To hide the brickwork, you could try horizontal cladding using roof batten timber. My friends have done this and it's really effective, both visually and cost. They've space the gaps in such a way so they can insert planters at various heights to add visual interest. Have really enjoyed your garden renovation and keep coming back to your retaining wall videos as we want to do something similar. Well done
Nice one! That's something I'm considering doing this summer. I've luckily only got a few weeks left in work so I should hopefully have more time for big projects!
Nice work that mate. Ive warched all your videos for some inspiration on our mess of a garden. I consider myself an expert DIYer and im currently tackling a raised patio and sleeper wall to mask the old retaining wall (was quoted 5k just for the patio) so far, our sleepers have cost £400 (25 no 8 x 4 x 8' long) and 70 no 900 x 600 porcelain tiles were just shy of £900. Recycled type 1 is going to cost me £120. Not sure on sand and cement yet and ill probably make my own slurry. I would VLOG it but im 52 and wouldnt know where to start.....😂
Thanks so much for your videos. I started watching ages ago and kept coming back. Did my retaining wall after watching you. Just seeded lawn yesterday. It's no where near as flat but is about 160 sqm and I did the best I could 🙄
Hiya really love the work you have done in the garden, planning on renovating my garden soon. I have one quick question what software were you using to design the garden?
I'm looking to put something on the wall next spring - maybe trellis. I may even put a flower bed on the right hand side with some larger plants to try and soften the brickwork at the back.
Hi. Loved your video. Just a question, regarding hard core compaction, did you had to hire that machine you were using? How much did it cost you? Thank you
I hired a compactor plate from HSS. It was around about £40 I think for a couple of days. It may have been slightly more or less. However, just check the reviews for where you hire one. I hired the one I used from HSS and had to pay a deposit of £110 which was supposed to be back in my account 2 working days after taking it back. Almost 3 weeks i took! Got it back after numerous phone calls.
How much topsoil did you use? I can't find it for any less than around £90 a ton and I think I need about ten tons and that is just to cover some old crappy soil with loads of weeds and small stones in it on an 80 sq.m garden.
If I was you, I'd try and contact a local supplier. For one bulk bag from the big names, you're looking at well over £100 - it's unbelievable! I got in touch with a local top soil supplier that I found on Google and managed to get a decent quote with it being dumped loose on the driveway.
@@NoviceGardener Thanks. Yeah, I have noticed that there seems to be a bit of a "discount" if you get it loose. I think that's the way to go. I think the bulk bags are getting smaller and the prices going up. I have seen them as low as 600 litres now for around £120.
@NoviceGardener maybe a small tree or something some stones maybe a drain. I saw once someone fitted a like water system and everytime there dog did a week it would water that bit and wash the wee away
Absolutely amazing. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. You both done a wonderful job on the makeover. I watched each video.

Cheers!
Same. Such an amazing makeover. 😊

That's great! It's hard graft but very satisfying once complete!
Understand about the bbq but autumn/winter is also a great time to get one, often heavily discounted
That's a great shout!
Well done mate been following for months
Nice one!
I really had come out nicely hadn’t it mate !
Hiya really love the work you have done in the garden, planning on renovating my garden soon. I have one quick question what software were you using to design the garden?
I just used notability for the iPad.
You could do a resin bound on the edging that your dog is digging up. Nice and easy to maintain too. Are you going to paint that back red wall?

Can I ask what software you used to plan the garden on the tablet/iPad?

For 4 grand that is immense value. Obviously your time has value but as a labour of love it's got to be well worth it.
It was definitely worth it! Although it took a while, we were able to tweak and change things as we went - just gave us good flexibility.
The space for the bbq should be used for the dog
That's not a bad shout!
@NoviceGardener maybe a small tree or something some stones maybe a drain. I saw once someone fitted a like water system and everytime there dog did a week it would water that bit and wash the wee away
That is very cheap £2500. keep it up :). Just following your steps.
Nice one!
Good luck with your renovation!
What did you use to draw up the garden on the iPad?
I used notability for the iPad.
Dog for sale free to a good home 😂
just get rid of the dog,.
