I had testicular cancer at 40, had one testicle removed, and started having increasing low-T symptoms in the circumventing years. My provider refused to even do the test without a baseline so I went out of system. At 48 I had it tested and my testosterone 190 with estradiol at 53. Now I'm on TRT and, at 50, I clock in around 850, feel worlds better, and am in better shape than I was at 30. Its not for everyone, but it quite literally turned my life around.

HRT saved my life. I was diagnosed with severely low T in 2017 (age 58) and began HRT. Then FFWD to 2020, when I got COVID and a subsequent double PE. I clinically died, but came back. My doctors attributed my survival in large part to my HRT. They said my T levels were that of a man in his 20's/early 30's, and said that made a huge difference when I got extremely ill. It made my blood vessels strong... and I am here today. And yes, still shooting T.

Most doctors love to focus on "normal" and consider it "good enough". It took me years to find a doctor that understood this and also believed that we need to all be in an "optimal" range, not just normal or good enough like my other doctors. She took the time to study this in depth and understands that me having a total test of 500ng/dl may not make me feel optimal, but joe schmoe feels amazing at 500 ng/dl. We learned that my blood work and my overall well being is best when I am at around 7-800 ng/dl. Another thing I've noticed over the years is that doctors over prescribe drugs like anastrozole or letrozole to the point they are crashing their patients E2 causing serious performance issues. A lot of guys on TRT have no idea how important healthy estrogen levels are as well.

I saw on another channel and the doctor was talking about bit just the testosterone but there are other levels that he looks at and tries to optimize them and doesn’t just prescribe a high dose of T. I’m thinking that’s what I want to do because although I still feel good now and I’m still strong and excersize and lift regularly I don’t want to wait till any obvious decline! 😁🤷🏽‍♂️

So I was 38 years old and tested 290. Went to primary care and he said it was questionable but within healthy range. Went to another Dr and they told me it was average for a 65 year old man and I was basically in male menopause. I felt horrible. Depressed, tired, fatigued, couldn't build muscle or burn fat no matter how hard I tried. I'll be 40 in 2 weeks and have been on trt for a year. It has completely changed my life. I had my progress photo used as a cover photo for a trt forum and feel amazing. It's unfortunate that so many Dr's are reluctant to help with this or are so uneducated about it. It's not expensive and is worth every penny. I went to jamaica and was playing volleyball in 90° weather for hours and drinking alcohol like I was 20 again. No naps needed and just felt amazing. Couldn't have done that 14 months ago without a nap or feeling horrible. I highly recommend this for anyone with any of the systems she discussed.

I took testosterone (proviron and nolvadex which is antiestrogen) for a few months, but the only result was that I got more hair on my body. Finally, the treatment was with IVF-ICSI, which was successful.
Now I am 58 years old, and I decided to repeat some of the tests (as dr Malik said, one test is not enough).
And it was very weird. My testosterone was very high, 21.96 nmol/L, which converts to 633,37 ng/dL.
My LH was also very good - 6,3 U/L (reference range 1,7 to 8,6 U/L for men).
However, my FSH was 17,00 U/L (reference range 1,5 to 12,4 U/L for men), which is clearly above the range.
The last result is not surprising - I am 58 yo now, my sperm is getting very low, and it is the similar result like in postmenopausal women with ovarian insufficiency. But how can I explain the high testosterone?
If any specialist can give me some hints here I would be grateful.
Maybe I should repeat the test, although it costs money by the way?
Is testosterone level related to having or not having sex/masturbation for some period?
In the end, my symptoms are as follows:
When I was diagnosed with infertility, I went to a urologist, and she said that my testicles looked too small. It was not a measurement, but subjective judgement, I do not have any reference to say if it is so.
I had never had any real mustache right until I got married. And not much body hair.
I also never had enough muscle strength, even though I did train a lot (and I was in the army for 2 years from 18 to 20 years old).
When I took the testosterone pills, the only result was, that my body hair (including mustache) increased, nothing else.
My sperm count was still low and not good, so that is why we had to do two in vitro cycles.
Thanks in advance if anyone has any hint about the laboratory tests.

When I was 24, I was diagnosed with a benign pituitary tumor. The tumor was suppressing my T- level while my prolactin levels were very high. My daughter was born during that time and they were surprised that I was able to get an erection. But I had no such problems.
When the tumor was removed by Dr. Nelson Oyesiku, neurosurgeon from Emory University, my T-levels went through the roof.
My levels went from below 200 to 1000 in a few months.
I'm not lying when I say that my senses were HEIGHTENED!!

Anyway, months later, I said better, get myself to the hospital thinking it was my heart until the cat scan.
Everyone came running. Respiratory emergency, pulse opp 83, and here comes the Heparin. Fast forward.... on Eliquis for 5 months and feel blah after going cold turkey from 50 mg of T every 2 weeks for years.
At 68 my T is 280 now. No longer go the gym and feel old. So tempted to shoot up (ha) from my left over prescription. I guess living is better than checking out. Miss the 700 range for sure. The strength is shot in the ass. Gone are the 50lb each arm dumbbell incline presses. No desire for anything now. Just a old man now.

Really like the "hosp patient portal" to monitor my test results.
I always had to know "my numbers." Never liked when a doctor says, results were good or everything is okay. Had to know the specifics.
Go for another T check and PSA check this month ordered by my urologist since weather/seasons of the year can supposedly affect T levels. Never heard that one... BTW, the Hemo doctor checked to see if I was prone to clotting genetically. Negative results.
All agree that the best thing for me is to remain off T supplementation unless I remained on a blood thinner. This is not the ideal choice, however.

I’m 53 yo and had my testosterone blood work given at about 3:20 pm and it was 721 about 5 days ago. I throughout the winter take ice baths in the Penobscot River here in MAINE of the US. This will help raise your testosterone levels . Also pine pollen tincture is supposed to raise testosterone too.
Back in September of 2020 it tested 546. I stop the ice baths all through summer and periodically take cold showers as these are also supposed to help raise (T) too. So if i had my current blood work taken in 7-8am range would be more preferred? I’m a fitness fanatic but also have to be concerned with my full time job of taking care of my type 1 juvenile diabetes.
So how much difference for a athletic fit 53 yo in the 5- 8 am time frame is their compared to when I gave my blood work at 3:20 pm? So instead of 721 would it be maybe 20-30 points higher?

Testosterone deficiency/status isn't defined by the total testosterone, free testosterone drives the effects on the T receptors. Total testosterone by itself is meaningless. Higher SHBG, higher total testosterone and not necessarily higher free testosterone. Free testosterone declines by 50% between ages 40-80, even as total testosterone remains unchanged for decades. This increases the risk of prostate cancer by 53%.

We need to have another discussion, what was normal in USA was 720 ng/dl in the 70’s, until the early 80’s. In the period between 1999 to 2004 testosterone was 534 ng/dl. For the average American man in the period of 2013 - 2016, testosterone was 420 ng/dl. None of this is normal, and it started shortly after the industrial revolution. So our testosterone has been artificially, reduced overtime, none of this is natural or normal. If we keep playing this normal range game, we are going to find ourselves in trouble, so let’s stop lowering the bar for the human condition. If insurance companies no longer insisted, trials would be offered to anyone symptomatic because before TSH blood testing was a thing, doctors treated the symptoms. Raw hormone values don’t really tell you anything, like CAG repeats long/short to the receptor for testosterone. The EDC’s, or endocrine disrupting chemicals can make one resistant to hormones at the cellular level and change how. Add in metabolic syndrome and your requirements for hormones is higher. I’m not talking about bodybuilding levels or abusing testosterone, I’m firmly against it! None of these studies even record the Free T, only the Total T, which is troubling considering everyone has a little bit different ratio of free hormones. As with anything in nature, there has to be variability, even in the binding affinity for SHBG, binding up testosterone. The SHBG is the most understudied sex hormone, it can bind testosterone, high levels don’t bind up all your testosterone, because once fully saturated, Free T levels rebound.

I'm 53 I just had mine tested last week. I have been on blood pressure meds for the last 10 months and they have intermittent ed symptoms which is annoying. You mention it to the Doctors and its ohh your getting older. BS no issues at all then it starts with in days of meds my age isn't the factor. So anyways the Testosterone test was quite the shock as I assumed it be low. 798 ruled that out.

I just had a total testosterone level checked. They only did one test, and I had it done at about 8:45am. The results showed me at 650 which according to the chart they provided is almost center, slightly above in the normal range, I've had some symptoms that seem like it would be from lower T but my levels are right in the normal range according to the chart they provided. We're they supposed to do a second test later on, only one was ordered.

There are various reasons for low T in teenagers / young adults / men. One factor that is oftentimes neglected is endocrine disruptors in the diet and hypothyroidism (i.e. Hashimoto's disease or subclinical hypothyroidism). There are many ways to increase testosterone naturally. Diet, supplements and lifestyle changes can make a tremendous difference in boosting testosterone, growth hormone and hormones in general. Sleeping before 10 p.m. works wonders for your endocrine health. Including more cholesterol in your diet which is a precursor to all steroid hormones helps as well - eggs, dairy, organ meats and animal / saturated fats in general. Weightlifting, especially multi-joint exercises, such as deadlifts and squats, have been shown in various studies to increase testosterone and growth hormone levels. Tribulus Terrestris is a famous supplement that offers short-term results and doesn't address the root cause of testosterone deficiency. No one has a Tribulus deficiency. Concerning supplements, the big 3 are 1) Magnesium 2) Vitamin D 3) Zinc. Go for a magnesium formula that contains many forms of magnesium as every isoform carries unique benefits compared to others. Concerning vitamin D, go for a product that is sourced from whole foods and in liquid form to maximize absorption. Do not use more than 2,000 IU per serving because over the 2,000 IU mark there are malabsorption issues. Break the dose into 2 or 3 doses across the day, depending on when you consume a high-fat meal (vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that requires fat to be efficiently absorbed in the intestines). When it comes to zinc, use zinc picolinate 30 - 40 mg per day taken with a fat-containing meal as zinc picolinate is partially fat-soluble. A nice read on increasing T levels naturally through weightlifting, nutrition and supplements is Vintage Physique by George Kelly.

I was born with Klinefelter Sydrome where 1 out of every 500 males are born with. It's not from my parents. I just happened to be the unlucky one! It all comes down to genetics and chromosomes. To which is where my body DOESN'T produce Testosterone so I have been injecting 1.5CC's of Cypionate every 2wks for about the last 9yrs. I used to use Andro Gel but stopped a long time prior to injecting. Im now 45yrs old. But back in the day not knowing about this condition. (I found out in 2003 I was 26) It was a daily struggle! Without it, I had no sex drive, no motivation whatsoever! I even had a Dr say to me prior to me knowing what was going on with me. How do I get out of bed in the morning? After seeing my lab results and my Testosterone levels were practically nothing. I have 2 arms & 2 legs so because I'm not disabled I always pushed myself to get shit done! When I was late 30's I started exercising quite a bit after being out of shape for a decade or so. I assume it was the boost in T levels from that exercise that actually changed my personality in some significant ways. Not that I was ever passive, but I felt like I had the aggressiveness and impulsive mindset of some 18 year old kid. For all the good and bad that entails. Someone cuts me off in traffic, I wanted to rip their head off. My wife (or others!)...caveman impulses to whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. It was actually a bit unsettling (didn't fight anyone in the street or drag anyone back to the cave, I still had self-control).
I have more sympathy now for young male athletes that must have high T levels based on the poor choices they make, surrounded by easy groupie sex. Thinking of guys like Mike Tyson and Kobe Bryant.
Now 50, out of shape again but ramping up exercise these days. Will be curious to see if this happens again and to what degree.

I did a blood draw at a clinic 2 years ago, I was 52 and my count came back at 836 NG/DL then I did a home test recently (which was actually messy and hard to do) and only scored 455 NG/DL. The clinic test was early AM, the home draw was late afternoon and two years on. I am skeptical about the quality of the home draw results, but they are what they are. According to the data I'm way over the average for my age, yet I still suffer low T symptoms and that is because it's the FREE testosterone that counts apparently. Total Testosterone matters, but a lot of it can bind with SHBG which takes it out of circulation, consider it a bit like owing money, you earn a $1000 USD but you owe someone $950 so in reality you really only have $50 to spend. That is a lot like the effect of Testosterone. Total incoming test can be high but if you have a high SHBG draw then what you have to use can be low and that's why you're getting low test symptoms.

Just a general comment here about today's healthcare and testosterone levels. I am 70 so these studies pretend I don't exist, which is concerning in itself. My healthcare comes from Kaiser (an HMO) which is very much like being back in the army. I get yearly blood tests but they NEVER specify time of day or take multiple samples, so the numbers -- while not useless -- are not as useful as they could be if done with more care. My Kaiser doc always points at the chart where it shows how I rank for my age and I'm always slightly above the line. So I'm maybe 105 percent of what is average for my age. To him, that's good. But to your point it still isn;'t great. Now here is what I say to my Kaiser doc EVERY DAMNED YEAR: "So you are telling me I'm just slightly behind schedule TO DIE and I should view that as good?" This big medical operation wants me to live a little longer, but not a lot longer because that would cost them more money. They don't want to be seen as incompetent, but have no incentive to exceed expectations. This is not at all customer- or life-centric and it drives me crazy.

Dr. Malik, aren't the effects of someone's testerone level that you mentioned have to do more with their FREE TESTOSTERONE levels? It seems it would be necessary to know this since the
overall testosterone level isn't enough to show a problem..or so I hear? Correct me if I'm wrong but a guy could have an overall level which s higher l e range yet have a free T .level in the
that falls low, or even not high enough to make it within the clinical range
