      Why? Its a show car. Having the emblem there is like driving with the hood open which every mopar guy does at a car show. Lol. But really a 72 dodge demon with a demon engine and engine parts with demon badges would be great.

    I still have my 72 Demon. Looks almost like this. Hemi-Orange. Had those Cragers on it. Because those were the only mags you could get in a 4” bolt pattern. The past 2 years I have refreshed it with a nice 360, 833 tranny, and an 8 3/4 3.55 rearend. Same black decals. And I even have that same spare tire. Of course it won’t fit now. I put bigger bolt pattern wheels on it. But I got the same Crager SS mags. Good looking car. 👍

    This is what Dodge should have done instead of calling a Challenger with a big engine a Demon. I had a new Demon 340 in 1971. It was red with the black stripe like this one. Black interior with a bench seat in the front. Had the 150 MPH speedometer, no tach though. Had no power steering, and the front brakes were drum. No carpet either, just rubber like in a truck. It was a blast to drive, wish I had never sold it. Didn't really know what I had. The engine was balanced and blueprinted from the factory.

    What a cool dealership High end classics is from what I'm seeing one of the best even down to the shops well maintained state and for the featured Demon it truly is special. I am very impressed with this build and it's overall look , great choice of wheels also . I can't imagine what it must feel like remembering back to my 1970 , 340 Swinger , wow twice the power of the 340 and that got me into the mid 14 s , if it had a standard trany with the mentioned Dana . Thanks Steve

    • @zxtenn
      @zxtenn Рік тому

      MORE than twice the power, stock 70 340 only 275 but regardless its a beautiful build but straight line throttle only. I remember the Swinger, in reality most of those old cars were high 14 and 15 flat cars but with that suspension they felt fast and for the day were. A new SS Camaro would walk on a 69 396/375 but a 427 Yenko would be neck and neck in the 1/4.
      I always loved the Demon 340 design

    • @frankjohnson6342

      The big heavy Dana was not necessary as the 8 3/4” could take just about as much abuse but without the extra weight. Before NHRA started getting more liberal with the rules the 1968 race Hemi Darts & Barracudas used to run them to save weight over the Dana 60.

    When we get the tag, we can brag:
    FE5 for Bright Red exterior paint, U for USA spec vehicle, R11 for AM Music Master radio, E24 for 225 Slant Six with one barrel, aka "Leaning Tower of Power", 826 for 8/26/71 production which was a Wednesday, D34 for Torqueflite automatic transmission, G15 for tinted windshield only, TX9 for upper door panel color of black, B1X9 should be black interior trim.
    With the VIN we win: L for Dodge Dart/Demon series, L for low price class, 29 for two door sports hardtop, C for 225 Slant Six with one barrel, aka "LTP", 2 for 1972 model year, B for Hamtramck, MI assembly aka "Factory Zero" or Dodge Main (which opened in 1911 and closed in 1980), and the rest is the production sequence. Loon Motors was located at 117 East 1st Avenue in Mitchell, SD.

    You make fun of the 8 3/4” rear end but it’s so strong that they are coveted by some super comp dragster’s because it’s about as strong as the 9” Ford with less weight, they have a similar construction.

    • @johnr.4853
      @johnr.4853 Рік тому

      Yes, but some are stronger than others. The weakest being the 741 case it had a small pinon diameter. Next you had the 742 case it had a bigger diameter then the 741 case, it also was a straight pinon. Next you had the 489 case. This was the biggest pinon they had. It was a tapered pinon.

    • @frankjohnson6342
      @frankjohnson6342 Рік тому +1

      @@johnr.4853 I had the 489 case with a sure grip with 3:91 gears in a 1970 4 speed Duster that had a nowhere near stock engine for those days and it saw a few thousand power shifts using a short throw V-gate shifter and I never had any problems with that rear end, not even with the spider gears. So if someone wants to put aftermarket axles and a spool in one of them , I don’t think that they could easily break it. Even some of the 68 race Hemi Darts & Barracuda’s switched to them to save weight.
