Everyone has a shoulda/woulda/coulda about the 4C instead of enjoying it for what it is. Thank god Italians don’t give a shit about what other people think; their attitude, “Don’t like the car? Don’t buy it.” I love my 4C just as it is, drive the shit out of it, and will probably keep it the rest of my life. But, it’s not for everyone and that’s okay. BTW, visually gorgeous video!!! Nicely mixed audio. Comparison graphics are well done.
To achieve the magazine 0-60 you put the car in race mode, then hold a paddle to let you do the full 6500 RPM clutch dump. It's super hard on your transmission but it's there.
The quarter mile et and trap speed may have been improved by shifting before redline. That stock turbo turned up is probably making peak power and out of breath much earlier in the revs therefore each redline shift is putting you outside of the powerband. This was true for when my STI was on the stock turbo and my previous WRX.
I'd be shocked if a 4c was faster than the F430, which is pretty close to a C6Z in acceleration. And honestly, for a car that's carbon fiber and only has a 1.8L 4 cylinder, I would expect it to be lighter than my SL-C with it's LS3! BTW, congrats on the Lotus!
Still one of the best modern bargains out there. I'm pretty sure that the stage 2 4C only beat the F430 in 0-60 and maybe 1/4 mile by a hair. I remember it was also on an airstrip and the video was made by EuroCompulsion so it might be one sided. If you ask me, I'd still go F430, you can get them used for like 80K these days.
Just curious, when doing the performance test was the car in race mode? Only asking because I thought the dials change to a yellow colour scheme when in race mode, which didn't seem to be the case during the launch. Alas I could be wrong!!!
My 4C AND my Abarth phase 2 tunes were both underwhelming. On a mainline dyno my 4C made exactly the same hp as before the flash. I’ve moved on to a tune from HDtuning and picked up nearly 50whp.
Sorry my TTRS had a flat tire but I’m here! +70 hp is a lot for such a light car! More boost likely. That’s nice Honestly I’d never get an auto trans in a car this small. It’s just not practical. I’ll check out that spreadsheet man. Nice vid again
All good my friend. Better late than never. You know, I still have yet to test a stock TTRS or RS3. I think I have to make that a priority since I hear they might be going away soon. Turbo cars have so much potential. But you're right, I've been driving the Lotus for a few days now after I gave the 4C back and there's no comparison. The Lotus sounds like a race car while the 4C kinda sounds like a glorified vacuum cleaner (a little mean but it's the truth). I think 350HP is the sweet spot for the 4C for me. Any more wouldn't be usable on the track IMO and that's where I care. I'll catch you in the vids next year bro.
Track Day they are discontinuing the in-line 5 in 2022 so yeah, your chances are running out slowly for sure. The lotus definitely sounds like more of a race car, and now I want one thanks to you
Trying to decide on my next car and it’s between this and the giulia quadrifoglio. The quad has 505 hp but it’s 0-60 compared to the 237hp 4c is only .3 seconds faster which is crazy. The quad is 3.8 second avg 0-60 and the 4c is 4.1 0-60. Guess it comes down to comfort at that point right?
The fastest times were in race mode, I just showed Dynamic mode because the sun kind of overexposed the camera when I did the race mode test. I don't launch cars on this channel because (1) they aren't press cars they are personal cars of people and I don't want to abuse them and (2) I focus on what I call "real life" standing times which replicates what would happen if you decided to just give it a go at a stop light because not every car has an easy launch mode. I'm sure that the P2 tune is capable of a sub 4 second time.
Track Day sorry I post a comment before and now it is clear to me. But you can do half launch, using in race put the brake and full acceleration without shifting the left paddle.
Very well done video but i think you missing the point on this car. All those times how fast the car is now at 0-60, 0-100, quarter mile and whatever are totally not important. This car is a fun tool to race on curvy roads and race tracks. The outstanding performance is the combination of power, weight, brake power, handling etc. Who needs to be fast on a straight line in such a car, if you want to be fast in a drag race, you don't need to buy this car at all. I drive my 4c on a stock engine and upgraded the suspension to kW V2 and changed from the stock sport-exhaust to a much less noisy inoxcar-racing exhaust. I think that's what the car needs as upgrades cus there is no lack of power, if there is a lack then it's the suspension set up and the totally overpumped sport exhaust wich is just noisy and adds nothing to the driving experience or the performance. "Who cares, this car is only available in an auto transmission. Thus it is part of the problem, not the solution for those like myself who see a decline in driver focused vehicles." - says me.
@DecadeCivic So that’s one of my favorite angles for doing acceleration runs. It’s basically a camera mounted on a heavy duty suction cup that extends itself out to right about where your face would be so it gets a good POV perspective. I normally use a Sony RX0 II (or in this case, a GH5S with a wide lens) to capture a more “cinematic” feel versus a GoPro.
@@SpeedLabsMotorEnvy sweet thanks for replying and the explanation. I was thinking if doing your shot be possible with a chest mounted 4k Gopro, but using after effect's track motion/stabilization, locking the cluster or steering wheel as reference point. After, maybe can also apply a distortion effect fix, and apply a crop for a more normal viewing angle
@DecadeCivic I try to avoid using GoPro’s due to the distortion, but when I do, I always apply a distortion removal effect to make it seem more linear. The problem with chest mount is that you almost always are too low for the cluster and you really just get a face full of steering wheel. A head mounted one would work for better framing and I find that many POV UA-camrs do it this way.

Don't get me wrong, the 4C is amazing and I am considering a Stelvio QV for my wife but the Lotus just gave me that extra special feeling, maybe it's the color too.
May ask you something?? I own a coupe’ 2016 and soon it will be 320 hp. Why You didn’t put in race?? Also without launch control Alfa will be half second faster: 3.8 second for sure. Also Your comment about gearbox. You can add race ecu for gear and a race gear clutch. In auto no one is manage this car and just in case I agree “in auto the gear doesn’t work” but in dynamic and in race work pretty well.
I got them from real world street conditions, DA corrected to sea level, and no use of launch control. A lot of these manufacturer claims or “standard” times are hero runs done on a prepped drag strip by a professional or paid journalists. Not doubting 4.5 sec is possible, just saying that unless conditions are optimal, a 5 second time is more realistic.
A few reasons. Firstly, it’s not my car or press car. It’s someone else’s personal car, and I’m not a fan of abusing other people’s toys. Secondly, this channel is more about 40-100 and 60-130 as those are real world representations of a car’s raw power versus 0-60 (or even ¼ mile) which relies on variables such as launch, weather, driver, and electronics. Thirdly, I only do 0-60 to appease “magazine” racers, but for my own enjoyment I want to see what happens in a real street condition because when someone rolls up to you at a stop light revving, how effectively can you engage your launch control before that light turns green? If this was all a little confusing, then allow me to summarize: 0-60 is a poor judge of a car’s real performance. Rolling metrics and half mile times are better off at telling you how quick a car is. A 6000 pound G-Wagon can do 0-60 in 4 seconds, does that mean it’s dramatically faster than the 4C and Porsche 718 GTS?

Don´t make Young people´s( like yourself), break down to many of these masterpice of ART CAR`S.
People should understand that this CAR are made for ( European tiny backroads ), Not for Staight lines only( which are lot´s of american´s dream ), OK 🤣 ?
( If so, BUY A CORVETTE , or something instead ) !!!!!!!
