I’m a kiwi who’s living in west Clare and I’m not far from where Tiwai’s great great grandfather came from. It was fantastic to see him come over to find his Irish roots and what it meant to him spiritually to do so.
Was so touched by Tiwai's dignity and Honourable conduct. What an amazing guy! And what an awsome family gathering that will be! A coincidence I share with the young woman who was looking for her father....the otherside of the world....when trying t find my biological father... all I get is 'hits' about a well known singer....n can't get any further! Every story with David Lomas touches my soul. Found my mom this summer & my three half siblings. When my mom & I hugged it filled me up to the brim. It was exactly what these long lost ones feel when they hug. Beautiful, just beautiful life.
Some women steal the kids from the dad. My dad's ex was all fine and good until my brother was born looking identical to my dad's youngest with the ex. The problem was her other son who clearly wasn't my dad's kid looked nothing like them. Instead of admitting she cheated and passed of another man's kid, she just took them and dissapeared. I found them 30 years later. They still don't know one isn't really a brother.

My Irish ancestors come from the same country, while watching him at the gravesite my hairs stood up on my arms. That was a lovely story, now he knows where he gets his Irish side of his life. My ancestors were the lappin family.
I am glad David found his sister's and I hope this will bring them close again. I found that story the most fascinating because of my own family fracturing as I look back at family photos of us before we fractured we always lined up in family photos in the same way we fractured. Twice when the sisters lined up the one stood a little apart from the other 3. The strange thing is as I look at my family photos we didn't stand in one group pitted against the other. 2 of us stood a little separated from the others because we felt excluded. When the fracturing happened we were the 2 left out.
It’s heartbreaking how many children’s lives have had traumas, abandonment issues due to self centered “parents” that leave their children in the dust! That to me is a very low, heartless person The pain runs so deep in these adults, young or old after decades of knowing their so called “parent” abandoned them 😢
My mom hid the fact she had knowledge of my father. I am now 28 and apparently its too late. All those nights as a child I cried myself to sleep wondering where was my father. My tribe? My people? Today I find out his name, story, and I just believe I will reach out to connect with my relatives on his side. I am just not sure if I want to redig those emotions. I am afraid of rejection. What if he or they dont want to connect? I am over 6000km away. Will they like me? I dont know how to feel about this. Is my mom right to hide this? She said my biological father wasn't interested to know. Could she have lied? Did he change his mind? Did he ever wonder about me? I feel so lost.
I wish someone could have helped my dad find out what happened to his mother who was from Lancashire, who went off the radar in 1932 when he was 9 years old. She came to visit him in a boys home in Melbourne and told him she'd see him in 6 months time. He never saw her again in his life. He died when he was 81.
Such strange people.... they have no idea what they're doing to their children. Maybe she passed away within those 6 months....anything is possible - but to not leave ANY contact Info is very unfortunate.
I didn't get that feeling at all. He never even saw his 2nd daughter until she was 6 or 8 or something. If he was still into his ex, he would have SURELY kept in touch better.
I'm guessing Robert had regrets on leaving his son the 1st Dave behind, that's why he named he second son David as well. Losing the younger David probably felt like losing his son all over again.
Well, let's not be over dramatic, he never actually lost his 1st son. He CHOSE never to have contact with him again after sending that card with $5 in it. ...which by the way, isn't enough money to raise a child.
I don't find the format of this show empathatic to the people featured. The host is cold. The over dramatic music does not seem well suited to the delicate subject matter. Reveal of sensitive information in front of camera is the worst part. Very exploitive
I also like 'Long List Family' better for their sensitivity in giving people bad news off camera...also leaving some of their more private moments private. Why they both keep people in suspense to give what good news there is I don't know, except that it draws the viewers...at times like that a moment can seem an eternity!
Glad to see that Tiwai found his Irish side. Not so easy to connect or reconnect with family you never knew. Genealogy and family ancestry research can be so exciting. One of my coworkers from the United States took a trip to Ireland (his ancestral homeland from a few generations back). While in Ireland, he got drunk in a bar and said offensive things and jokingly tried to imitate the stereotypical Irishman (something he learned in American culture). The Irish people didn't tolerate it. They ran him out of the bar and accused him of being a stereotypical arrogant American. He took his ignorance and returned to the US regretting his trip.
