First I have to say I’m a newbie to VW so sorry for newbies questions.
Second, I agree with everything you say about tunes and power. I’d like to make a lot of power but safely.
My question is the DSG. I’m thinking of purchasing a MK8 Golf. Does tuning the DSG mean affecting the gear ratio? Can you stop the auto shifting when getting in the high rpm rev ranges?
With a manual, I would have to worry about a clutch holding the power. Would I have to worry about power not holding on a DSG?
Thank you for the response and video.

After flashing the stage 1 tune on my Golf 8 R, the car has come alive. The process was easy. App is awesome. We are living in the future. Holding thumbs for the TCU to be unlocked.

I think you made explaining what Unitronic did more difficult than it has to be. 8Y 337 HP stock is what it dynoed crank but they’re calculating the delta off the manufacturer stated output of 306 HP.

As a MK7 GTI owner and a member of a MK7 Facebook group I constantly see FB comments from GTI owners that I presume are young men and some women that only seem to be interested in and care about the highest advertised power metrics from any given tuner. The first thing many of these GTI owners do to their stock GTI’s is increase power with an ECU tune from a tuner with the highest advertised HP numbers. As a matured GTI owner (60 yrs old) I believe that the chassis and suspension need to be upgraded first in order to handle any increase in engine performance. Straight line performance can be intoxicating, but truly fast cars can and should be able to corner with speed and predictable composure as well. Unfortunately in our current culture, truth in advertising is a rare and diminishing virtue. Thank you 034 for trying to be truthful and honest with your customers. You may not gain the biggest piece of the tuner market pie with truth and honesty, but your dividends will be realized elsewhere, I’m sure of it. ☮️

I still think the best indicator is 1/4 mile times and trap speed obviously. I think for the most part all the tunes from the big brands should drive and feel very similar. Just preference at this point

Definitely is one of the best indicators however, I have spoke with a couple unitronic owners (I am myself as well) who have taken the car to the dragstrip and ran both unitronic stage 1 and stage 1+ tunes back to back and the numbers showed like 2mph higher trap speed and to me the tunes arent even close to feeling the same. The stage 1+ rips way harder across the entire powerband. The person who ran the numbers also was on low tq files though which is definitely holding back the 1+ tune alot.

    8Y S3 STAGE 3
"034Motorsport Stage 3 Performance ECU Software for the EA888 Gen 4 2.0T engines are currently in development!"
Can you comment on this at all with a post or video, what is the plan? My assumption is turbo and fuel injector upgrade, can you give any details?
    Thank you

We do not have finalized details on the Golf R / S3 side of development yet. We hope to release details of that soon.

We’ve ran an 11.3 and had customers run similar times. 0-60 times are around the low to mid 3 second range

Just looked at the numbers and yeah. It definitely looks like the “+x hp” is (tuned, measured, corrected for drivetrain loss)-(stock, not measured, manufacturer claimed).
You make a good point. Unitronic is being dishonest by claiming you’re gaining that much power.
However, you guys are also doing the same thing if you’re using the manufacturer claimed HP and comparing that to a measured result that has been corrected. Maybe you can explain if/how I’m wrong here, but you’re trusting the manufacturer when it’s been half a decade of VW group under-rating the EA888 power figures. The MK7 absolutely does make ~220 whp stock (with a lot of consistent dyno runs and cars to back up this data).
The best way is to measure whp before and after you tune, and give a %power gain figure comparing those numbers. Your control data can’t just be a meaningless, unverifiable number from the manufacturer, especially when we have a ton of data showing these engines have been underrated in the past.

We have both crank, and tested wheel horsepower listed on our website, with wheel horsepower stock and tuned as measured in house on our dyno. Crank figures are based upon the calculated drivetrain loss amounts from the wheel horsepower figures. You can see this in the dyno charts section on our tuning webpages.

@@034MotorsportUncut I see, so you actually did end up at 316 crank, calculated off the stock dyno. That might be just me not listening well enough, apologies, I had thought the 316 was the crank HP number for the Golf R. Thanks for the reply and clarification!
