Starring: George MacKay, Essie Davis, Nicholas Hoult, Orlando Schwerdt, Thomasin McKenzie, Charlie Hunnam & Russell Crowe
Set amidst the grueling badlands of 19th-century Australia, legendary outlaw Ned Kelly (George MacKay,1917, Ophelia) grows up under the bloody and uncompromising rule of the English. Food is scarce, survival is filled with daily strife, and every opportunity the colonizers take to make their victims feel powerless is inflicted with searing brutality. In a desperate attempt to prime him for rebellion, Ned Kelly’s mother (Essie Davis, The Babadook), sells him off into the hands of the notorious bushranger Harry Power (Russel Crowe, Cinderella Man, L.A. Confidential), where the young bandit discovers he comes from a line of warriors called the Sons of Sieve. Fueled by his roots and a voracious appetite for revenge, Ned Kelly leads an anarchist army to wreak havoc on their oppressors in one of the most audacious attacks the country has ever seen. Grimy, gritty, and full of action-packed thrills, True History of the Kelly Gang brings a revolutionary twist to an iconic piece of folklore. Based on the novel by Peter Carey.

man the accent is authentic as hell. ive been trying to put together a list of non-australian actors that did a good job of doing an aussie accent in cinema and the only ones i could think of are george mackay and dev patel
McKay’s father is an Aussie I believe.
Kelly didn't have an Australian accent
@@unarmedblackguy Well, that is debatable... many experts believe he did, for example Dr. Bruce Moore of the Australian National University School of literature, languages and linguistics ... his arguments are very compelling!!
Caleb Landry Jones in Nitram... what a performance!!
@@bev9708 it is not debatable lol he didn't have an Australian accent
George Mackay is an incredible and Masterpiece of an actor.
The dedication and realistic class he showed in 1917 will go down in history as one of the GOATs.
yup!!! hes the future, can't believe he was in peter pan lol
1917 realistic ??? .... do you research about what really happened , numbers , topography .... British air force reduced to 3 air planes when about 3OO would defend the beaches ... Mackay turned into some super hero with special powers walking through bullets and canons firing , some woman in basement with infant drinking cow milk , could go on and on , in France the movie was seen as really unrealistic ....def was a fantasied view of war W1 !
@@alexandreintouch1847 yea those shits weren't mackay's coverage; you may want to criticize the director instead. Jawad didn't even say 1917 realistic.
@@alexandreintouch1847 theres always a moaner 🙄
@@alexandreintouch1847 Move on mate, nobody alive today had anything to do with ww1, that includes you. You get just the one life, wasting time complaining about things that happened over a century ago isn't a good idea. You have more chance of winning the lottery jackpot 1000 times in a row than you have of being born, and yet here you are, ranting on about something that happened before your parents were born. Try to be a useful human being, you owe it to the people that took the time to raise you.
Instantly became one of my favorite movies of all time!!! What a masterpiece!! George Mackay’s performance was incredible
the movie sucked ass
What an utter load rubbish & historical trash!!!!
😳
George Mackay is one hell of a good actor
Great movie! Just finished. The Cinematics, the Actors... Top Notch Film!
the trailer makes it really confusing but the casting is great though
I literally just watched the movie ned Kelly and I loved the actors so much but this looks really good
Guess who grew up watching Guy Ritchie films.
A baby? A fetus during the Tarantino times? Not even born during Lucas?
@@EmKayx0 Yes, but all those movies are forever available for hungry young director eyes to feed off.
Reminds me of Gangs of New York a bit so I am interested.

GEEZUZ!!! I love this movie! The actors were brilliant, especially George MacKay and Essie Davis!! And the soundtrack is just as amazing! I enjoyed it so much I went out and bought the book, True Story of the Kelly Gang by Peter Carey. (Same book the actors read before filming this movie)
You're REALLY gonna make me wait until April IFC?
I just finished it, and I. AM. IN. AWE. This movie is fucking amazing. I don't know with others but I love it! The narration was well-written, and the story of Ned Kelly was portrayed in a deeper sense. This movie goes to say that bad experiences combined with injustices can really make a monster out of an innocent child--or a hero, tbh; a fucking Robin.
Rachel This is NOT the story of Ned Kelly. The author says straight away, it is FICTION. Or did you miss that bit?
@@samsabastian5560 calm down cob I rekon they know.

How could we get a chance to see all these newly released films in 2021 during the pandemic? What a sad story.
I remember hearing about this movie, but I completely forgot about it. It’s a remake of the very first feature movie ever made. That’s how I found it that’s crazy.
george mackay is so incredible
I just got dun watching it, I was like: holy- I- what-? I’m speechless
If it says IFC, I know it's going to be awesome, epic, and worth watching.
Stellar, all around.
Ned Kelly 2003 was a great movie in my opinion, let's hope this movie be a good one too

I never hated Nicholas Hoult's characters that much until this movie.
Rachel Chin Bear in mind that the character he portrayed was not like it was shown in this movie.
If anyone is here trying to decide rather to watch the film. Do it if you like films that are outside of the box. Has a hint of many films. Almost as if The Assassination Of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford mixed with some Nicolas Winding Refn vibes in there. Really enjoyed this film.

After seeing this all I can really ask, is what the absolute hell went wrong with the Assassin’s Creed movie? Kurzel knocks everything else out of the park
Truer words have never been spoken.
The fact that that's a videogame movie and they just simply do not work.
seanc41556 Both Sonic the Hedgehog and Detective Pikachu worked
I don't get the hate on the Assassin's Creed movie. Probably because people compare it to the game(s) and since it's done differently people just don't like it.
Sonic and Pikachu weren't games with an immersive storyline where you play the main and are more tied in with how it was originally introduced so that's why movies like that work.

Atleast in Finland i can now buy this from youtube.
But i actually watched this couple months ago from Australian streaming service with vpn.
In my opinion this was actually good movie.
Originally i watched it because Thomasin McKenzie but George McKay was very good in it.
Hey IFC, when can I see this?
It says it’ll be playing on April 24.
Great movie, loved it, although I would've liked a small bit more action. But still, top notch film.

Miss Heath Ledger.
PAN SHOT!
Anybody know when the dvd comes out?
Song in the trailer sounds a bit like If Only by Queens of the Stone Age (I know it`s not, but very similar)
Pretty sure queens of the Stone Age said if only was inspired by the iggy pop song “I wanna be your dog” which is the instrumental clip in this trailer, so yeah man, good ear mate
its on prime atm
This film is very good, BUT, that one scene with the baby crying made me hella uncomfortable. They really made the baby cry and get stressed just for the sake of the scene.
never knew till i like this boy now!! and he lives close to where ned kelley lived :o i dont knw i thats good , what do u think?
Just watched this. It was pretty good. Interesting cinematics and a story rife with irony. Surprisingly anti-British, which is a good thing. Great acting from McKay and Davis.
You would be surprised; I grew up in Australia and it is very anti-British and until trumpty dumpty was extremely, extremely pro-American.
No respect for MAGA because we always thought it was great; now it is not.
Do you even understand what the basis of MAGA is?
@@maticstudios Do tell.
Kimber
The basis of it is bringing industry back to America. Making things that America needs, in America. Instead what we have right now is everything is made in China and when an event happens where we need to be self sufficient (aka this pandemic) we have to turn to China to get what we need: masks, antibiotics, etc...
@@maticstudios Got it. Part of that is trade agreement but we really could use a bit more industry in the USA. I can't see us returning to the way it was, however. Many Americans have become lazy and unmotivated.
George seems intimidating
damn, this looks pretty advanced for being made in 1906...

@@rooksillmane4791 the movie/book starts with "none of what you are about too see is true" It's historical fiction and not trying to fool anyone into thinking it's anything else
After Macbeth I had big expectations for Justin Kurzel, for his next film I said to myself " OK, just a quick money grabber, no biggie", but this... this was painfully bad.
