"If I can do this, anyone can do this." Not so, my friend. I would have given up on that dash and gotten a new one. But, you're doing what many of us can't do. Thank you for teaching us!

Amen, I agree. Weird Beard does things that many of us would never even attempt to do, and then says "that was easy, anyone can do this". I beg to differ!

Mike I mean this on the nicest way possible, you are the Mister Rogers of the automotive diy world. The way you take your time and explain what you are doing and why you are doing it the way you are make us feel like we can do it as well. This is why I will always be a super fan of your channel and why I tell everyone that wants to learn what a real mechanic should be like to subscribe to you and your kids channels. You are such a positive influence on your fans, you truly make me feel like I can try to do anything even if I've never done it before. Thank you for keeping it real. As always stay safe.

Get the 3x expanding spray insulating foam . Put a layer of tape over all cracks . Punch holes in tape where you want foam filled. Spray foam thru holes in tape let dry , remove tape , sand , fiberglass

I got the Dash pad out of my 72 Plymouth fury! After watching this video, it helped me incredibly! I'm now off to the Salvage yard to grab one out of a car, a crack free dash. I wouldn't have had the confidence to do this today if I hadn't watched this video and then do it myself first on my car......I didn't break anything!!! no broken tools, no busted knuckles and nothing on the Fury broken!

Best thing for texture I used for my dash on my f150 was truck bed spray liner. texture is really nice and really tuff and durable. Rust-Oleum red label at home depot. Worked great. And bonds glass for cracks and regular bond after. But good job and it's a job.

@@fredmaxwell9619 I just commented this week that I cannot believe that we are down to seats and carpet on the Fury. It’s hard to believe that was two cars meshed together. Yes indeed “WOW”. I too remember when Stella passed. That was a sad week, but Frankers is no slouch. 😊 I cannot wait to see how the JB Weld fix works on that ‘37 Chev. 🤔 Mike and Scott are both incredible at what they do. They both fix things instead of buying new parts. That is true talent.

I've used canvas bags of sand to hold off shaped object while working on them. Put the dash on 3-4 bags of sand and work it into the bags. It shouldn't move much.
Small bags of sand (or beanbags) are good as a makeshift tripod for a camera also.

I just see your hands and go: Many offerings have been made to the car gods for a succesful repair.
I have seen other people do similar stuff on their dashes with good results so I really think it's going to end up looking a lot better than it did. And it needs to be functional, you are turning it into a driver and function is all that matters! You won't feel bad leaving it roasting in the sun for instance!

This car is really bring back memories for me. My first car in high school was a 1972 Chevelle green with a black vinyl roof. All I ever did was work on that car. A few years later I bought a 1976 Corvette Stingray (last year of the Stingray name) the car was burgundy and the interior red. It came from the factory that way but it just didn't look right so I took the interior apart and turned it all black. It was way more work than I could have imagined.

I never thought of using a spray foam for a filler but I guess it makes sense. If I had my druthers I would first make a full size cast and the use that to make a form for that two-part foaming mixture then sand to shape then stretch some hot vinyl to shape.

    • @66skate

Just a quick heads up take the tape off the back of the defroster vents, grab a cereal box and cut it width wise in half. Take each half of the box and fold it so it fits in the radius of the defroster vent. Now you can fill around it with foam and that will give you the basic shape you need for the vent with a lot less work to grind out later. Great job with the dash as always ENJOY!

For where I live, the body's actually wicked solid. I've had several Mopars over the years. My favorite was my 68 Charger RT 440 4 speed triple black. Damn that car was awesome for a 19 yt old kid. That car gave me my first speeding ticket. Lol If I only knew then what I know now. Lol I enjoy your channel. Keep up the great work.

It's been awhile but I have walked and driven Barclay's Salvage near Alvord, TX a couple of times and pulled some parts with friends. This place is OLD school, way back off US 281 in the trees. Cars just scattered everywhere and it covers 60 acres but there's a little bit of everything in there. If you're ever across the Red River, it's the kind of place that would probably be helpful for this and other projects. Drive something with ground clearance, you'll need it.

00:45 in, man that roof looks so good considering the condition it was in and also the simplistic approach to the repair. I did something similar on my '82 F100, only had to get rid of the puckers, v-groove it, fill it, then got a replacement dash skin from LMC truck. If I hadn't done what you are doing, even the dash skin would look weird if I hadn't leveled the original surface. I doubt that I could have made it look good w/o the dash skin, so I'm on the edge of my seat to see how yours comes out with the methods you're going to use for the surface. Hoping that texturized finish works for you. Excellent video!

Love your videos bro. Your daughters vids are good too. Hopefully my daughter is able to work on her car when she’s older. This green beast is gonna be one crazy project. Lots of respect from Los Angeles keep up the great work.

I Like what you are doing with the Plymouth. I hope you continue reviving it on the cheep. I see no reason to ever redo the top. Its probably in better shape now than anything you could find to replace it. Leave the patina on the paint, put your logo on it and drive it proudly. Thumbs up on the wheel skirts. I hope you have a chance to finish up the Coronet soon. You took the high road with that situation and it is time to send it down that road. You know who can eat dirt. Thanks for the great content.
