Honestly I thought they fixed the Master Engineer buffs stacking after Legend reviewed the Engineer+Trollhammers Doomstack in Warhammer 2, but it seems they "unfixed" it sometime after. I remember it not working when Warhammer 3 came out. The Trollhammer Doomstack probably works again, as well, they might as well get up to artillery range with 5-6 Engineers.
Grapeshot is a new toy, you'd have to be an idiot to think this wasn't going to be among the first doomstacks shown off. But don't worry, I know you're just upset because this isn't a thunderbarge stack. I can guarantee you that's coming soon too.

For all other dwarf campaigns organ guns are still some of the best artillery in the game, just malakai campaigns makes them a bit underwhelming compared to the meme that is grape shot canons.
The thing is that grapeshot proyectiles should be smaller than the cannonballs but if you pause the game and zoom in the cannons are just shooting like 6-8 regular cannon balls.

It's a bug when you absolutely stomp harder than the game expects you to it defaults to "close victory" as you've gone way above the heroic victory threshold and I'm guessing "close victory" is the fallback for when no other conditions can apply.
Close victory solely because the number of cannonballs fired ended up costing more in labor and resources than any amount of damage any amount of skavenslaves could have done in their lifetime.

The real horror of grapeshot. You run to within half of the canon's range then break and run away turning your backs forcing the retreating army to cover that same ground again. The only retreat is to finish the charge.

Legend the reason some of the cannons had more amo because they were the free ones given to malakai as a part of his quest line all the units through there have slightly boosted stats
Algorithm doesn’t seem to understand well. Before the zombie stack was nerfed for Ghorst, I fought battles with 0 casualties and it told me Pyrrhic victory. Sure I used some magic but not really that much.
The reason why you are seeing different stats from some of the cannons is due to there currently being a bug with the cannons you get from adventures being buffed differently from the rest of the normally recruited cannons. The adventure cannons get "Dig In!" buff that only flamecannons are supposed to get for some reason

IRL, grapeshot had an effective range of about 500-700 meters/yards. Although ranges vary by the size of the cannon. Larger cannons would have an increase in their effective range, smaller, the opposite

I was doing a coop campaign and I unlocked the Grapeshot for Canons, the first time we saw it fire and absolutely one shot Hoeth Swordmasters we both audibly gasped so hard my throat hurted the whole afternoon

The only armies I would consider being able to beat this is an army with a vast amount of fast units like war hounds or wolf riders and stalking units (legend touches on this). That is only if they manage to get to the cannons, terrain would be another thing to consider. But I genuinely feel on the campaign map there would be very few, if none, that would be able to take this on without over whelming numbers. Edit I would also think a large amount of fast flying units if they went straight at the flanks would possibly be a counter.
Most obvious counter would be scaven with menace below, gutter runners and assassins. Maybe steamtanks, since their frontal missle resistance is pretty impressive. Most one-sided counter would be Mother Ostankyas giving the cannons the Whiff of Madness(giving them rampage) debuff. This could also be a nice test for ironbreakers with Shieldwall of Gromril.
I'd imagine a large fast airforce can probably close the distance on the cannons. Sometimes, you can catch the Highelves with a full stack of phoenixes and dragons. However, if the AI gets distracted and attacks the engineers instead of charging the cannons, it's still an easy clap.
I find the dwarves as dwarf players that dwarves are not boring. Dwarves are rather defensive to play, and I really enjoy seeing how the enemy bounces wave after wave off the weaponised iron wall. Slow but stable as opposed to fast but fragile.

Legend, Napoleon features canister shot, not grape. Grapeshot is an intermediate shot type between roundshot and canister with longer range and fewer projectiles than canister. In terms of armies that could beat this, Chaos Dwarfs can get stalk on their flying monsters... and LoS can work pretty heavily against this build.
Best counter to this are probably unit spawning abilities like menace below, fireborn and ushabti. Won't kill your army ofc, but will disrupt and potentially get rid of single cannons.
I like giving my engineers gatekeeper's hammers since it applies frostbite to their bullets. Stacking the slow from that with flash bomb can basically bring an enemy unit down to almost 0 speed for 10+ seconds. Very fun when I did a thunderer/artillery only WH2 campaign
I think what really puts these over the top is the fact that Malakai can easily get the grapeshot upgrade online by turn 7-8, while having four units of cannons between his starting forces and the "free" adventure units.
The only thing that comes to mind in terms of counter is Cathay Cannons. They outrange the grapeshot and they seem to be more accurate than other cannons in their class. They have ways to speed up reload as well. Summons would also work - like I could see most Chaos factions just dumping a load of demons on them. You wouldn't be able to get all of them that way though.
The only thing that comes to mind to compete with this army is wargrove of woe. They can max out their total resistance to ranged attacks, use life magic and Drycha can summon her nasty dryads anywhere on the map several times if she has the skill for it. Warriors of chaos could also do some damage to the artillery if they used all four demon summoning army abilities from their tech + gifts and the fury summoning gift. Clan Eshin might also be able to stalk close to the artillery depending on the terrain (obviously wouldn't work in an underway battle).
Yeah grapeshot cannons are beautiful, I took out Zhaar Nagruund with a Full stack in it using nothing but 4 cannons and the spirit of grugni. it was glorious.
What can beat cannons doom stack (I’m going to assume that both sides are controlled by a player) -Pack master doom stack -leadership bomb doomstack (especially now that wood elves have unlimited heroes from Tamarkhan trait) -stalking flying wizard with 200% spell intensity (I believe an overcasted final transmutation destroy every cannons in range but I haven’t tried Gelt campaign yet) -Malus with sword of Khaine and Nemesis Crown (provided that he properly dodge the cannons shot) -units with stalk and snipe

The cannons having different ammo is because a few of them are from the Adventure, you get 3 and they are not entirely the same unit.

Khorne with a full army abilities and 3-5 cultists for summons maybe would have a shot. With a couple of bloodthirsters.
the fireborn summon for the chaos dwarves could wreck those cannons.
Yeah grapeshot cannons are beautiful, I took out Zhaar Nagruund with a Full stack in it using nothing but 4 cannons and the spirit of grugni. it was glorious.
Without a doubt the fastest killing Doomstack Ive seen.
Steamtanks should be able to stand up to this because of the 90% missile resist to the front of the tank. Just gotta keep head on.
What can beat cannons doom stack (I’m going to assume that both sides are controlled by a player)
-Pack master doom stack
-leadership bomb doomstack (especially now that wood elves have unlimited heroes from Tamarkhan trait)
-stalking flying wizard with 200% spell intensity (I believe an overcasted final transmutation destroy every cannons in range but I haven’t tried Gelt campaign yet)
-Malus with sword of Khaine and Nemesis Crown (provided that he properly dodge the cannons shot)
-units with stalk and snipe
-fast stalking cavalry with stalk

Reminded me of that Shogun 2 FOTS Armstrong Guns barrage on a single General Bodyguard unit you did a couple of months ago 😂.
