Hey Skipper. In Hawaii we use a Carolina rig type to fish. Whipping is what we locals call it, usually it consists of main line through a egg lead or a spin float. There is also resin floats or sinkers also used as well in replacement for the lead. A barrel swivel is attached below the egg lead to leader line and attached to a hook. Usually a circle hook, MZ or AH Hook. Bait used varies, live bait slow retrieve dead bait or cut slow retrieve as well. Plastics and soft baits are also used depending on sunlight and clarity of the water. The retrieve method is more medium to fast with tip and wrist action to attract fish. I believe it one of the most useful rigs out there and keeps you actively fishing.
When I was in Tampa last, about a month ago there were lots of people fishing off of Ballast Point in Tampa, right next to the yacht club. It's very Rocky but people were catching all sorts of things including Bait fish, and the birds were feeding pretty well too.. Like Pelicans.
I was just in Key Largo, Tampa and Clearwater last week visiting buddies and fishing! Def gonna hit that spot up next time I'm out there. Love me some mangrove and pompano
Hey skipper, i love your videos. Where is this spot, im going to Tampa to fish. I suggest you add name of location of the spots you go to, so locals (like me😏) can check these spots out. I haven't seen you in my favorite spot in a while... Sebastian inlet
this was a good one, your new learned method ,banana-jigging is more sportfishing,i like it. better than taking live bait which suffer to death with no result at all(grouperfreelining, kind of brutal: i wouldn t do that every day, but i would like to do it one time. ). new music is fresh also :all in all nice channel. i like it, because you get connected to the locals- that is good habit to do. gettin down on the pier with the locals. you keep fishing real.thx
Hey skipper, I really enjoyed your video. I’m new to central Florida and will love to visit that same location. Where was it ? Can your tell me the about your fishing gear ? What rod and reel where you fishing with ? It was 15 lbs line, correct ? What was the eight in the banana gigs ? Thank and I look forwarded many more videos ?
I dunno if u will even see this man but damn I been watching ur videos for weeks and today I caught my first fish from the surf! I am all the way in Namibia and your information is still relevant to us! Keep up the good work wish I could get some of ur salt baits out here to try but Man U got me hooked I wish I could share a picture of my first fish but ya man I got a black bream (known as galjoen here)
Hey Skipper I want to know have you tried using the Sougayling fishing reels and how many fish did you catch with the Sougayling fishing reels Baitcaster and the spin cast reel
For banana jig are you using braid for the main line? Connecting that from swivel to fluorocarbon? What kind of knot do you recommend? Tried this technique with banana jig tied directly to 17 lbs braid with an improved uni knot, with no luck. Wondering if the braid or knot played a role in the lack of action. Great channel btw.
Looks like sand key bridge in Clearwater. It's a good spot depending on tides, solunar forecast, and things like red tide =/. All the popular spots around Pinellas county like pier 60, john's pass, skyway, dunedin causeway/honeymoon, pass-a-grille pier, etc can all be productive. It's all about asking the people around you questions, researching spots on forums and google maps, and a bit of trial and error. I started fishing the skyway 15 years ago as a kid and I'm still learning and getting better at fishing the area. However, some of my favorite spots have come from walking a mile or so to spots I've found on google maps, or by accident. There's a lot of good spots around the barrier islands on Manatee/Sarasota like Longboat and Anna Maria Island that don't have red tide right now if you don't mind the drive. Good luck and if you have any questions lmk.
@@GODSWORD5 thank so much John. I really appreciate the help. I fish the skyway mostly right now cause I know I can get my friends on some mangrove action most days but I’m always looking for new spots to hit by myself and try first. Thanks so much for the advice, I’m hopefully gonna have myself a nice weekend of fishing thanks to it. Have a great night John and maybe I’ll see you out there!
@@mortymccoo523 No problem Morty, so many people have helped me so I don't mind passing along a bit of advice. I haven't been out to the skyway in a while but I've been wanting to target gags and mangroves so I might go down soon. You definitely won't see me on the weekend though, those are the days I try to be a little adventurous to avoid the crowds. I'll probably end up going out there next week. Also, don't just limit yourself to the fishing piers on the skyway. The smaller bridges, the rocky areas around them, rock jetties, and under the fishing piers can be great spots too. I've seen the guy Bushi in this video fishing down underneath the south bridge for pompano before. I had a few days back in March where I hit the small bridge before the south pier and limited out on sheepshead everyday while also catching mangroves and jacks. However, I started off losing tens of dollars in weights and hooks cuz I got consistently snagged up and didn't know how to fish the spot. But after watching people for a while and actually making a few friends, I ended up getting it down. I'd only go to that spot in the winter and spring though.
In South east Asian country, we like to fish using ultralight set for jigging. Usually 7lb main line and 10lb leader with 5-20gm of jig depending on the tide and places. Using 2-6lb rod fishing is quite fun literally.
Hey skipper love watching your video I was able to catch this new one here your in Tampa Florida where I have family there ... I got my mom into watch with me and got together and gone fishing yesterday and what a surprise my sister went also she doesn’t eat seafood but caught few fish too But my question what kind of fish was that with wings on I caught 2 of them I released them I had use my shoes to take the hook out it’s Mount cause didn’t trust it thanks for all your videos I watch you and your wife every day
Anything works. I started with a 25$ combo and even caught Black Sea bass on it. As long as it doesn’t break, any cheap combo will do. What’s way more important is the quality of line, your skill in tying knots and your ability to find fish. Good luck and tight lines!
Hey Skipper, may I ask the size of the Jig and the type of skirt you are using? I think I found the jig on tackle direct but can't find the skirt to pair with it. Any help would be nice. Thank you in advance!
