I usually don't comment but feel like I need to do so today. I had set a target to publish a book on Amazon KDP for over 18 months but made no traction. Initially, I feared it might not measure up, and then I was concerned about where to start. Your video, along with the one where you created the square book, was all I needed to get started. The booking-making was a family affair (My 3 girls and I). It took us three days, but we have successfully published my first book. I had the experience with KDP, Canva content is one of the reasons why projects are rejected because it's commonly used by a lot of designers, Kdp doesn't like replication. But I liked the fact that you mentioned AI ( which I'm currently using).

Thank you so much for making such great tutorials! I would like to say that when I got to making my cover page I had to save the png file to my computer separately so I could upload it onto Canva. It would not let me copy and paste the image directly. Everything else has been spot on and I have enjoyed making my first coloring book. =)
The problem with making a coloring book this way is that the images will be quite inconsistent, with different thickness of the lines and them being quite different in style, which is never desirable, because chances are the buyers won't be happy about it. And another thing, the cover should only include the animals that are used within the interior, not just random animals, people expect the cover to depict what's actually inside the book.
That’s a really great point and would definitely recommend using one method or the other as opposed to mixing both (I wanted to show both methods for tutorial purposes so mixed them up in my video). However you are right that it would be best to make sure the lines are consistent from a thickness perspective:). The other way is on chat gpt to instead of saying black and bold lines you can say thin black lines to match the type of images you find on canva. Thank you for your comment!
I just created and listed my first Amazon colouring book. I will admit that I had the same thoughts. In the listing I do add a note saying that only the white sample images are in the book. I also thought about how there are a few different art styles which I'm not super fond of either, will add a note about that too. End of the day it was still a great helpful 101 tutorial to help get us started! I look forward to designing my very own hand drawn colouring books later this year. Wanted to get the practicalities out of the way first and just get started! There's so much to learn where passive income is concerned but it's also so much fun! 😀
I love this tutorial! But I have 1 question. Aren’t the Canva pictures copyrighted? I’m so scared to do something illegal! 😅 And it’s totally free to get it on Amazon? They just show you the costs so you know what price to put it out for? Thanx!
Question on margins for coloring book: I want to do 9 x 11.........I don't think it shows that size in the sizes table??? Thank you for your help! I LOVE your video! The closest thing would be 8.5 x11". Hopefully that would work for your coloring book too. I was surprised that you didn't show people to delete the template before uploading it to your computer. Otherwise, I've been working with Canva for seven months and you showed some features on Canva that I've never seen before. Now I just have to remember where they all were.

Regarding the removal of the cover template, it's a good point - in hindsight I should have shown that step as well. I personally never remove it though to be honest, as I end up adding elements that completely cover it anyway. However it is true that others may have different designs which may not have the cover template fully covered so I could have added that step in my video to clarify -appreciate your feedback!

Thank you for your kind comment! I honestly just chose this size because I was already creating a book in this size so easier to do the demo with it. However, with that said, you can totally choose a different size like 8.5 x 11 for your book. The same steps will still apply :)

I had the experience with KDP, Canva content is one of the reasons why projects are rejected because it's commonly used by a lot of designers, Kdp doesn't like replication. But I liked the fact that you mentioned AI ( which I'm currently using).

I will forever be grateful for you this is a simple side hustle I've ALWAYS wanted to pursue but was scared and in fear because I suck at drawing, I thought that literally was the only way! Thank you so much for making such great tutorials! I would like to say that when I got to making my cover page I had to save the png file to my computer separately so I could upload it onto Canva. It would not let me copy and paste the image directly. Everything else has been spot on and I have enjoyed making my first coloring book. =)

The problem with making a coloring book this way is that the images will be quite inconsistent, with different thickness of the lines and them being quite different in style, which is never desirable, because chances are the buyers won't be happy about it. And another thing, the cover should only include the animals that are used within the interior, not just random animals, people expect the cover to depict what's actually inside the book.
That’s a really great point and would definitely recommend using one method or the other as opposed to mixing both (I wanted to show both methods for tutorial purposes so mixed them up in my video). However you are right that it would be best to make sure the lines are consistent from a thickness perspective:). The other way is on chat gpt to instead of saying black and bold lines you can say thin black lines to match the type of images you find on canva. Thank you for your comment!
I just created and listed my first Amazon colouring book. I will admit that I had the same thoughts. In the listing I do add a note saying that only the white sample images are in the book. I also thought about how there are a few different art styles which I'm not super fond of either, will add a note about that too.
End of the day it was still a great helpful 101 tutorial to help get us started! I look forward to designing my very own hand drawn colouring books later this year. Wanted to get the practicalities out of the way first and just get started! There's so much to learn where passive income is concerned but it's also so much fun! 😀
I love this tutorial! But I have 1 question. Aren’t the Canva pictures copyrighted? I’m so scared to do something illegal! 😅 And it’s totally free to get it on Amazon? They just show you the costs so you know what price to put it out for? Thanx!

Question on margins for coloring book: I want to do 9 x 11.........I don't think it shows that size in the sizes table??? Thank you for your help! I LOVE your video! I have published 5 storybooks on KDP but now I want to create a coloring book to go along with the storybooks. I created my storybooks with Canva and love the program. Thank you for your video!!

The closest thing would be 8.5 x11". Hopefully that would work for your coloring book too. Thank you for the step-by-step tutorial of how to create your paperback book cover in Canva. I was surprised that you didn't show people to delete the template before uploading it to your computer. Otherwise, I've been working with Canva for seven months and you showed some features on Canva that I've never seen before. Now I just have to remember where they all were.

Regarding the removal of the cover template, it's a good point - in hindsight I should have shown that step as well. I personally never remove it though to be honest, as I end up adding elements that completely cover it anyway. However it is true that others may have different designs which may not have the cover template fully covered so I could have added that step in my video to clarify -appreciate your feedback!

Thank you for your kind comment! I honestly just chose this size because I was already creating a book in this size so easier to do the demo with it. However, with that said, you can totally choose a different size like 8.5 x 11 for your book. The same steps will still apply :)
