  • Having lunch at an authentic Filipino Diner in Old Manila City is a special kind of joy. I don't have too many opportunities to get out of the comfort zone of BGC nearly often enough, but here you can check out this old school way of how locals get together for a warm meal.
    I have tried bulalo only a handful of times when visiting Cavite, the place that is known for it more than any other, and here it was just about as amazing as I remember it to be.

    Most people do not know what Filipino cuisine is. But I think finding a home cook resto outside PH is quiet a challenge too. What others do not know is that Filipino cuisine is complicated and exquisite at the same time. It is in fact difficult to describe it. However, a cuisine that definitely needs to be discovered. Kudos to you I'm salivating as I watch you eat 😂🤣😂

      Thank you very much for this wonderful feedback. I totally agree! Filipino cuisine is truly special, in part because of its rich history. I think bulalo is the one dish that truly exemplifies the rich culture and history of the Philippines through "food diplomacy".

      Which pinoy dish is complicated?

      @@user-tk4yj7fl3h pares, bulalo, kare kare, palabok and legua pampagenño. They are not very complicated but you have to have to ingredients and time to cook it. Otherwise not as good.

    Very nicely presented! And good idea to show also a normal Filipino restaurant. Great way to see what food the city offers without going there 😅.

      It was really good, but better to split that for two people because it was just too much.

    bone marrow is actually extremely nutritious. it doesn't contain cholesterol. only rich with healthy fats like omega-3 fatty acids. just don't eat too much.

    the bird chillies are not eaten on its own. for light coloured soups like bulalo or nilaga, you need to prepare condiment of calamansi+ fish sauce + sili. for a plateful of food (ie the rice you drenched with soup), probably 1 teaspoon condiment is added to uplift umami

    You separate soap from rice so that you can taste the real taste of bulalo.

    • @TimelessFoodTravels
      @TimelessFoodTravels  9 місяців тому

      I tried the bulalo by itself as well, but I prefer the taste of the two mixed together. I always mix things together like that, whether it's rice, buckwheat or quinoa that I like mixing with the soup. The soap I use for washing my hands before the meal 😁

    So many Fake Bulalo everywhere. The worst i had recently was a Bulalo soup with no bones at all. But you will pay so much for the name. Everyond just pretending to know how to cook. Bulalo is just regular beef soup in so many places.

      That sounds like BILO, Bulalo in Name Only. Emriz has a good reputation for authentic Filipino food and Bulalo is just one example.
