    You did it again! 😃Got my story already and thought I'd have to hire an illustrator - part of why it was sitting there for so long. It on its own won an award and was included in a limited edition anthology. Now I know I can do it om my own.🙌🏾🙌🏾

    Great tutorial. It's helpful but I still worry about the copyright issues. Ma'am, please let us know how to check if the pictures on Canva are free royalty. For a beginner like me, it's a bit confusing to differentiate whether an element or an image on Canva is free royalty or not. Copyright is a big important issue. I know that many pictures or images on Canva are free royalty but some aren't and I don't know how to check them. I already try to modify the pictures, but it's better if I can check them for free royalty designs before making some designs on Canva using the elements provided by Canva. I'll really appreciate it if you can share this information with us. Thanks in advance.

      @@ivyhang5084 Thankyou for taking the time to answer. No it wasn't Canva (which I have now got to play with). One app was Scribblify they said you can do what you want with what you create. The other was I think it was called PicsArt they said no.
      I find it confusing because I am doing my own drawings and just using these apps to improve the way they look with filters etc.

    • @ivyhang5084

      You can use canva images as long as you are creating a unique and new design overall. Ie you cannot just plop one canva image on the page and call it a day. But if you layer a variety of images, fonts, text, backgrounds to create a unique page, cover, design, then you’ll be fine :)

    hello, I illustrated one of my future children's books with illustrations mainly from Canva. I would keep knowing if from a copyright point of view I can use them as you proposed in one of your videos. I did add a few elements to modify the images on each of the pages, sometimes I made an assembly of several illustrations. Do I have to put the mention copyright Canva on the page intended for legal mentions? If so, should I cite the whole book indicating that the book was illustrated with Canva or do I cite page by page illustrated by Canva. Thank you in advance for your answer.

    • @ivyhang5084

      Will be a bit more expensive to print in color than in black and white for sure but you will be able to factor that into your selling price to ensure a positive margin. Given Amazon kdp is print on demand, you don’t have to pay for printing fees until someone actually orders it. Hope this helps!

    I was quite interested as you explained the section of this picture book tutorial in which you talked about finding a character that comes in different poses and activities - like the bears opposed to your racoons. However I am really struggling to find many characters which are these types. Perhaps I am doing something wrong but I can't find suitible people, children, family members for my story who have these attributes in Canva, pixaby or creative fabrica. Perhaps this method of using premade clip art only works if you write your story AFTER you find the pictures?

    • @ivyhang5084
      @ivyhang5084  Рік тому

      Thanks for your question- this method does require some flexibility with your story and characters as truly you would be limited to what you are able to find :). I usually start with a high level plot in my head but then would be flexible with the characters and how they look - hope this helps to answer your question. Creative fabrica is also a good place to try to find more graphics - but based on my experience, Canva (especially if you have the pro version) would have quite a lot too. Good luck and thanks so much for watching!

I am writing a book now and illustrating the characters in different poses myself for different pages. But it sure would be easier to load them all into canvas and be able to click on them so I can add as many as I need for any particular poses or story movement rather than having to draw them repetitively. Hi Ivy, my dilemma with the KDP calculator is that it only allows cover templates for books with at least 76 pages. I'm writing children's books. So, none of them will be 76 pages long. How do I get an accurate cover template through the KDP calculator in this instance? Thank you so much for your content.

    • @ivyhang5084
      @ivyhang5084  Рік тому

      Sorry for my delayed response - Not sure where you got the 76 pages from. What are the dimensions of your book? Typically the min. page number should be 24 pages (say, for a 8.5" x 8.5" book). To generate a cover template use this link: kdp.amazon.com/cover-calculator

    Hi Ivy! I tried to use the amazon link to get correct measurements/margins for an 8.5x8.5 but when I entered what amazon came up with in Canva, it really did not look correct at all. Is that amazon link only for the front and back pages ? IDK it just didn't work in Canva for me. I also noticed that the Amazon link states you have to have a minimum amount of pages like 24-830. That seems like alot just for a children's book thats 8.5x8.5. Am I understanding that correctly?

    Hello Ivy! I love your videos. I always hear that it's not profitable to publish a children's story book on Amazon because of the very high cost of printing. If we choose colors for our interior it costs way more and many say to stick with black and white if you want a chance to make money. What is your advice and poing of view of that? I'd love to create books just like the one on this video but what is the point if they will not be worth publishing on Amazon because of the high cost? How did you get around that? You should also make sure when you go and upload your final book on Amazon KDP, you pick “right to left” as page turn direction too. If we use images from Canva, do we need to give credit to the artist? And if yes, what if we used images from many different artists? However you need to make sure you modify the design and not just take one picture on canva and make that your book cover. Modifying basically just means layering different images on one page (ie adding background etc) or even adding text etc. in the video we took various ready made graphic elements to create our own unique / original scenes - hope this helps!

      Color printing cost will depend on the size and number of pages. When you upload the book to kdp you will be able to see the printing costs and fees and can then price your book accordingly to ensure you make a profit with every sale :)
