    Top job. Buxus takes ages to grow but looks great after a few years.

      I keep having to go back to this video to check how much they've grown. You tell that they're in the swing of things now - only a few more years to go! 🤣

      Box is incredibly slow growing. That's gonna take some time to fill in 😀 but good luck 👍

    Nice. I did the same two months ago with similar sized hedges. B&M £2 each :D

    What did you fill he sleeper box with? is it topsoil all the way or is there a layer of stone at the bottom to allow for drainage?

    Great video, would love to see a short video update on this ? Have they all grown up?

      It's a mix at the moment (mainly because of the dog!). I'll post an update video soon. Some are growing great, others not so much. It's the dog's favourite place to wee and I think the nitrogen has just overwhelmed some of the plants!

    Looks good mate. How do you cut the grass edges neat. I bought a cheap strimmer but can't see the string when its moving and keep balding my lawn when trying to use it

      Cheers 👍🏻
      I used to use a Challenge strummer that I picked up from Argos, only a cheap thing, but the cord would shorted every time it touched a wall or the floor. The Bosch one I use now doesn’t really have that problem, not as bad anyway. It must just be a better quality cord inside.
      Being able to flip it help too so that you can cut along the edges vertically.

      I picked them up from my local garden centre. I'm sure it was 3 bags for £12 (it was in that region anyway!).
      I'm hoping they don't discolour too much but I guess only time will tell 🤞🏻

    Great Video, I’m really enjoying your series! Have you set up irrigation for your box hedges or do you water manually? Is the membrane porous?

    • @NoviceGardener
      @NoviceGardener  Рік тому

      The membrane is porous and I've just been watering it manually, but only when we don't have rain. Luckily, we've had quite a bit over the past couple of weeks which has helped. I'm looking to install a water butt at some point to save having to get the hose pipe out every time!

    I have followed the same steps. However, my hedges started to die out. I remover some of the stones around the hedges. The soil was way too moist, so I think there was too much water retention. I will let it air and probably add some plant feed. How is yours fairing?

    • @NoviceGardener
      @NoviceGardener  11 місяців тому

      That may be the case. I think my soil is draining ok as there is quite a lot of gravel below and a french drain. Mine are doing ok on one side, however, the dog has taken to weeing on the other side which has resulted in his favourite hedges turning a bit yellow!

    How do you water the plant with so much rock and the weed fabric around them? Does it not need to be watered?

    • @NoviceGardener
      @NoviceGardener  11 місяців тому

      It's still able to soak through where the holes were cut.

    How do you put down bone meal when you've got this membrane down❓👍

      It's a bit more fiddly when it comes to this. It's something I'll be doing next weekend so I'll see how tough it is. I imagine it may be!

      You should be able to see how they're looking in a few of my most recent videos. They've grown quite a bit since. It will still be some time before they start to merge together though!
