"I can't believe Spike can see it and they can't". Spike understands Love better than any of them. He understood Buffy and Angel better than they did. He may be evil, but he leads with his heart.
Yes Spike has always been knowledgeable with romance and I never understood that until The “fool for love” episode
Not to mention he’s man enough to admit he’s loves bitch.
This may repeat a couple things from an earlier reply, but: as Drusilla said, vampires can love, if not wisely. There is an element of the demon soul animating them that is capable of love, and therefore, of some kind of emotional evolution, which explains Spike’s story arc with regard to loving and protecting Buffy
And thus... A Spuffy shipper is made

Just like he was genuinely jealous of David Boreanaz since his real life girlfriend at the time (not the mother of his only child at the time) told him she liked angel to make him jealous as she was jealous of his Drusilla love scenes

I was just like you when I first saw this episode. I never knew that I wanted Spuffy until this episode, but once I saw this episode there was nothing I wanted more. Even as someone who previously shipped Bangel pretty hard, I'd totally give up any chance at any future Bangel moments if it meant the chance for more Spuffy!
The fact is that Sarah Gellar and James Marsters played their 'relationship' so naturally that everyone was on board with it before the episode was halfway done.

I always thought Spike knows more about love than anyone in the Buffyverse.
If 'Passions' was still on it might still be a good joke, as they also reference Buffy when they realized BtVS was referencing them.
Riley is cringy and boring and it doesn't have as much to do with Angel as you were trying to make yourself think. If he was Buffy's first boyfriend, he would be playing that way as well.
"Something I never knew I wanted." The term Spuffy {Sp((ike & B) uffy} was born with this episode.
I like to call this the fanfiction episode.
Eh, I wasn't in fandom at the time but I really, really doubt that the idea of Spuffy was born because of this episode. I'd guess that it existed at least since season 2. They've always had weird enemy/frenemy chemistry that could be made a lot of if you're into the Batman/Catwoman kind of pairings. Fandoms have made ships based on far less. (Heck, fandoms are known to make ships out of characters that have never even met...)
I disagree that Spike understands love when he is soulless. His thinking that he could torture Drusilla into loving him again and the entire season 6 arc show that he doesn't really get human love because his demon side is warping his point of view. Human William/Spike has a pretty decent grasp of it, but having a demon inside him warps everything about him.
FrakkinToaster Luvva; I agree that Spuffy, the idea, has existed since 'School Hard' because that is the way James Marsters says he played the scene of watching Buffy while she danced in The Bronze. What I have corrected on my own comment (because it is what I meant as someone who was part of the fandom from day one of the show) is that the term Spuffy has existed since then. Fans called this and Bangel B/S and B/A, (the first letter of people's names with a slash in the middle) which is the way it was with a lot of fandoms back then. This is around the time that started changing.
Matt; I stand by my statement. But there is so much more to it that I didn't put into the statement. Your comments have made me wish I had. For one, notice that I said he understands it. It doesn't mean he has ever been good at putting it into action for himself. As a human or with a soul he had trouble with doing that. Seeing it in other people is what he is great at. Not many people on the show (or the people I personally know in real life) are very good at it. I do understand your comments as you probably understand mine and we both most likely think there is more to it than the other has mentioned, because there is. The writers have called Spike an enigma for a reason.

@@Matt-dl5zu Well Souless Spike has his flaws BUT souless Spike was also the one that called Angel/Buffy out saying they’ll never be friends and he was right. He still had his perks . Him being evil didn’t take away his knowledge of romance, but as you said, before his soul.’ He didn’t always execute it properly.
The whole Buffy and Spike spell was my favorite part of this episode.

A bit of trivia. The Father-Son relationship the actors had got transfered to the show, considering Giles' actor taught spike how to speak in a London English accent.

The issue I had with Riley was not only he was "boring", but the actors had no chemistry (in my opinion at least). I feel for a relationship to work on film you either need interesting characters (on both ends), or at least the actors having chemistry. The other "issue" being, in this episode we see not only two interesting characters paired together, but the actors also prove whether enemies, or lovers that they have chemistry. Even in "School Hard" when they were at the very beginning of knowing each other (as characters and actors) they still had chemistry.

this is also a favorite, and the next one. the Pangs-Something Blue-Hush stretch is one of the show's high points. Spuffy! With your new appreciation for them, you should go back and watch some of their earlier scenes. There's a lot of subtextual goodness back in Season 2 to enjoy.

She and xander have been friends for years. I don't care that she's drunk... in fact it's making this even worse..considering the fact that he lives basically under his constantly drunk and fighting family.

I think part of it was also that they were worried that Willow was using alcohol as a way to cope and could have ended up developing a far more serious problem.

Excellent reaction! It was grand. In my opinion watching paint dry would be infinitly more exiting than pretty much anything with Riley.
It's so wonderful to watch a 1st time reaction on these. I watched these when they originally aired when I was a kid and again when it was on Netflix and I bought them for myself last year and watched them again. Watching you watch it reminds me of the 1st time. it's great.
Riley is one of the most universally despised characters of the entire series. You're definitely not alone in your feelings about him or his relationship with Buffy...

I always thought Riley was boring. I liked how this foreshadowed Spuffy becoming an actual thing later in the show.
Growing up, I was always really loved Buffy and Riley but as I got older, I realized that the reason behind that was because I just wanted Riley for myself haha. Awkward goofballs are kind of my type. It's a gift and a curse...

Your Angel episode ''I will remember you'' Got taken down. I was just finished watching your reaction and dropping some comments about some side information about the episode when i refreshed and saw that it was gone.
I must admit I've never seen any reactor being hit so hard with copy right issues especially for shows that aren't being aired anymore.
It happens to a lot of reactors i've found.
Fox normally unblocks if I dispute after a day or so but I can't be bothered at this point.

As i said darling already watched the episode before it got taken down. Loved your reaction. Also its funny how you compare Riley with Matt. Both are widely regared as boring character but if watched closely both are actually pretty complicated written characters.
Also fun little fact about the Angel episode. If you listen closely during the end when Angel is trying to calm down Buffy the actor playing Angel David Boreanez breaks character and says Sarah.

I wish I could read the comments for IWRY, as I look forward to the Angel reactions more than the Buffy ones (I find Angel to be the superior show for the most part, from here on out). I know a lot of people think Angel made a selfish decision, but I was glad to see you weren't so shortsighted.There's something about the end of Angel season 1, when it finally finds it's footing, that... I don't know, always makes me feel hopeful. I can remember watching it in the Spring of 2000...
I can't watch something like Daredevil, without seeing Matt, Karen and Foggy, in their little office, and NOT think of season 1 of Angel, with his little group, starting up their business in a little office.
That said, my favourite episode of Buffy aired in the Spring of 2000.

Daredevil season 1 and Angel season 1 are completely different in tone, structure, characterizations and pretty much everything (even though the showrunners of Daredevil worked on Angel - but they worked on later seasons of Angel).
BTW, I find Buffy by far the superior show to Angel.
