ENGWE EP-2 500w e-bike / How To Alter The Maximum Speed.
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 жов 2020
- I've been asked if it's possible to adjust the speed of the Engwe EP-2 500w, as different countries have different laws regarding the maximum speed allowed for e-bikes. This is only for the bikes with the M5 display. the YL80C display requires a different procedure.
This comes from the factory, at least mine did, already set at the maximum speed, around 23mph/37kmh. Dependant on rider weight and conditions.
In the settings of the M5 display, obtained by pressing both the up and down keys, then scrolling with the 'M' button until 08P is reached, the number should be set at 63, max speed, done by using the arrow buttons.
Any alteration to this figure requires the display to be turned off and back on again to register the input, otherwise it will revert back to the previous setting.
I found that setting it to 30 will give a max speed of around 15mph/25kmh, which is the legal speed for most European countries.
I also found that after turning off the battery, the inputted values remained.
There's also an alteration in the 05P setting, if you change it from 001 to 002 it will give you 9 pas levels and a bit more speed. Not sure what the effect on the motor this has though, and I find 9 assists too many really.

I love the 9 pas setting so when I'm going slow I can cruse at walking speed to keep with mates who aren't riding as for 9 level pretty nippy but I only use that speed here and there to extend motor life. I guess I can add a 750 watt bafang hub wheel in a few years or get engwe to send me one wheel part and it should go on my 500 watt as battery requirements are the same so why not. This is a few years time though lol 😂
Very help full thank you
23mph is a nice speed. You stay in control and get to your destination in a decent time.
It is yes, I agree, but if it went 27, people would want 30.
@@MidlandBulletRiders
Always the way. I have the Fiido M1 PRO. It's only a 500w 48v fat tyre ebike. But some people claim to be getting 28mph on the flat with it my top speed is 41kph or about 25mph. On a flat road pure throttle no pedalling. I weigh 88KG about 194lbs. So this is a factor too. My friend only weighs 150lbs and he gets 45kph on it over the same stretch of road.
So you cannot overlook these things. The Engwe EP2 pros are fine bikes. Especially the GREY model. modded out with BMX handle bars it's the coolest looking fat tyre ebike I've ever seen. But they are 10 to 15lbs heavier than the M1 pro right out of the box.
Weight makes a difference. And then if you are heavy yourself. That's going to take the speed down by 2 or 3 mph. It makes sense. The more work the motor has to do. The slower its going to be. And the range will shorten too.
BTW did you get that glossy brochure with your? Where they should have put the manual ?
The other day I hopped on mine, fired her up, nothing, wouldn't move, screen said error 37 . I wasn't happy. Turned out to be my adjusting the new brakes using the screws at the lever end which cut the motor just as braking does. :)
Glad to hear you managed to solve the issue. Simple repairs are the best.
Hi do you maybe know if I can swap my 500 watt motor to a 750 watt in a engwe ep 2?
It looked to take off faster on 9? More torque maybe? Also, try the assist difference pedalling, I only pedalled mine that once to try it, but it hit 28 . Mine hasn't got the small rear cog so it wasn't much fun.
Yes I thought that too,
I have no clue what I've done wrong today on my EP-2 PRO 750 upgraded, but somehow after some rain I can't reset my speed. I once set it to 23mph/37kmph and I had nice PAS, but now I have in each PAS max speed 37km/h. I have no clue how to reset that.
Hi. I have question on advanced settings. How I can increase max speed ? Is it even possible ? I have now 9 speed modes but max speed is now still 45km/h but I have engine engwee pro. There is different display
Thank you.
I done this and I feel that it doesn't make it faster at all, what your doing is altering the way the display reads the motor speed, telling you its going faster but it not. Pedal assist 9 sucks everything out your battery so even if you could go faster ( and i doubt it does) it's not even a mile before the power drops and then you sitting at 19/20mph anyway and you've lost a good 2 miles or more range. The settings it comes is perfect and this is a great bike!
I tend to agree with you. I don't like the 9 assists myself anyway, 5 is a much more usable amount.
Hello there,
Please may I have the best setting for the engwe Ebike 20" because I think I messed up the setting on the LCD display and now the bike lose power and does not have the pedal assistance anymore .
I look forward to your help.
Many thanks

hi - what's the bike like at hills? what kind of gradient can it go up on it's own power (no peddling) thanks!
I've not tested it to it's limit. It's not ideal to push an electric motor to the point of stopping, that's how things burn out. Also I add a bit of pedal power to help up hills and it gets up quite easily.
What type of gear do you recommend when riding this ebike? I just purchased one for my commute from work to home because I work late at night. It will be my first time riding this.
Depends on the weather really, keep yourself warm and dry. I think more important for you is to be seen and be safe. If I was doing a lot of night riding, I would definitely invest in some better lights.
@@MidlandBulletRiders
Thank you so much for the response back!
I'm defiently going to invest on some better lighting for the bike!
Hi dear. Did you change your tires too? From the video they seem to me that they make less noise than the originals that I have. Do you know what I can do for the front shocks to improve them? Just put some fat in it? Or have you changed them and they work better? Now I give a piece of advice to you.The battery at every drop makes a lot of noise because it beats on the frame. Make a little thick near the lower part of the battery that beats on the frame (you can also do it with a little paper). It will make a lot less noise and driving will give you a safer feeling.
They are the standard tyres that it came with. The forks do not use oil only springs, you can make them harder or softer by adjusting the preload. Yes I know I get a slight rattle from the battery. I did add some tape to the edges but had to remove it because it was too tight to fit in the frame. It's on my to-do list.
Ernesto thanked i think these settings r far the best I've tried
I find pas 3 works 👍
Is it possible to unlock ep-2 power max speed also?
Or is it just for this model?
hello, how does it work and how to reset the TRIP A and B? Does it reset every time the bike is turned off? Thanks
Trip meter does reset when turned off. Seems to happen on different bikes too. A bit annoying really.
Suggest swapping out the brake cables, the factory set aren't good, I think they might even be gear cables. Mine rear cable snapped going down a hill, I suspect the bike is too heavy for the stock brakes at those speeds (you were smart to change yours). I've done about 500 miles and the pads already need swapping out. Please get a chest harness for the camera when doing speed tests. You need both hands on the brakes.
Will keep an eye on them.
I replaced one of mine, easy job, just thread it down the casing, a little oil is nice on the cable, no need to mess with the whole cable. Cheaper that way too.
How to disable the trottle ?
Hello, i have an error. How can i contact engwe? They dont respond to my emails.
Are you using a suspension seat post if so do you know what size to order thanks
Yes. 31.6mm. If you look at this other video you will see what was needed in the way of adaptors to make it fit. ua-cam.com/video/0G8qMN57A7s/v-deo.html
I also have the ep 2 500w. But my bikes display and input/settings looks completely different🙄 I would like to restrict it cause in the Netherlands maxspeed is 25kmh. Will play around see if I can find the solution on my own.
If you have the YL80C display, there a manual here www.dropbox.com/s/xnd6kh3ffsghf1v/YL80C%20Display%20instructions.pdf?dl=0 I'm not sure how you adjust it on yours though.
@@MidlandBulletRiders Thanks, yeah saving the settings seem that impossible, would have to figure this one out.
Thanks for the video...all filmed one handed...not bad! Aren't you worried about the police? In Germany these bikes are illigal...here everything what is fun, is forbidden... :-(
Never had a problem. Actually had one drive past me, after I had just passed some other cyclists.
Interesting stuff. I wonder what 63 (or whatever number one sets) actually means? 63 what?
The changing of the PAS divisions is handy to know, although I suspect 5 is optimum. One assumes 9 just divides the increases into finer increments?? I have noticed on bumpy tracks that the jump from 3 to 4 is very noticeable. Less of a problem on flat tarmac as one tends to want to dial in max cruising speed.
Interesting stuff though mate👍.
No idea where they pluck those numbers from. I could understand it if it equalled kilometres.
I've looked at whether it might be wheel rpm but that's way too slow. Using radians doesn't work either. I think maybe you are dialing in Nm?? Which dictate a certain motor rpm to give the required power to achieve the speed attainable on said amount of power. It would explain discrepancies due to incline or drag.
I've tried calculating the power assuming 63 means Nm, based on the rolling circumference of the tyre and the speed you have obtained, but the sums didn't add up. However I'm still inclined to think that parameter 8 is actually the motor max torque in Nm. I've read that these geared hub motors give peak torque at a speed lower than peak power rpm. If so we can think of the parameter 8 as a kind of "mapping". Lowering the value in the parameter then would be lowering the peak torque and I assume peak power. If I'm on the right lines then it begs the question as to how the various pedal assist level settings react to changing parameter 8. In other words does pedal assist 4 (for example) feel weaker when parameter 8 is set to 40 than it feels when parameter 8 is set to 63?
Interesting. I'll have to try that.
I noticed last night on the Engwe splurge on Amazon that they state the motor produces 60Nm....... The thick plottens 🤔😂😂
Hi!! It is possible to change display from Miles to km? And how if is possible?
Go into settings by pressing both up and down arrows, scroll using the 'M' button to 02P. Then set it to '0' for km, using the up button.
Hi when i tried to set speed it would not change. stays on 25klm setting. Any ideas?
Make sure you turn off the display and back on again after making any changes.
@@MidlandBulletRiders Did not make any difference and the store here In Australia set the display unit locked. I tried everything . it will not let me go up speed digits or even low digits. like its stuck on the one number.
Hi!
Do you know how to disable the throttle?
How do you enable the fucking thing
Hi
Is this pas and throttle?
Cheers
Yes it is.
How about the key? Your model can start-up without the key?
It needs the key in to run.
@@MidlandBulletRiders thats so weird. My engwe the key is useless. Without key i can still open my bike.
Did you check the speed with GPS on phone?
My e-bike (not engwe but very similar) showed a speed of 43 km ph, but my GPS said 35.
I adjusted the wheel/rim size in the settings and now the bike shows accurate speed
Yes, I found setting my wheel size to 22" gave the most accurate reading compared to my phone. ua-cam.com/video/dMBlVZNQhDM/v-deo.html
Please help I want to set this bike to cruise control
Not available on this model.
Could have just looked at the menu again to see if it saved.
Can it set lowering speed via display only limted to 25km/h
Yes, it's explained in the video.
@@MidlandBulletRiders ok thanks
I'm curious to see what speed I can get out of my EP2 Pro 750w, I got 35mph top speed full throttle and peddling past my local speed sign.
Gonna try and see the outcome, Its my old mans bike he likes to keep it under 20mph for his commute to work the bike is a god send to him like, I'm thinking of getting myself a fastie. 👌🏻
Decent vid bud
How dis you get it to 35mph what were your settings
@@markchristopher6889 The one we have is a Engwe EP2 PRO 750W, slightly faster then the one shown in the video.
@@justworstevie473 I have the same bike you do but i can only get 23 mph. How did you get to 35?
@@carlosceron5258 I will have a look at the settings we're using, I know we have it on the 5 speed setting rather then the 9 I know that much, I get it to 30mph without peddling then with a peddle it gets to 35 and the bike keeps it at 35 full throttle.
@@justworstevie473 proof or it didn’t happen
Hello, I just bought the EP2 PRO, with a 750 engine, and I have a problem on the display: the battery indicator always shows full, so I don't know when the battery level drops. Is there a way to adjust this from the m5 display menu? Thanks a lot and congrats for your channel!
I find the battery indicator a bit hit and miss really. I prefer to have the display show the battery voltage, give you a more accurate idea how much you have left.
I've got same problem
i have also the same model but i have problems that mine isn't taking the settings to go slower while it shows in the settings that they have been put in :/ do you have the same problem ?
Hi, I have a problem with my battery, it seems to go flat so quick! After 10 miles even!
interesting video, i have the same bike, only done 26 miles so far. played around with the settings, what a nightmare. this will will surprise you all. 9 pas makes no difference nor 5 pas. you still get the same factory setting. you can more speed by using just pas 1/2/and 3. i get 28.5 mph on pas1 and peddling in 7th gear in pas3 32.5 mph 30.2 pas 2 pas1 in 7 th gear 28.5 this is on the stand waiting to see if it will do the same on the road. the settings you need are. po5 sett to zero. po8 set to 50, i read somewhere that 50 meand no speed restriction. po9 and po10 set to zero. and makes sure sleep mode po4 is also zero.. i have all the others also but these are the main ones. you just get bigger slices of the cherry on each pas position up to 3. as others have said using 5 or 9 just cuts the power on setting. makes you think you have more power and speed, but you have not. only what the motor is set for.. try it and see. only need 1 to and 3 to get the same results. will let you know more when i have done a road test. climbs hills very well
went up a steep hill yesterday with a total of 194 lbs, my weight plus shopping tools ect, got up to 14.5 mph on pas 3 with peddle at the top .so will try different gears without power, had trouble getting power assist to work with the gears and motor. but all works now, no need for such a complicated computer.
By using PAS 1/2 &3 will it make the motor last longer and not wear it down as quickly?
I'd like to see that done on video,
Hi could u send me the settings pls I've messed mine up totally
What is the procedure to unlock for the Engwe EP-2 750w YL80C?
I might try telling mine a lie. Like , You have 18 inch wheels. It'd throw out speedo etc but I don't really care about all that vs speed.
P8 45
will get you tope speed.
45 km/ph is 28mph , I've seen the same on that yank model that's identical.
Why can’t I figure this out lol
You all do realize that this is only a bicycle?! Its not meant for high speeds and thats why they break up and fall apart!
yé !
How the fuck do I turn the throttle on
This bike need to hacked go up 50 mph and 500 miles distance in one charge .. hahahaha
its not 500 w haha. its a 750 w engine now! $ 949.00 free shiping no tax!
Doesn’t make it faster just alters wheel size in controller so speedo lies
Maybe you could try a helmet.
Just sayin'
