Thank you so much for helping me think of papaya in salad. Hispanics don’t usually do but it’s a turn from traditional salad. Will give it a tryout with a hint of the island of encanto.
I love the ways you Hawaiian are very creative with so many dishes that the reason why you guys are so Healthy l had no idea that green papaya could be done that way good Health to you
I,m Thais and I like to make papaya salad for my family. And I make thais fried chicken wings with sticky rice. Friends and family love it.by the way. Great presentation.
I do mine differently but I love when people take recipes and make it there own. You have to use what you got for sure. Mine is different then my husbands mother but it's just like Hawaiian food we all got the basics and make the recipe to fit us. I use green papaya, grape tomatos cut in half, fresh green beans when I can't find the other ones, roasted peanuts on the side..I use fish sauce, thai chili when I can find them, limes, dried shrimp, garlic, and tamarind and palm sugar (or coconut sugar or brown when I can't find palm).... I mash my garlic, shrimp, thai chilis in the pestal, add green papaya and the green beans (uncooked ) and add the fish sauce, tamarind, palm sugar and limes juice... the order is a bit out of whack...but that is the jist! I think I will try yours too just to see ..Thx for the recipe!
Thank you for making this look simple and easy. I think I can make it now.Ive seen people just go over board and I'd miss steps. I know it's salad but still. Thank for the tutorial.
Somtam, my fav thai salad when i dine out at the thai restaurant. With peanuts, the taste is sooooo amazing! I love it hot with the small red chilies :)
Som tum is my favorite Thai dish. I love mine extra spicy, garlicky, and savory served on a bed of rice noodles with a variety of vegetables on the side!
I miss Hawaii. My mother's side is native Hawaiian and also multi-ethnic like most everyone else on the islands. Now that I am an adult I find I love Asian cuisine the most because of the influence on everyday food I grew up with when staying in Hawaii over the summer with that part of my family. Southeast Asian was not as dominant as Chinese, Korean, Filipino and Japanese food in my experience however. I've only recently began to make and appreciate food items like green papaya salad. I always seek white colored flesh. Even when the papaya is green sometimes the flesh is too pink or yellow so you have to be careful. You never want the papaya to be sweet. Then again there are many ways you can vary this wonderful dish.
Just discovered this site and cannot say how happy I am. Thank you for being a clean chef. Lol. I won't even watch video's where people don't have clean hands. Thank you for that!! :-)
Love your video. You explain very well and clear. You are very clean too. Appreciate you and the video. And wow ... I love the sound of your knife. It sounded so sharp.
I'm sooooo glad that I clicked on this video ! Great chef, great tips , great presentation. I usually don't see green Papaya in super market in Canada but I definitely save this recipe for future 🙏🏻👌🏻😍
Yummy 😋 I love this salad it's so delicious I made this the first time all by hand, and I sure was tired if chopping very thinly the papaya 😕 lol But I loved it ♥️
This video is homemade and makes you feel that anyone can cook the dish.... Especially liking the Hawaiian view from the window....can totally see this as a main dish in hot weather! The word Hawaii comes from Arabic Hawa is wind and ii means "y" meaning "the windy" ...
This was nice to see. This has been one of my top favorite salads since I first had it at Keo's in Kapahulu in the 80's. They sure can't make it quite as good on the mainland. Must be hard to source the green papayas.
Liked the way u explained, touching the nuiances.. well, given a vegetarian here, could there be substitutes for shrimp nd fish sauce? Any recommendations?
Ying & Yang🌹 I tried this cucumber you demonstrate. Fortunately, i have all those ingredients! It really blends my taste buds! I LOVE 💝 it👍 THANK YOU💝🌹💝🌻
nappychef35 approves and will try this. My friends have asked for green papayas and mangoes and I never considered trying these dishes before watching your video. Thanks for the inspiration
You know you can just cut the tomato into big chunk instead of strips. Also I bet this papaya salad tasted sweet because the papaya is yellow. And the pepper, he throw the seeds away like the is the most important part that is going to make the papaya salad spicy.
This is the most realistic cooking video on Papaya salad I have seen. Good job
Thank you so much for helping me think of papaya in salad. Hispanics don’t usually do but it’s a turn from traditional salad. Will give it a tryout with a hint of the island of encanto.

Thanks for sharing your recipe... I will try it for sure. ^_^
Now...this one is the real SomTum recipe. Not the Papaya salad in this VDO.
Instead of throwing the lime skin away, I like to pound a piece of it together with the garlic/peppers. It adds a very fragrant zest to the dish!
I love this recipe. It's very delicious and refreshing since I don't like the pungent smell and taste. Thank you so much for sharing

Thank you for sharing . You did awesome job 😁 👍
I heard from some Thai Chefs that we can substitute lime juice with tamarind juice.
+Denny Lim That's correct! My mother is Thai and she uses both, whatever she has on her hands. You can also use lemon juice.
oooh i love tamarind.it is sour flavor too
Hannah Pettersen can we use vinegar?
