    I just bought one from 7-11...I am so surprised when I know Taiwan had own whiskey brand. Last year I was staying Ireland and I've tried some whiskies in Ireland and England, there had many great flavor liquors. Now I know my hometown had a distillery and won so many awards. The taste so amazing~~ I decide to visit the distillery in Yilan county this weekend.

    Great video buddy. I LOVE Kavalan whiskies. The Vinho is by far my fav. Bought their PX cask last time I went there. Can't wait to try that!

    I don't think you can under state the Fino. Last night at the bar; and just finishing the George T Stagg for the first time. I asked for Kavalan Sherry, now remind you we had a Vinho Barrique with the Stagg. They didn't have the regular sherry, but offered the Fino. I go sure give me the Fino, and another Barrique.
    I didn't even know I was drinking Cask Strength with these whiskys. Wife felt it later, but man oh man. Worth the cost 100% and will be buying a couple bottles of these whiskys for sure. I thought about this review, and went for it. Thanks Liquor Hound. You expanded my selection.

      +Seattle206723 - Sounds like a great evening! You chose wisely and I think the more whiskies you try, the more you'll know you made a smart decision with the Fino. Cheers!

    Such great whisky’s. I really love the kavalan solist range. I bought the solist port, solist ex bourbon and the solist vinho barrique. The sherry is gonna be next months buy.

    I have the Vinho and the sherry, still have to try the ex bourbon. I bought a sample of the fino from the distillery inn2016 and found it to be spectacular. The vinho is overall my favorite, though. I also tried the peaty cask, of which I am expecting a bottle in a couple of months, and found it very impressive too. Have you tried it, Liquorhound?

    LH, they all sound amazing. The ex-bourbon and sherry sound good to me. I don't know how they do it being about 5 years old, as when you compare it to scotch and their aging process. I will check TWE and MOM for prices. Great video.

    Awesome reviews ! I've only tried the ex Bourbon, ex Sherry and the VB. I liked the Sherry most.
    With the huge production capacity they have, these should be closer to USD100/750cc bottle ! I want to try the new Solists if I can find them. Kavalan would be doing themselves a huge favor if they send you a bottle of each to try and talk about !

    : Thanks for this awesome review! Thanks to you i've bought the Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique & The Solist Sherry Cask ....for a steal at a sale online.
    In my opinion, the Vinho Barrique is one of the best Whisky's i have tasted in a long time, so complex and nice...! Thanks for that !
    My next one will be the KAVALAN SOLIST PORT CASK!

    • @LiquorHound
      @LiquorHound  8 років тому

      +Evan Lindberg - Well sample them while you're in the stores. If you know what you're looking for (Añejo, Extra Añejo etc...), just ask and they'll usually be happy to let you taste them. For sweeter (dessert style) tequilas, I really liked the Don Cayo and Cava de Oro (Añejo's & Extra Añejo's) the last time I was in Mexico. Remember to shop around to get the lowest price (they'll price match to get your business). Cheers!

    I just gotta say WOW you have a fantastic collection, I have about 50 bottles myself and I always have a hard time choosing what to drink.
    How do you choose ever choose what to drink Liqourhound? Also what's your daily dram?

    • @LiquorHound
      @LiquorHound  8 років тому +1

      +Tony - Lol, it can be a bit difficult to choose what to drink, but most of the time I just narrow down the type of spirit I'm in the mood for and stare at them until one jumps out at me. My "daily dram" changes, but lately I've found myself enjoying Smooth Ambler's "Old Scout" Single Barrel Bourbons (a bargain at $55) and a 19 year Glenburgie bottled by Signatory ($90). Of course now that winter's pushing in here in Texas, the heavily peated Bruichladdich Octomore 6.3 has been getting much more attention. I know it's a bit high priced to be considered a daily dram (at $165), but it's hard to pass up. Cheers!

    Hey Hound which are the better whisky's from Kavalan to have the older ones or the newer ones ?

    • @LiquorHound
      @LiquorHound  7 років тому

      +Dave Weiner - The new ones are still good, and not that much different than the old ones. I had their $300 Brandy Cask last year and it was great. Sadly, I see the prices on the new ones are supposed to hit $500-$700 (for a PX, Manzanilla, & Moscatel). If that's the case, I'm out. Cheers!

      It’s been 2 or so years since I’ve tasted new Kavalan Single Cask releases. I’ll say that I wasn’t as impressed with those as I was with their earlier releases. The finishes were still heavy, but there was some off notes like peroxide and sulfur on certain ones. If I can get some new samples from my whisky friends, I’ll see about doing another video. Cheers!

    how would you describe the taste of something you'd call a "sherry bomb"? is that a bad thing?

    • @LiquorHound
      @LiquorHound  8 років тому +2

      +Kizzle Cozzle - It's not a bad thing. There's just some whiskies that are so heavily sherry matured that they're often called "sherry bombs". Some great examples would be Aberlour A'bunadh, Glenfarclas Cask Strength, the old Macallan Cask Strength's and many of the Glendronach's (105, 15 & 18). Those are all great whiskies where the sherry's dried dark fruits (plums, figs, prunes & raisins) and possibly some brighter red fruits (berries) really shine. Cheers!

    you never cleaned your palate in between the tastings. Normally it would impact your accuracy of judgment when it comes to the tasting. Could you please comment on the that??

    • @LiquorHound
      @LiquorHound  8 років тому +2

      +Alex Martinson - When I'm shooting a video, there's a lot of factors that determine if clean my palate in between spirits. There's unfamiliarity (is it new to me?), categories (tequilas require less for example), strengths (if there's big swings in abv's), flavor profiles (bold, heavy or spicy flavors need more cleansing), video length (I try to keep them down, so if I can avoid that step without sacrificing the review, I will), etc... But in the case of the Kavalan, I'm very familiar with them and already knew they shared a similar base profile, so other than the finishing casks (which profiles I'm also very familiar with), all I needed to do was make sure they were reviewed in order of boldness and complexity. That's why I reviewed the ex-bourbon cask first (simplest), then the Vinho Barrique, then the Sherry Cask and finished with the rich exotic spices of the Fino. I hope this helps explain. Cheers!

    • @eshgholah
      @eshgholah 8 років тому +1

      ***** Slangevar. Thanks for the response. Now I realize that you have had valid reasons for not cleaning the palate between each tasting. But here in Britain when we have Whisky tasting sessions with friends, cleaning the palate is a must as it gives you the opportunity to appreciate the taste-difference between each type that we tend to try for the evening. Thanks for the video and I am going to try the FINO one ( the very last one in the range) as it seemed to be the recommended one by you.

      Hmm, Scotch from the lowlands tend to be grassy (particularly Littlemill), but I’ve only found “hay” occasionally in certain bottles (and usually in the background). I don’t find that descriptor to be a specific distillery characteristic, so it’s hard for me to pin down one for you. Cheers!
