this is the one and only performance I know of Mahler's famous-infamous drinkingsong in which a delirium of tremens with its chaotic, terrible, insane moments becomes almost tangible. Frightening, horrifying beautiful in essence. What a unprecedented performance by King, Bernstein and the orchestra!
One of the best " Das Lied der Erde" recordings ever! Kings vocal technic and musicanship is outstanding. His diction is excellent he gives a performance full of emotions yet he is tastful and sensitiv! Perfect example of real first class singing!
This doesn't belong here but somewhere in the noumenal. Everything is absolutely perfect from the force of the beginning to the final crash, not one note is played without 100% of desperate passion. King lives up to his name indeed. I forgot the unbelievable high C at 5:00 from the principal trumpet !
