A killer line-up with Hades, Nek! and Band-Maid. Check out these bands. Have youu heard of them? What do you think? Yes, I realise I've mispronounce Nek! as Nek and not, as Neh-kee. I'll get it right next time!
Liked the format, showcasing an up and coming or lesser known band, kind of like an opening act. 2 bands might work better as far as total length of reaction video.
From the comments, you've introduced lots of people to Hades and Neki, so it's a great idea of yours to react to two small bands and one very big one. Neki have covered Band-Maid live a few times, and Hades also have a sort-of connection in that Peter Lim from Maid News Network is big fan (and also friends with them). If you do it again, I recommend Asterism, who I think were the only Japanese band besides Band-Maid to play Knotfest last year. An instrumental like Rising Moon or Gunfire would work well. They're mostly an instrumental band and that's their real strength.
Really like the format of spotlighting smaller bands. From what I can tell, Hades is active and battling it out in the trenches of the Tokyo live houses. I'm liking their sound. Glad you're giving bands like that recognition. And, of course, Band Maid is fantastic!
Many of us saw Band-Maid play “From Now On” live. OMNG! Kanami riffed her ass off. The DB’s matched the BPM’s! So FROM NOW ON, Band-Maid will grow in popularity even faster as their awesome, sold out 10TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR wrapped up at Japan’s 17,000 seat Yokohama Arena on Nov. 26 and at Hong Kong. AND they’re adding the finishing touches for their new album, Epic Narratives, dropping Sept. 25. Order now! The Maids are one of the hardest working supergroups in the business! Their music, their sound, each of the Maids... and the love that permeates their live events is an experience not to be missed. Hope you can catch them LIVE! Thx, Rusty!
Nek! is a lot of fun, and you can clearly hear the influence that Band-Maid has had on them, but the maturity of Band-Maid's music is off the charts. I look forward to what's to come from Nek! as they gain more experience and their own style and voice.
Band-Maid: All day every day. Such a mature, professional sound. Akane directs this song with her tempo changes, hitting on the up-beat and the down-beat....just awesome.
@@RustySabita If you check out one of their latest drops (Protect You), an Anime closing tune, there's at least five breaks in that song....only Band-Maid can make five breaks work well.
Nek! is a good young bad with a ton of potential. They do some little things that I appreciate. Fox example, the palm muted guitar accenting the slap bass was nice. I like their song "Maze" (pronounced mah - zay) a lot as well. I want to like Hades, and there's a lot of potential there, but they haven't got their hooks into me yet. They have a good look and a there's some cool moments in this song, especially the bass solo, but there's a "been there, done that" aspect to the songs I've heard from them so far. What can I say about the maids? They're the group that got me into the Japanese music scene, and they've managed to stay musically fresh and interesting the whole time. I take issue with the notion that everyone was playing backup to Kanami in this song. While Kanami is definitely the focus, MISA never gets lost in the mix and Akane is doing serious work on the drums.
@PaleHorseShabuShabu I get you. I didn't mean that they weren't important to the track, just that Kanami was the focus, almost like she was conducting the song with the others. It was stand out.
Rusty: I came for Band-Maid, but I like the format of introducing your followers to new bands. Great idea! Band-Maid’s “From Now On” is a self-contained master class on precision musicianship! Cheers!
Ok on Hades and NEK, not bad, but what a killer finale!!! Wonderful idea for the lesser known bands to get them a little spotlight. Excellent idea. But oh my what a difference when From Now On comes on... fuhgetaboutit
Nek! (It's Neki with an exclamation point replacing the "i") Have the best debut release I've heard this year. The entire EP (released last month) is great. Hades are less well known internally, but are a great band in their own right. And then there's Band-Maid. Easily the best band I've ever heard and even better in person. "From Now On" is no random jam session. Like all Band-Maid songs, it's an expertly composed piece of music. When you have a composer with lead guitarist Kanami's abilities, you don't jam. You make masterpieces.
Hades and Nek! were both really good, think I liked Hades a bit more. Got to see what else they have. Can't go wrong with a Band Maid instrumental. In the chat ,Evil Ducks mentioned the "Thrill" music video. That's one of the older Band Maid songs, it got them going and saved the band.
I think what you will find with most Band-Maid songs, is if you strip the vocals out, the instruments are heavier than you think. For me, that is part of the reason I enjoy their music so much. I like the format and the "newer" bands, fun. Thanks for the reaction!
Great format. I've actually seen all 3 bands live. And they are all great. As for Nek!, the bass does stand out. Kanade is amazing and was actually a finalist to replace Miho's place in Lovebites. And many Maidiacs are already fans of Nek!, as they have covered Band-Maid song. At the small little venue called Sunrize, there must have about 12 of us from the Band-Maid show there. And they recoginzed the Band-Maid gear when buying merch, as they are fans of the Maids. Hades, sound is fantastic live and Sala is solid on vocals and has very good command of the audience. Yuri (bass) add some nice growls. And the other two Mayo (drum) and Kuya (guitar) are solid. OK, back to Band-Maid..."From Now On" rocks and kicks 🍑! OK, I'm done. PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘 Almost forgot...try "Rinne" OMV next. I think you'll like it.
From Now On, what can you say. Wow. Check out Black Hole Live for one of the most difficult arrangements I've ever heard. Even for the vocals which are just more instruments. I love the reaction format. Two new bands may be a bit much, too much temptation to skip ahead. Maybe one during every reaction. NEK was really fun.
The reason Misa switched to 5-string (with its bottom B-string below a 4-string's E) was so that she could play songs in E-flat or D (and, I believe, compliment Kanami when she uses 'drop-D' tuning on a couple of numbers) without having to re-tune or change instruments. She uses those bottom frets (way down in the sub-40Hz range) a fair bit which is partly why bass-heads love her playing. Not sure what key _From Now on_ is in, but Misa does indeed seem go down to the 2nd or 3rd fret at 2:29 .
I don't think anyone can knock off Band-Maid off the top for me but I do love Nek!. They are Very young and brand new but every song they've put out so far has been a banger
Great idea. We always go to see the support bands etc at shows. As a result, some have become our regular live bands and we get to see them in smaller venues. Sadly some have become big themselves, alas no more small venues, but we are pleased for them.
This is my first time listening to these two bands. In my opinion, there is no vocal similarity between Hades and Band-Maid. Hades needs a vocalist with a broader vocal range, which is why Miku stepped down as lead vocalist and brought Saki into the band-a similar reaction to the musicality and instrumental technique. With more experience, maturity, and exploration of their songwriting, vocals, and instrument technique, I believe that in five years, they could obtain sucess. Again, this is just my opinion. For Nek, I see more talent; they seem similar to Trident except more on the softer side musically. Nek demonstrates talent in both their writing and musical skills. If Nek stays and matures together, they will find their path to sucess.
Call me biased, but Nek! and Hades owe a lot to Band Maid who have been road warriors for a lot longer. Hades and Nek! are both good bands and of the two I personally prefer Hades because of the overall sound. I'd like to know if they write their own songs because for my tastes Band Maid are song writing monsters with Kanami leading the way. Everything they do is top notch. I'm going to have to hear a lot more of both these bands to see what I really think of them, but I will definitely check them out more. Band Maid, best rock band on the planet to my ears.
Thanks for highlighting new and upcoming bands. Hades looks to be gaining in popularity and NEK! are getting better and better (once they graduate high school they should have more time to focus on their music. Thanks also for continuing to react to Band-Maid.
I'm so happy that I've seen both BAND-MAID and Hades (back then called AZAZEL, later morphed into Hades)! NEK! is a great new band from the land of the rising sun.
It's a new and interesting attempt to introduce a lesser known all-girl band even in Japan alongside a more well-known band. However, BAND-MAID's "from now on" is so strong in both song and performance that it completely blows away the impression of the first two bands, so I feel a bit sorry for HADES and NEK!😅

But just know “No matter how good you think you are with your instrument there is small Japanese lady in a maid outfit that can do it so much better than you! - Mr. Rock & Roll 🤘🕊️🦍🥷👸🏻👀PO!

I like the idea of giving a shout out to up and coming bands, i have heard of both these bands before, they were featured on the Maid News Network, they do something like this also, i would like to suggest a rock band that isn't actually from Japan but from Korea, they are ROLLING QUARTZ, they just came back from their first overseas tour and are fighting hard to get their name out there
I'll have to check out that news network. Might learn a fair bit myself. I got that band followed on spotify. I'll see what theyr style is and see where I can fit them in :)
Interesting review.👍 Hades is an interesting band, but a bit too influenced by iconic Japanese female bands, such as Destrose, Fate Gear or Aldious... without reaching, I think, their level.☺ Nek! are much more original, personally they remind me of an exciting mix of other two incredible bands that are no longer with us, Girlfriend and Mutant Monster... maybe with a slight twist to Gacharic Spin... Nek! is a very promising band.😆
I love "Maze" form NEK! even more. They are going to get better and better. The memorable story for Kanade, the chopper bassist, is that she put in a great showing for bassist of Lovebites. But, they went with the excellent Fami instead. Given Kanade was still in high school, that makes sense. Kanade sounds a bit like F Chopper Koga, and will be able to do her thing with NEK!
Just so you know, “NEK!” is actually a cute (if confusing) stylization of “NEKi”. Neckee… There’s another place where they use an “!” to replace an “i”: “EXCLAMAT!ON” (which is a more clever joke, I think)
Band-Maid. Hard rock with maid outfits. :) Really excellent and unique music. Well worth an hour or two of your time to check out their songs! Recommended by me: Thrill (their first hit), Blooming, Manners, Warning, Freedom (Live, line cube shibuya), Domination (Live, LCS), Moratorium (Live LCS), Shambles, Show Them (collab with The Warning)
Hi Rusty, you seriously think these three songs are comparable? Hmm. The first one, too posey, no substance, second one, really not sure what is going on here….out of respect for you and your BM sympathetic understanding I will check-out the other bands catalogues but really, you should be at least vaguely familiar with what you are promoting.
Where did I compare the songs? They all play hard rock music. I took their most popular songs to-date and put them on display. I showed bands in the same genre? Just because two bands are not as good as the third, in your opinion, doesn't make them not familiar. Please explain.
A killer line-up with Hades, Nek! and Band-Maid.

Interesting review.👍
Hades is an interesting band, but a bit too influenced by iconic Japanese female bands, such as Destrose, Fate Gear or Aldious... without reaching, I think, their level.☺
Nek! are much more original, personally they remind me of an exciting mix of other two incredible bands that are no longer with us, Girlfriend and Mutant Monster... maybe with a slight twist to Gacharic Spin... Nek! is a very promising band.😆
They are a promising band, and I didn't realise how young they were. Alot of potential with them for sure, with aga on their side.
Peter of Maids News Network has recently covered Hades, including interviews. NEK! is pronounced : Neckee.
I will let some suggestions for your journey: Gacharic Spin - East of Eden, any newer song will give you a good feeling of they are all about. Enjoy.
Hades is definitely not my cup of tea, but I kind of like Nek! They'll probably get a lot better in the next few years.
Is that your Magical Girl outfit behind you?
That is mine, correct. I wore the subscriber goal on Twitch. Now it's just there as decoration.
Just so you know, “NEK!” is actually a cute (if confusing) stylization of “NEKi”. Neckee… There’s another place where they use an “!” to replace an “i”: “EXCLAMAT!ON” (which is a more clever joke, I think)
Yeah, I realised after recording and uploading. I left a pinned comment.
@@RustySabitaOh, sorry. I missed that. I do really like how you pair a super popular group with less-famous “opening acts”. Really cool of you.
@@worldsedge4991 haha no its okay. It's easy to miss. Im glad your enjoyed it! :)
Oh heavy you say for Band Maid?
Rinne
Moratorium
Black Hole
Onset- instrumental also
Warning and Shambles are quite heavy as well. But yes, Rinne for straight up metal riffage, and Black Hole for their fastest and most chaotic.
BAND-MAID is four or five notches better than Nek and Hades. A pity, I had hoped to find another favorite Japanese female rock/metal band.
Don't worry. I got plenty more to show off. 👍🤘
Have heard of the 1st 2 bands👌👍, but What/who is the last Band🤷🏻♀️🤔??😢😒😩
No and no on those first 2 bands. The only other Japanese band I like is TRIDENT.
