You have to love the UA-cam community for sharing there thoughs, ideas and experiences. I had the same idea as your hack here, then came across your video. I'll heed your warnings at my own risk and thanks for sharing! ✌️🇺🇲

Yah, man. I agree with your disclaimer. There are too many potential hazards related to pressurized gas and incomplete combustion.

Where did you find the fittings?

If you use a Mr. Buddy filter, it has a backflow valve in it. . Regarding base, the new propane cans with the plastic bottom don't fit tightly.Youcan remove the plastic, if your not concerned with the can not standing on its own. Rather than use the award OFF Switch, I simply tip the heater slightly and it turns off. You will hear the pendulum drop when you tip the heater.

Left the first valve as is worked so no backflow concerns. Could not take off the 12mm nut out of the mr heater for my life I even put it in a vice and leaned on the socket I just rounded off the corners. Cut needle off the heater flush with the bottom threads and drilled out the center. Used pressurized air to clean out the fitting thoroughly. works great now. thanks for basics casue from the day I bought this I planned on adding a valve why on earth did they not? mr heater must have stock in propane lol

Wouldn't the needle valve work to keep the heater charged the same as the backflow preventer when fully closed? Nice hack.

With the adjustable valve and more stable legs I wonder if it would hold up a mini billie pot for cooking?

Don't try it. There are combo heater/stoves out there that are made to be both. And they are safer than any DIY modified heater.

Teflon tape is not supposed to make the seal....it's the metal on metal connection that's supposed make the seal. Teflon has 2 purposes; 1. So you can take it apart later in life. 2. To make bad threads seal. Liquid pipe dope with teflon is the best solution. Back in the early 90's I had an inspector turn down a gas connection cuz I used white tape. I said ok...I won't use any tape at all, just pipe dope. Some inspectors have no common sense...it's the metal to metal contact that should make the seal. Pipe dope keeps the 2 metals from "balling-up" inside the joint so you can take it apart again someday.

I wonder why Mr. Heater Inc. didn't engineer one of these valves in the first place.

Right!? They could def make a better solution than this.

It's because they want people to spend the money on the more expensive option

Not sure why you would need to do this. It only puts out 4k btu anyway and reviews I've read say it doesn't put out enough heat to begin with.

      0) disclaimer
      1) Amazon/ Google takes 15 seconds or less to find same or comparable.
      2) With the right parts (might take 5 minutes to search), backflow still works, but I'm happier at atmospheric pressure.
