@@royvincent9250 I’ve been there too!! I told my wife I was coming home after doing some night fishing. As I was packing drag starts screaming on my big rod and reel setup. Had a 7 foot 152 pound alligator gar on the end of it! That was about a hour fight then went home lol.
Yup. My “last cast” usually lasts about 45 minutes, lol

I kayaked under bob sikes recently and there are definitely some GIANT spades under there! Very underrated fish. super clean white meat and good eating!
Ps. I tried to fish them the same way you were, hiding the hook with skinned shrimp but they just weren't eating that day.

Ok guys....no lie, just yesterday was chatting with a friend on facebook about fishing off that bridge. Talking about catching white trout...cleaning and cooking them right there. Hushpuppies and french fries with the trout just caught! Oh man some fine eating! Back then drove out on the bridge from the beach side and the kids loved it.

Is the pier the old bridge from the Pensacola side. I used to fish the old bridge 59 years ago when I lived in GulfBreeze as a sixteen year old teenager.
Won't be able to watch until after work, but had to get it started on the lunch break! Glad to see the content just rolling on and on man. Love every upload.
So me and my buddy Daniel from work have been going out there every Friday for the past 4-5 weeks and have caught monster reds and specs and a bunch of other species including a a 20-25lb red snapper. We needed something new since Hurricane Sally took out the dock lights we used to fish.
Laughing my ass off at that over the shoulder toss release on that second fish 😆 🤣 😂 I'm dying here.

Under the sunshine skyway about a year or two after it was hit I had the greatest fishing trip with spade fish . Love the video. Dad got frustrated like Brant and got those big ones with his cast net

Brant grew up there, he was also a guide. Ron is new to everything there. And he still catches some fish.

Great video once again. When I was a kid, that restaurant was called boy on a dolphin. But the beach side of the bob sikes bridge has always been pretty good. Especially if you’re throwing a net for mullet.
That would be a good catch and cook... mullet and cheese grits with hush puppies.
Used to catch nice White Trout off that bridge when I was stationed there... Miss it ... Pensacola back on the bucket list of fishing holes.

Cool stuff. Back in my old off shore days I never missed an opportunity to put a few in the cooler if the rig we were fishing on had some on it. You're right though, very overlooked fish.

I lived in New Orleans for awhile and quickly learned that they love heat in their food, no matter what it is. Celery helps cut the heat a little. Water does not nor milk. Try celery, bite a stalk of that... have you ever tried SWEET BABY RAYS BBQ SAUCE ???

Haven’t tried spades yet but they’re beautiful and only caught small ones in a cast net but Galveston TX has some 12-14inchers
When we were kids we would get them in the open top crab traps down at the pier in safety harbor we would eat the big ones they taste great.

I love catching spade fish! I usually use canon ball jellyfish, for spades love them.
Love Sarah's hair, but today's straightened out look is super cool! Yeah, the fishing was fun too. I think spade fish are delicious.

We used to have Spade fish tournaments back in the 70's, the only rule we had was you had to use a Zebco 202 reel.

I saw that yankee rig with the road fish and I was really disappointed in you until I saw what happened. The wire, beads and big hook remind me of catching snook in front of tourists who were jealous because they caught hard heads and skates, lol. Good times.

ive caught two of my onshore PB's there bull red and shovelhead shark and yes Ron publix chicken is good when its fresh and the rotisserie is pretty spot on to

I bet they have stolen your bait. They're harder than sheepshead to hook, pretty tricky. Tiny hooks help. But I never ate one. And I haven't caught more than a couple. Mostly I've seen them spearfishing but I didn't think they were worth shooting.

We tried there after nothing on the beach the 3rd piling on the opposite of where y’all were catching the spades had sheepshead on them real close.

Brant, I agree with you a 100% about flavor over heat when it comes to hot sauce. So I found some that fits the bill. Bulliard's Louisiana Hot Sauce. I found it at Grocery Outlet in Pace. I think you will like it!

Biggest spec trout I ever caught was there, probably 40", I swear.
Egg sinker, swivel, 7'-10' long10lb test leader, small live bait hook, live shrimp hooked under the horn.
Run weight to the bottom, then crank up a foot or two.
Bet I caught a 100 specs there 18"+.
Thought that restaurant blew away........

Me and my brothers used to go fish the bridge in Pensacola every fall and caught tons of fish,,,back when you could drive out on it. Not user if that was the same one> I sure miss that. last time I was on it driving was the day of 9/11.
Never caught spade fish there but we have filled cooler fulls of spanish, white trout and reds. I really want to take my kayak out there under it now.

If you like Publix fried chicken, which is OK it’s not bad but you have to try. Albertsons are used to drive 20 miles out of the way to get their chicken and you’re right Fish are good eating if you get one big enough.
