- Inspired by Peter Carey’s Man Booker prize winning novel of the same name, Justin Kurzel’s True History of the Kelly Gang shatters the mythology of the notorious icon to reveal the essence behind the life of Ned Kelly and force a country to stare back into the ashes of its brutal past.
Spanning the younger years of Ned’s life to the time leading up to his death, the film explores the blurred boundaries between what is bad and what is good, and the motivations for the demise of its hero. Little late, the story on which it is based on is true but the film is far from represent the true story.
It's based on a book, which despite the title, is loosely true, historical fiction
Not true at all, was so disappointed to find out that the "True History of the Kelly Gang" was entirely made up when it first came out.

@@Daniel_Plainview_1911 I wrote this when i was young and before i watched the film, but i do think it's very ironic when it's called The True History Of The Kelly Gang when most of it ain't true at all, and i didn't really like the acting very much especially how Ned and other characters had a modern aussie accent when Ned in real life had an Irish accent and mostly everybody in Australia that time would've had a british accent, i think the whole point of the movie is to show Ned from an artists perspective but i think it's a bit stupid calling something true when it's fiction and i think this can get people believing that this is the real stroy when it's not, but it's all up to you to decide if you like it or not ^^

Everyone's forgetting that its based off a novel by Peter Casey
The novel is loosely based off the Kelly Gang so don't hold it against the film for not being accurate.
Granted they could've changed it to be more accurate but I'm guessing nothing will please Sam Sabastian.
I don't think polluting ones mind with Colonial fantasy is my cup of tea. I'll stick to understanding Ned Kelly in its more accurately attempted earlier characteristions thanks, rather than add a Hollywood Tarantino alternative truth depiction to the mix. But thanks anyway.
If Guy Ritchie directed this, it would be a lot better....

Well, lookin at the trailer as an Australian, Its very disappointing. Especially when he doesnt have a full grown beard that everyone knows. If you love RDR then you should look up older films and the history of Ned Kelly and the Kelly Gang

42 minutes into the movie and it was great. Then, it gets very homosexual. Immediately turned the TV off, what a disappointment.
