump systems you use on boats.....the pickup tube should be rigid so you can push it down to the bottom of the tank/pan. if it's flexible if you push it too far it'll curl up and miss a bunch of oil. The Maserati is made in a different factory, and not in the Ferrari premises at all. I'll buy the pile of Italian crap for the price of aluminum per pound. $.45 a pound sounds fair enough, right!?
Do what you need to do. As long as you’re good we’re good.
Glad you’re back! Was missing your videos but totally understand you have a life to live too!
Family first no matter what! Great to see you back Sam.
Glad we could be of help Sam! It’s gonna be slick when it’s done 😁
Sam is the true embodiment of the Shade Tree mechanic! Even if he did get a lift. Fixing Ferraris in the pasture is so homeboy :-)
Fabulous video Sam! You got so much done! 😉
Sad to see you listed the Maserati for auction at a reserve rather than a no-reserve starting at your minimum.

Love the airbag lift, what a great idea as so much easier to use than a jack.
Samcrac saying 'when you do the job yourself, you know it's done right" is the most unintentionally hilarious thing I've ever heard 🤣
He’s really going for that Penzoil sponsorship. 🤑
what? tip-top reconditioned car but failed to change oil in two years of ownership...Still very desirable car.
Toyota and Lexus owners wondering what the big fuss is about mileage. 25,000 miles is Toyota delivery mileage. 250,000 miles is low/break-in mileage. Thanks for the great videos Sam🙏

You know when you have a good car when the Speedo says your going 15 mph and it isn’t even running.

That Maserati is sweet especially with the manual
Your knowledge of cars is amazing, especially for parts, I don't think many people would have found such a good solution for the air bags.
Been missing the videos so it great to see ya back .
The engine bay looks amazing. The back 2/3 reminds me of a 2000 Monte Carlo.
