You have to remember that the current American right-wing, pro-Russian perspective is based mostly on Russian propaganda rather than nuanced understanding of the political and cultural landscape that exists between Russia and Ukraine. They don't need the facts to be on their side as they are arguing on the side of Aleksandr Dugin-esque "truth by perspective". In their mind, their truth is just as relevant as the truth based on fact, since each person's perspective heavily informs the worldview they see as true.
Ironic that the same Jordan B. Peterson who's dedicated his entire career to railing against the epistemological relativism of "postmodernist cultural Marxists" is adhering to one of the broadest, anti-intellectual understandings of factual relativism as long as it serves his right-wing, pro-imperialist perspective.

I swear, through all of his rambling, I keep asking myself: "But what about Ukraine?". He keeps talking about what the West and Russia should do with Ukraine, and how trans people might be relevant to this conflict, yet barely gives any time to the party that is suffering the most, and also has the most to lose(outside nuclear conflict). Freedom and sovereignty.

He doesn't even really answer why trans people are relevant to the conflict, he just says that he thinks Putin is also transphobic and that's apparently why he started a war? He doesn't exactly offer any causal link other than "I think Putin agrees with me", which is not actually an explanation it's just an assertion.

I love that he says "none of us (in the West) give a damn about Ukraine" and just ... forgets all of Europe, lol, it's pretty hard not to care here. Recently, I went to the memorial service for a 90-year-old Ukrainian woman. She was actually born during the Holodomor, survived the 2nd World War, only to die last month when her leg was amputated after getting hit by a bomb. The only grace is that she was gone before learning her son was shot during the same attack. Her daughter wanted to hold the memorial (with us, none of whom knew her mother, in a foreign country) because she was told that a proper burial hadn't been possible, so even if she could go back, there is no grave she could go to. She also asked to add a prayer for the Russian mothers who lost their sons in Ukraine.
I've had Ukrainian friends for years, who moved here after 2014 because the economic situation was becoming so bad that they just couldn't find jobs. Basically, none of them have slept in months because in addition to caring for their family members who were able to come here, they volunteer as translators for other refugees everywhere they can. We're still looking for livable housing for most of their families. There's a woman from Moscow in that same friend circle, who also helps with translating, but of course is constantly berated - sometimes (unfairly but somewhat understandably) by refugees for being Russian, and all the time by her Russian relatives for being a "naive traitor who believes Western propaganda".
Of course I'd care, even if I hadn't been politically active before. But I guess this man's brain is too broken by crying about the loss of "European values".

Hi, I know I'm responding to this very late but I only came across this video now. First of all thank you for sharing your story, its a really inspiring tale of togetherness and caring for people going through a terrible thing.
Secondly, I'm not sure if other people have touched on this in their replies, but usually when people like this mention "the west" what they're actually refering to is just the US. They operate of the principle that anything the US does Europe will automatically go along with just because. They try to transplant the American views on things onto Europe and European affairs when the political climate in the two are nowhere near comparable. They also tend to conveniently ignore events that contradict their narrative, like France and Germany opposing the Iraq War for instance. If you were to tell Peterson, or to be fair mostly anyone on in American politics, left or right, about the nuances in European affairs, or how Europe actually fits into the world, the war in Ukraine, and the stakes several European nations have in this war then they'd be completly lost because they cannot transplant the system they've become so used to onto something that is more complex and multi-layered that doesn't excuse any biases they might have.
Sorry for it being a bit of a lengthy comment, thanks again for sharing the story you did, hope the 2 Ukranian people you mentioned are doing well and coping in these trying times.

Also considering that the Supreme Court in the US is literally politically appointed diversity on it's own is actually a really good argument since you'd want the Supreme Court to be representative of the population, if nothing else to increase trust in it. The courts in the US don't operate like in Europe where they're a purely professional organization that select their members internally and have basically no real political power, instead the courts in the US have elected positions and enormous political power. Given that's the case it makes sense to ensure that the courts are diverse and represent the broader population so that they don't stand in the way of democracy.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Jordan B Peterson. The psychology is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of evolutionary biology most of the quotes will go over a typical beta-male's head. There's also Jordan's individualistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Jungian literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these quotes, to realize that they're not just profound- they're 12 deep rules about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Jordan B Peterson truly ARE postmodern neo-marxists- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the western values in Jordan's psychological catchphrase "Clean up your room," which itself is a cryptic reference to Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's eponymous work The Gulag Archipelago. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Mikhaila Peterson's genius unfolds itself on their UA-cam lecture. What fools... how I pity them.
And yes by the way, I DO have a Jordan B Peterson tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

I know Peterson's stances on today 'Western World', so it was not a shock for me to hear him trying to stuff it as an argument with his boot in every issue he talks about, but man, I didn't realize how fucking ignorant this man is about world in general. Not only he's quite late to the party with this 'realist' bullshit (never hearing about Bucha massacre, infamous What should Russia do with Ukraine?' by
Timofey Sergeytsev, various Putin's claims about his goals), but thinking Central and Eastern European countries are 'scared' about 'western degenaration' (his own words) and would prefer Russia taking stronger position here (shoving in Estonia together with Georgia and Kazachstan to one bag, not fucking knowing shit I guess about Estonia being part of the EU and NATO and bordering Russia at the same time), not even trying to pronounce 'holodomor' correctly (I'm guessing he's learned about this day before he published his 'essay')... Don't let me even start with conviction that it's obvious nobody cares about Ukraine and it's all 'virtue signaling' to say you do (probably because he's projecting his 'virtue' of not caring about anything other than himself on others).
I think he could have sum it all up with 'I don't like Putin that much, but what about the degenerate West? Both war on Ukraine and Elliot Page calling himself Ellen are bad, but we all know we don't care about Ukraine, but we do care about Elliot Page not having an opportunity to live his life as a woman. So we must let Putin win, because his deep christian values of hating LGBTQ+ people are important to rebuild the West the way I want'. He's so fucking vile, ignorant and stupid it hurts, god.

The only two countries in Eastern Europe he knows about are Poland and Hungary, and that's because they have far right governments that keep getting into trouble with the EU for doing borderline fascist shit. Ironically both of those countries would insist that they're actually Central European and that the real Eastern Europe is the Baltics, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia and Finland, and ironically appart from Belarus and Russia all of those countries have had liberal and left of center governments lately and have seen growing acceptance of LGBTQ people, sometimes as a direct response to Russian aggression and a wish to move closer to the west. I mean one of those countries is Finland, a Nordic democracy with a strong welfare state that's pretty famous for giving free homes to homeless people and basically doing everything Jordan Peterson would hate.
