    One of the best builds, ever.. I see so many backgrounds, that have shelves, but mostly just shrink the animals space.. But, you manage to add so much more room for your Beardie.. I will be trying something similar, eventually for my snakes.. Would love to see more reptile diy videos!!

      @@Lachri I just grouted and painted back of foam and want to seal before attaching to enclosure (I plan on adding for foam, spray foam, then grout, then paint to front ). So I bought a large thing of modge podge. Then read not to use modge podge for an enclosure that will be heated. I am using for a hognose. I also repainted hides and was going to seal that with modge podge too. Do you think it is okay to at least use for back so I can attach foam and get started. Thanks

    This is the nicest foam enclosure design I have seen! I've also been devouring videos of these builds before I attempt my own.
    I have a couple questions for you.
    What made you choose grout over Drylok? I was going to go with Drylok because I understand it does not have the same issue of chipping away over time.
    Second, would you be willing to share links to any web or forum posts you found useful when researching how to build this? I've only found UA-cam videos and would appreciate any actual reading that's out there.
    Thanks again!

    Isopods and springtails will completely clean up waste if you have a large enough cage to support a high number of them. I have them in my beardies 8x3x3 and I never have to clean up waste only have to straighten up what he knocks around and periodically trim or replace plants

    • @DaBigFatty111
      @DaBigFatty111 4 дні тому

      You also need a variety of different kinds of isopods especially the larger species

    The one I did, took about that long, maybe 5 weeks..cause I got the spray foam a little too thick in two spots so the curing time was long..do in layers!!!

  • @_Velqine_

    That with the cleanup crew isn't rly true. My isopods and springtails (together) in my breeding box can eat a huge rat that my snake didn't eat in about 3 days until nothing is left, so poop shouldn't be a problem. Only if there aren't enough isopods or if the poop is at places where they cant reach which is most likely the case mostly

      especially diary cows can be brutal in big numbers if it comes to flesh... I have multiple skeletons of mice and rats now

      This enclosure has a lot more space than his last enclosure. He's been far more active and uses every inch of this space. In his previous baby tank, he mostly stayed on his basking platform all the time. He's able to jump and run in this tank where there wasn't really room to do so once he started growing in the other one. This build is very stable so when he jumps it's not wobbly. He's really taken advantage of that fact and jumps a LOT now. It's not just that he has more space, but the structure allows more freedom to jump and climb without branches or anything shifting on him. He never bothered doing that in the last set up.

      @@Lachri Thanks. That was important to me but not for any reason like catching you out or thinking captivity is cruel, I don't. I have watched many acrylic vids in the last few months and have done several projects. I like your instruction because you cover questions that I have come up with in your general dialog. I am happy to listen and watch. I have implemented techniques and procedures learned watching you and they have been most helpful and made my painting life easier. Thank You and keep up the good work

    What did you use to make the back panels look rough? And what's the green thing?

    • @Lachri
      @Lachri  Рік тому

      I just cut the surface of those panels out with a big kitchen knife. I wasn't really trying to get them to look any certain way, that's just how they came out after I cut off the smooth surface they come with. Which green thing? There is an aloe, prickly pear cactus and echeveria, or do you mean something else?

    The water bowl is too close to the hot zone, the water will evaporate eventually and humidify the air too much. Be careful with that, you wouldn't want a respiratory infection to your animal.

    • @Lachri
      @Lachri  28 днів тому

      @andarilhoco I'm not sure what you're seeing but the water bowl is nowhere near the heat zone. Also, if you're monitoring humidity you will find that the idea of a water bowl raising the humidity any noticeable amount in a set up like this is a myth. Humidity will be affected by your home humidity but a bowl won't make much difference. Its possible in a small enclosure but no dragon should be in anything smaller anyway. 😊
