One of my favorite themes of the game it's theit love of art itself, they say bad artists copy, but good ones steal.
Signalis is such a piece that shows you clearly what inspired it and isn't afraid nor ashame to show it to you, how they use their references and make them to themselves, I love how you don't need to really know those references but it endorse your experience, for example my friend play it and didn't get the Evangelion episode 25 reference, the one where all the characters flash inside of Shinji, where for Shinji is he realizing he isn't alone, that he isn't an island, meanwhile for Elster is reafirming the idea that she's been there before, that she's stuck on a cycle, as well Elster breaking her arm it's a rotoscopie of Major Kusanagi breaking her limbs as well, both showing how little they care about their machinery bodies in favor of their objectives. You use Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake to open Falke's owl box, who could herself being a reference to Odile, the black swan who is the daughter of Baron Von Rothbart who is represented as an owl and fools Prince Siegfried to make Odile -Falke- look like Princess Odette -Ariane-, at the end both Siegfried and Odette being reunited by death -wink-.
Even their use of art in the universe itself, why does this militant regime has pieces like Isle of The Death and Saturn eating his Son on their replaceable soldiers dormants? Ariane it's cast away for her love of art and creation of it. It feels exactly like how art it's use and consume nowadays, just like a decour, without much thought of appreciation of it, just something to put and never think much about it, how corporations treat creatives, leaving them behind and using them just as tools for their business.
I love Signalis, it's a beautiful piece of art, I can't wait too see the seed of inspiration that planted to bloom and inspire many other artists through the years, through the indie-videogame scene or anyone who gets inspired by it.

Thank you for your perspective! This is definitely something I could've touched on myself if I had noticed it sooner, fortunately you did it for me. I think I was scratching the edges of it at a couple points but this definitely could've used a whole segment. Regardless, thanks so much for your comment; I love getting lengthy stuff like this, it makes me feel like the insane investment I put into my projects are worth it. Hope to see you around here, glad you love Signalis as much as me!

I genuinely love seeing that about 2 years after it's release, people are still making videos about this kinda small indie game

Oh, friend, there are so many little details that can help your experience be better. Not gonna list all of them, just a few.
    a) Alina likely died 10 years ago on Vineta, there is a picture appearing very briefly of Lilith standing in shallow water, placing a flower on one of 6 gravestones (like the ones in secret ending). Since their unit was 8 people, and she and Rebecca [don't remember the last name] were the ones who were present on Rot Front later, that likely means that Alina is one of the 6 that didn't make it out of Vineta. You're probably right that once Ariane "took over" Sierpinski, she just recreated Alina, like she recreated Isa, and possibly all of the Elsters that kept trying to reach the gate and fulfill the promise.
    b) Since Empire and Nation are very much modeled after West and East Germany, their respective terribleness, and the tragedy of people caught between the two is very authentic. I say this as someone living in post-Soviet space. The Penrose triangle, which is the icon for the game and the logo for the program, is literally an impossible shape. It can't be more clear that the mission is designed to be impossible. The 512 is likely a serial number, with 511 other ships preceding this one, and LSTR being the Landship Survey Technician Replika are designed to be deployed on Penrose ships specifically, which are in turn designed to be mass-produced and sent on a one-way trip into cold emptiness of space, to "Demonstrate technological superiority of the Nation". It's not a case of them hoping to actually find anything or deal with dangerous individuals. There's not enough light and warmth in Oort cloud for habitable worlds, any planet you find there will be a deep-frozen wasteland. Nation just takes loners and misfits, pairs them with a loner replika, and shoots them with fanfare into nothingness, never to be heard from again. Yes, a totalitarian nation would absolutely kill hundreds of people to create a fake image of greatness, they wouldn't even have any seconds thoughts.
    c) There is at least one shot of Falke that is literally a repaint of Ariane's face from later (and is also probably a visual reference to Ghost in the Shell). Couple that with the fact that Falke is the clone of the Great Revolutionary, a strongly bioresonant individual and leader of the Nation, and you have a startling clue that perhaps Ariane is not just very similar to Alina, but also maybe to the Great Revolutionary? And since Empress of the Empire is also a strongly bioresonant individual, maybe she's also part of the same stock? Sort of bioresonace-created echoes of each other, clones, but not genetic clones, more like bioresonance (maybe inadvertently) creating/molding nearly identical messiah/chosen figures by affecting them before birth? I hope developers do something with this.
A couple of things I choose to believe:
    a) there is no eldritch being, it's all just Ariane and her dream. The red eye is just her watching over the dream, as she's very noticeably an albino, with white hair and red eyes (and a great addition to a pantheon of anime girls with naturally red eyes, yay!)
    b) The "promise" was never to kill Ariane. To get the "promise" ending, you need to take a lot of damage, deal a lot of damage, and take more than 12 hours to complete the game. At that point, a very damaged, tired and worn down Elster would choose to just end her lover's suffering, but that's not necessarily it, not what this warrior woman would endure all of this for, not to just kill her little goddess. The real promise is to be together again, even if in the middle of a ship/world that is long-abandoned and falling apart, which is what they achieve in the secret ending.
    c) A lot of German art and literature through the ages is about fear of a giant impending catastrophe, but also about finding solace amid the ruins of the world after it has all ended, so I agree with your optimistic take. I'm not an art scholar, but deep integration of this theme is what makes Signalis a definitive modern German masterpiece for me.
Sorry, this was long, but this is what Signalis does to my brain >.

I actually really dig this causal conversationalist approach to discussing the game. So much of Signalis is equally objective as it is subjective, and it poses so many complicated questions that don't have a single clear answer. It's a wonderfully dense game to talk about.

Great video. I hate to suggest things in other creator's comments, but anyone wondering what the hell happened in Signalis, I suggest Power Pak's video. I think it's the clearest, and probably closest we can possibly get, to the truth.

Trust me lmao income is not much of a concern on here yet. I’m in school and have a job outside this, and while I am TECHNICALLY monetized, it doesn’t amount to much typically. I do actually enjoy doing this, otherwise I wouldn’t upload at all. Thanks for the continued support though, I always love seeing familiar faces around here!
